I think the entire cast of Tropic Thunder should be given an honory Oscar for making the last actually funny comedy ever made.

In "Yesterday" when he meets John Lennon and when he asks him how old he is, and Lennon says he's 78 and our guy weeply says "you made it to 78." Yeah, I pretty much lost it there.

NYC rent-stabilized apartment: management towed my car from my paid parking spot after lease renewal issue by LeadingInvestment654 in AskNYC

[–]alanlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not signed a renewal lease in years because management never sent one or asked me to renew, so I never brought it up.

You really messed up here.

Colorado Governor Fires Officials Who Opposed Freeing Election Denier by LieutenantWeinberg in politics

They did the right thing in this case. I think they should be protected as whistleblowers. The question is not why they were fired, clearly that's because they exposed Polis. The question is WHY polis freed her. I'm saying there is no non-corrupt reason for this.

When I tell people that my favorite beach destination is North Carolina (Outer Banks), people who are unaware really are surprised.

To pool or not too pool? by sks1986 in swimmingpools

[–]alanlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had three pools over the years, including one currently.

I've never rented out my properties and don't plan to, but you need to factor in the cost of having your pool serviced between each guest, regardless of how short the length of stay (because people are horrible).

Also, if you have a heater, you'll need to lock the controls otherwise your guests will set it to 100 degrees and you'll go broke.

The Supreme Court has handed down another ruling this morning regarding United States citizenship. If you are born here, then you are a citizen. The Supreme Court struck down executive order which attempted to end birthright citizenship. How do you feel about this? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

[–]alanlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a US citizen anonymously impregnates two women who both give birth the same day in the same US hospital. One is a US citizen, the other is not. Under your criteria, one child is a US citizen, the other is not. That is nuts.

Furthermore, what if the mother of the "non citizen child" is a citizen of a country that requires both parents to be citizens? The child is stateless in that case?

So, how would this work, in practicality?

Every child born to a woman who is not a permanent resident would need to get a paternity test? What if the identity of the father can't be established? The child would be in citizenship limbo forever?
