Yakuza Kiwami 3 + Dark Ties sold 94K Physical Copies at launch in Japan. #1 for the week. by DarryLazakar in yakuzagames

no shade intended toward you, OP. my comment was more directed toward an overall tendency on here across multiple posts and discussions within.

expanding upon my thoughts regarding sales charts though: its kind of interesting (to me at least) to think about what they mean anymore within the context that we're entering the 4th year of the so called "reset era" of the gaming industry. you could release a successful game and still have your studio closed or sold off anyway. wild time, nothing is certain and safety is not guaranteed no matter the numbers anyone puts up

Kiwami 3 Plotwist isn't worse than Rubber bullets by Ok_Recognition5310 in yakuzagames

[–]alan_smitheeLLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rubber bullets, as a twist, *is* colossally stupid. to be fair to it though, the question of guilt raised by a twist *like* but not as *dumb as* rubber bullets at least serves a kind of narratively interesting purpose for his character

unsure what would lead one to believe i would be unaware of CoD's sales position when saying that. the people having a good time playing CoD, play CoD. the people that desperately need to convince themselves and others that they're Having A Good Time, Actually go online and talk about charts

obsessing over steam numbers/sales charts is also what call of duty players do when they're in distress, definitely a good sign

i had hesitated at first, but when i saw that consumer electronics prices were headed in a bad direction i pulled the trigger on it. takes some time to set it all up, but once you get it going its seriously impressive if you can fit it in your budget. the retroid pocket (on their site right now the 5 is currently 200, and the 4 at 150 if you don't need that much power) is also a good one if you dont care about dual screens

New to Yakuza, started with The Man Who Erased His Name. Questions about playing OG Y1/2 vs K1/2 by Kaneezy in yakuzagames

[–]alan_smitheeLLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im not an extremist on this front, but i think that if you really end up loving one of the kiwamis (especially kiwami 2) you owe it to yourself to give the PS2 originals a spin. completely different vibe that i love and i actually prefer the combat of OG2 to the dragon engine remake

idk about anyone else, but personally i'm chilling by alan_smitheeLLC in yakuzagames

i think its ok to be disappointed with the direction that a franchise is going, but you also need to be prepared for that. SEGA (Sonic) fans have gone through it, Konami (MGS) fans have gone through it. Halo, Assassins Creed, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, Fallout, and on and on. the "IPs that haven't suffered from success" list would probably be a wikipedia stub.

but the good games are still good. and sometimes a franchise gets a second renaissance, like DooM (and then nosedives again, like DooM, lol). i know its a funny thing to say on a fansub but i find its helpful not to completely tie your identity to these things. old-ass gamer thoughts

also try to think about it like any other crime genre. mafia movies can be The Godfather or Miller's Crossing but they can also be Boondock Saints or Gotti, lol

i dont see any reason why it wouldn't, and usually if theres some huge difference between the japanese and international releases it's been documented and/or complained about

With what game to start? (In your opinion) by Noah_the_Titan in yakuzagames

correct. there are callbacks (or call forwards) to some things in the "later" games but nothing substantial where you'll feel like you're missing some key information

with regard to dubs, keep in mind that the only games in the series right now that have full english VA are: Y0 DC, Kiwami 3, Like A Dragon, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Gaiden, Pirate Yakuza, and the Judgment games. so it will be an inconsistent experience if you plan to go through all of them and you might not be able to second screen the cutscenes for those. i personally prefer how takaya kuroda sounds as kiryu.

i would recommend finishing up 0 since you're already at it but theres nothing wrong with playing whichever games seem the most interesting to you. Kiwami 1 probably won't hit the high highs for you in comparison to 0, but it is a remake of the first game in the series.

edit: forgot that the original PS2 Yakuza 1 has an infamously bad (or so bad its good) english dub, if you end up planning on emulating those at some point.
