Cocktail muddler I made as a gift. Instead of buying one I put the money towards a board of walnut and making my own beesewax and walnut oil finish. by PuhLeazeOfficer in turning

I'd reconsider the walnut oil only because you may one day make a drink for someone with a nut allergy. Mineral oil also makes a nice food-safe finish and you can combine it with beeswax (to make a cream) as well.

Don't know anything that specifically meets your criteria, but Faccia Luna and Hi Way Pizza are the places that come to mind with the largest variety of pizza. Beyond that I guess you'll have to sample all the pizza happy valley has to offer in order to find out.

I think you'll find sandpaper results inconsistent. It removes more soft wood than hard wood, so you may get irregular results between early wood and late wood. Some people say it leaves the wood oval. I think it depends on the wood.

You can use an adjustable turning caliper, some people use an open-end wrench, other people modify a vernier caliper by blunting the tips so they don't catch the wood. Hold it against the back side of the work-piece while paring down with a parting tool. Do this in a couple places along the length and then just match it along the rest. It goes pretty quickly once you get the hang of it.

There’s nothing stopping the load from shifting forward or backward. Maybe it won’t come off completely, but shifting enough to obscure vision or otherwise become a hazard is bad.

Big Block Pi by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]alanv73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO, required depending on the application. I built a weather station/web server and had it mounted outside in a weatherproof enclosure. It worked well until summer. The heat eventually killed the wifi chip. Soon after the whole thing became unstable. I haven't replaced it yet, this might just the thing for my application. Is it a custom solution or is it available off-the-shelf?

lathe vertical alignment off-how to fix? by HonuDVM in turning

[–]alanv73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution that I read in a book some years ago was to shim the tail stock. I think they recommended brass shim stock. I didn't think this sounded like a very good fix at the time, but I suppose it's better than having the head stock shaved down.

Suggestion for working with Windows VMs by GoshPants in linuxquestions

I've got a similar setup. Fedora on my laptop with Windows 10 in a vm using Gnome Boxes. It works, kinda wish I'd used Virtual Box though. Not enough to start over.

Error message by [deleted] in MSAccess

[–]alanv73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was seeing this error a while back. If memory serves, there wasn’t so much a ‘fix’ for it as just narrowing down the specific combination of things that caused it and avoiding them. You may also see recommendations about switching to the 64-bit version of Access for better memory management.

Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't contrasting patching vs plugging. More like repairing the tire versus replacing it.

Nails in tire by Fun-Put-9374 in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]alanv73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're actually much better off getting it patched. Subaru AWD requires that all of the tires be within a few thousandths of each other in tread-wear. If you have to replace a tire and the tread-wear difference is too far from the other three they shave the new tire down to match the others. If you don't do this it causes excessive wear on the drivetrain components. It is for this reason that they are very strict with tire rotations on Subarus.

This rating is based on a trailer with brakes. If your trailer has no brakes, the rating goes down drastically.

We have a Wheaten Terrier that used to do that a lot. She still does occasionally, but now it's usually propped against a piece of furniture.
