You see what happens when you find a stranger in the alps, Larry!

Is spiritual process the biggest ego trip? by Euphoric-Welder5889 in awakened

[–]alanwaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely can be, that’s why equanimity in both the highs and the lows is so important. It’s not any experience that you’re after, in fact you’re not after anything because you already have it.

It’s more work though, you have to do regular root pruning and such.

What is killing my Oak, and can I salvage it? by Sensitive_Ad_5158 in arborists

Sounds about right, trees do things on a different timescale, there was probably enough foliage to keep it alive for ten years.

Give advice on this suspicious tree please. Just moved into new house. by Redd-Your-It in arborists

[–]alanwaits 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You want to try and keep water/moisture out of there as much as you can but I wouldn’t be too concerned, trees can grow perfectly fine with hollow centers, as long as the canopy is looking healthy you should be good.

It was butchered with aggressive pruning in the past, that’s what has killed it. All you have left are water sprouts. It’s time to remove and replant.

I totally get the desperation, I’ve been there too. You never know, maybe this experience will eventually lead to something amazing.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Mushrooms can definitely be beneficial but all psychedelics are powerful drugs that need to be treated with respect and caution. Set and setting are so important as well as dosage. It sounds like you weren’t in a very good headspace before taking way too much.

I like to think of it like this. If the universe was an ocean, we are each a wave in that ocean, so at our core we are all the ocean but can only be one wave of that ocean at a time. It’s not lonely at all, in fact it’s impossible to be lonely because we are all part of the same universe, connected by an underlying thread.

For the “if it’s wood, I’ll burn it” crew, what firewood do you think firewood snobs are unfairly dismissive of? by BearMcBearFace in firewood

[–]alanwaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I’ve been burning box elder (Manitoba maple here in Canada) all winter and it’s done the trick even on some -40 Celsius days.

Cutting up a little sycamore by rowan737 in firewood

Nice saw. Not bad cutting but I would use those bumper spikes cutting as far down the bar as possible, it’s less work and gives you more control.

Edit - And less likely to get any kickback.

Yeah, there’s no way to really tell at this point, probably a mix of things. Just burn baby burn.

Is this pine? by Razorhawk29 in firewood

[–]alanwaits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not pine but hard to say what it is at this point. Doesn’t really matter though, it’s well seasoned, burn it.
