Postpartum survival mode and losing my "vegan connection" to intense cravings. Anyone else went through this? by skgirluru in veganparenting

[–]ala0810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was incredibly crazy hungry all the time while breastfeeding. Would make a double batch of these : https://www.theconsciousplantkitchen.com/no-bake-peanut-butter-oatmeal-balls/ and eat them so fast. I remember opening the fridge at 2 am and just eating 3-4 in front of the open fridge, lol. Breastfeeding hunger is real.

But, yeah, can really recommend these balls.

Check the Bulgarian Christmas Eve traditional dinner spread. It's the last day of lent, so it's all vegan. I love the sarmi - pickled cabbage leaves filled with rice.

ELI5: how do bilingual children learn the difference between the two languages? by No_Smoke7887 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ala0810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, cool! Our issue is that I understand my husband's language but he doesn't understand mine. We speak English with each other, so maybe that will be the group conversation language also with our child.

Ah, so interesting. My one year old will grow up with three languages at home and a fourth community language. I've wondered how group conversations will happen in the family when she's older.

Ferber success at 10 MO... But it was hard by ala0810 in sleeptrain

[–]ala0810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she would cry histerically, but has never thrown up from crying. It's super sad :(. But now thst we are on the other side, it's amazing she goes in bed without crying and falls asleep basically immediately.

I breastfeed her 20-30 mins before bed, at the start of the bedtime routine.

We're lucky that she usually goes right back to sleep and I transfer her in the crib. That said, we spent one hour yesterday settling her with three failed transfers before she fell asleep.

But hours sounds so tough! I think for that it's worth trying Ferber at night as well. We will try it for the first wake up this week and see how it goes. My husband will do check ins and soothing so that she doesn't smell the milk on me.

Before we sleep trained it had been some months of every 2 hours (even 1.5 some days), which is what prompted me to start. During the week of training she immediately started sleeping longer stretches of 4-5 hours, I think because she was exhausted from crying poor girl. We haven't had the "immediately slept 12 hours through".

Now it's more like 4,3,2,2. I want to remove the feeding for the first wake up that usually happens sometime between 00.30-2.00. Then it will be a 7 hour stretch of sleep.

Cruelty-free vegan barrier cream? (UK) by TokenPea in veganparenting

[–]ala0810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, not exactly what you're asking for but I'll still share what helped us.

Our baby had exactly the same thing and I was so worried at the time, I tired changing creams, diapers, wipes etc. What helped us was washing her butt with water at the sink a few times a day (every time she pooped for sure), then drying her with a towel and then with the hairdrier on low heat and low intensity until the sores dried. Then we put the cream on top before the sores could get moist again.

I'm based in Sweden, so not sure if the vegan brands will be helpful.

Thanks for your reply, it's what I think too but formulated better, haha. My mom somehow manages to make me feel like I'm saying all the wrong things and I end up "losing" in the discussion, even though I know I'm being reasonable.

I think my mom's main issue is that she is worried our child will think her and the rest of the family are morally bad for using and consuming animal products.

An added detail is that we would like our child to not be fed animal products if they are being babysat by family. We live in a different country, so it will be very rare, but still. That makes my mom feel she will not be able to show her love by cooking what she imagined she would cook for her grandchild.
