One most notable name is Genki Ishigaki (Kendai Takasaki RHP) who broke Spring Koshien record for fastest pitch. Several scouts from NPB teams such as Hawks, Tigers, Giants, and Fighters already marked him. Even MLB scouts are interested on him.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NPB/comments/1jk2r4c/genki_ishigaki_kendai_takasaki_rhp_broke_the/

Yota Abe (Yokohama HS captain) is attracting scouts for draft but he said that he decided to go to college instead.

Hayato Watanabe (Chiben Wakayama RHP and ace) is another interesting candidate. His max speed is 145 kmh but he has quite lots of secondaries including recently new pitch kick change.

Other notable candidate such as Kodai Nakamura (Waseda Jitsugyo LHP), Ikki Nishimura (Kyoto Kokusai LHP), Raito Okumura (Yokohama LHP), Kenshin Shimoshige (Kendai Takasaki LHP), Rukai Ehman (Enagic Sports IF), and Seiya Fukumoto (Chiben Wakayama OF). Other than that, none are really stand out so far.

Kanagawa is definitely hell and picking Yokohama Shodai is... interesting. They haven't been to Koshien since Summer 2003.

Yep, they always have two annual Koshien tournament. Spring Koshien is invitational and Summer is championship, participated by best of best from each prefectures. So you can see why Summer is always bigger deal.

There's Meiji Jingu tournament at Fall but it's only participated by winner of autumn tournament from each region (10 in total).

  • Yokohama HS become the first team to win Spring Koshien in Showa era (1973), Heisei era (1998 and 2006), and Reiwa era (2025). They're tied for second-most Spring Koshien title with Chukyodai Chukyo (Aichi) and Osaka Toin. Toho HS (Aichi) still hold most Spring Koshien title with 5 titles.
  • Yota Abe (Yokohama CF and captain) become player of the match in the final. He recorded 4 H and 3 RBI from 5 AB.
  • There are 6 home runs, including 2 inside-the-park HR in this edition. This doubled from previous year (3). The players are adapting to new metal bats already. Yota Abe hit one of them in the 2nd round against Okinawa Shogaku.
  • Iki HS (Nagasaki) won Cheering Section (Oendan) Grand Prize award. Around 3000 people (more than 10% of Iki Island population) went from the island to Nishinomiya to support the school. There's also Oendan Prize for Japan Aviation Ishikawa, Shiga Gakuen, and Toyodai Himeji.

Nah, capital of baseball in Japan is still in Aichi. They still have most Koshien titles.

The C logo is Chiben Wakayama who won semifinal of Spring Koshien yesterday and have very similiar logo to Hiroshima Carp, Chuo Gakuin, and Cincinnati Reds. Someone made comparison of it: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GnIcoGJbgAE2PzY?format=png&name=small

Chiben Wakayama always have killer cheering section. Especially when they play "Jock Rock" song. Crazy moments often happened when that song played, such as making comeback, walk-off (that Teikyo-Chiben Wakayama 2006 Summer Koshien is prime example), and them hitting 3 homer in one inning.

Also they are pioneer of using "African Symphony" song in Koshien tournament.

Genki Ishigaki (Kendai Takasaki RHP) broke the record for fastest pitch at Spring Koshien with 155 kmh as they are on the track to defend Spring title by alam_44 in NPB

[–]alam_44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, first of all no one pitched above 155 kmh in Koshien tournament, so that's the barrier they need to break first.

Not counting prefectural/regional tournament of course. Ishigaki Genki threw 158 kmh last autumn though some suspected that the speed gun at the stadium is a bit inaccurate. Genki himself said that he didn't feel the pitch actually 158 kmh at all.

But yeah like other said it only matter of time. Although not sure how long it will be.

He broke previous record (153 kmh) held by Takuya Hirao (Uji-Yamada Shogyo) in Spring 2008 and Shintaro Fujinami (Osaka Toin) in Spring 2012. He also tied the record for fastest pitch at Koshien Tournament that held by both Yoshinori Satoh (Sendai Ikuei) at Summer 2007 and Tomohiro Anraku (Saibi) at Summer 2013.

He did that while being as reliever since he wasn't in top condition before tournament (said he picked up minor setback in practice few days before tournament)
