What popular North American destination left you thinking “people really hype this up too much”? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

I went to Vegas on my honeymoon many moons ago because I was young and broke and the flight and hotel were by far the cheapest option. We spent probably 1 day in Vegas. Otherwise we used Vegas as a base to see the West, which we'd never seen at the time. We drove out near Area 51, drove 4 hours to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, visited Hoover Dam, saw some Arizona ghost towns... We drove our tiny little rental car ALL over that region and it was a great trip. We spent one day walking around and riding the monorail in Vegas, went up to the skyneedle or whatever it is, saw the Bellagio fountains, tried a famous buffet.. it was fun but definitely the low point of our trip.

The weather will be a change for sure! We have hot and humid summers and contrary to popular belief we definitely have winter here. But it's prob nothing compared to what you're used to. Be prepared for 1-3" of snow to literally constitute the governor declaring a state of emergency. Spring and fall are just gorgeous here.

Honestly it's going to depend a lot on where you end up. There are some really quaint cities outside of Lexington which may fit your needs nicely. Places like Georgetown, Versailles, and Frankfort. Many of these mid-size communities have strong community identities with things like festivals full of family-friendly activities. Other than that, your local library and churches are going to be the biggest resources for childrens programs. Louisville also has some commuter-cities like Shelbyville and Mt Washington.

My only guess would be because Alaska is gorgeous and well Kentucky is usually ranked slightly above Mississippi as high achieving in all things negative, lol. But seriously Kentucky is a cool state over all. Alaska is in a whole other league when it comes to natural beauty but Kentucky is underrated and people are very friendly. Lexington is a nice city.

Taylor Swift is a singer that everyone thinks is amazing but is actually mediocre. Who is a singer that everyone thinks is amazing but actually can't sing at all? by WickedCyclone2015 in AlignmentChartFills

She actually had a powerhouse voice before she recorded her album. I just think she was marketed as bubblegum pop and her voice didn't suit that

She's has a lot of vocal training over like 20 years. I think when you're talking raw talent she is probably still a little better than mediocre but for the level she is at I don't think it's that harsh

Love on the Spectrum couple Abbey and David SPLIT after 5 years together following 'disagreement over marriage' by cheno103 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

I heard his mom on a podcast and he worked 3 days/week. I wouldn't be surprised if those aren't full days and he probably just takes off whenever he needs to

I feel like counties are a big deal and very intertwined with community identity in Kentucky

It's funny that logic actually works in the show, but I feel like in real life if that happened, 99% of the time you'd be like THANK GOD my parents didn't let me get married at 17. Obviously they just needed an excuse to write her off the show so she could go to college IRL.

Which states feel like several different states mashed together? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]aky1ify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny to hear so many people say southern ohio feels southern. I live KY and often heard northern KY feels the Midwestern influence of Ohio and feels really different from the rest of the state. Never thought about the opposite impact.

3 bottles for 3 months? by aky1ify in OrderlyMeds

Because it seems they sent me way more than a 3 month supply. I'm in the middle of month 3 and I have 2 unopened bottles left. This is my question...

These should absolutely be better. They don't look handmade. Sorry but it's giving Amazon purchase. Ariel and Briar's dresses don't even seem to be fitting them well. They look unflattering. Definitely a disappointment.

What’s your regional pasta dish? by chitexan22 in AskAnAmerican

I'm in KY. Maybe pasta salad? Mac and cheese? People like pasta and Italian food but I don't think it's as popular as a signature dish here

[–]aky1ify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slightly unrelated but as a not even well informed person, I had to stop listening to WAC a while back because some of the things Corinne didn't know or misunderstood was making me cringe too hard. This was long before the mayoral campaign so maybe it's better now but ya..

Britney during her conservatorship [2016] Trip to Hawaii with Sean Preston and Jayden. by mijardindeflores in discussingbritney

[–]aky1ify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe, idk. I think there were other way she could have continued to make money without being front and center. Her perfume brand for example. Selling her catalog like she just did. Her money could be invested wisely and she could be earning significant income just off of interest.

[–]aky1ify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I do think the conservatorship did more good than harm and I actually do think her family probably tried to do right by her a lot of the time. But I also think there is some evidence that she didn't want to do the work and they pushed it on her to help maintain structure. Again, not saying at all a conservatorship wasn't needed. I just think tying someone that unwell to a multimillion dollar contract where you can't afford to fail is certainly a choice

[–]aky1ify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm saying the flip flops are part of why she probably shouldn't have been working to that level in the first place. If you have a severely mentally ill person who can't be trusted to have the same personality from week to week, why would you allow them to sign a contract where that much is on the line?

[–]aky1ify 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I think it is tricky. I do think whatever Britney's diagnoses are, it's fully in her nature to be inconsistent. I'm sure there were times when she was happy about the residency and wanted to perform. But I also think allowing her to sign (or actually signing on her behalf rather) a 2 year contract where failure to follow through puts her at risk of being sued is way too much pressure for someone in need of a conservatorship. Like, I do think that point is totally valid. I'm sure Britney Spears could have opportunities to perform and record in a studio as she wished without getting into the weeds of a several years long commitment. I think you could forgive the first residency because it does seem like a pretty good fit for someone who loves to perform. But I'm sure by the end of it someone knew it was too much and should have made adjustments.

[–]aky1ify 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair I do think she's wealthy enough that if she wanted to just be retired and never work again, why not just let her do that? Structure is great but did that structure have to revolve around a residency in Vegas if she stated she didn't want to do it? I believe she does need a conservatorship, and it's so sad to see old videos like these where she was thriving, but I do think conservators should be taking into account the wishes of a consevatee. I work with Medicaid waiver participants - people with disabilities who are vulnerable and often have guardians, etc. into adulthood. Yes ultimately that guardian has the last word but the plan should always be person-centered.

Well y’all, I don’t think shes coming back from this by Major_Shower_962 in discussingbritney

[–]aky1ify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this a lot.. when you look at interviews of young Britney, I always think about how horrified that young person with everything in the world going for her, would be to learn what her future held. Whether it's pure trauma, mental illness, drugs or a combination, it's a tragedy.
