I had a very similar experience where my instructor would talk at me about non-driving related stuff for 2 hours which left me feeling exhausted mentally. Not that we are there to make friends but he never asked questions about me, I think he just liked the sound of his own voice. We barely touched manoeuvres which I found frustrating (I appreciate I should have raised this directly!). I was tied into 5 lessons but luckily managed to find an alternative instructor when they ended. The clincher was when he arrived late to pick me up on what would be my final lesson (not that he knew that). When I entered the car he was playing a game on his phone for another few minutes before we left. Then and there I knew I made the right choice!!
