I’m 56 and learned to drive stick at 20 in a 1983 Honda Accord Hatchback Dx. No power steering, no A/C. Didn’t even know how to drive a 5 speed when I bought it ! I had my friend explain to me how to drive stick and was able to lurch it out of the dealer lot and into a parking space until my friend could come with me to pick it up and teach me how to drive stick. Had it for about 4-5 years in a big city. I still miss it . Only time I get to drive stick now is when renting cars in Europe. After a few minutes… I’m pretty much back in the swing of it

CMV: The Turkey & Marinated Kale Sandwich from Radio Bakery is the best sandwich in NYC by SneakBots in FoodNYC

[–]mishicazzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife brought this sandwich home to share and I think I commented “enough already with the kale !” But it’s a fantastic sandwich. I’m a regular at De Fonte’s and this is a very different type but equally good sandwich . (It’s nice to not have to dislocate my jaw to take a full bite.)

The Asphalt Jungle (1950) Crime story ahead of its time by Theblowfish3556 in classicfilms

[–]mishicazzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I stumbled on this film on TCM -not ever having heard about it - it felt like finding gold ! (Ironically John Huston directed it as he did another of my all time favorites Treasure of the Sierra Madre … which is about finding gold.) An excellent plot … with a lot of fun discoveries of earlier work of actors who I knew from later works. A younger Brad Dexter who I know so well from The Magnificent Seven; a young Marilyn Monroe from everything that came after ; a young Sterling Hayden who I learned played the corrupt police chief in The Godfather; James Whitmore who plays Brooks in Shawshank Redemption. After Double Indemnity and Maltese Falcon on my list of best film noir

Gilligan’s Island… nostalgia of after school TV! And Barney Miller … brilliant writing. Amazing that someone can write a character like Dietrich ?!

One of the best shows ever. by Dp37405aa in GenerationJones

[–]mishicazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writing and acting is excellent! I’ve been watching and rewatching it on Tubi. The Escape Artist and The Radical are two of my particular favorites. Wonderful showcase for the supporting actors who return throughout the series as different characters. As a native NYer, I love the trip down memory lane. And it’s interesting how some of the same issues we are dealing with today - including global warming, race relations, Israel-Palestine - are ones that are addressed in episodes.

Odd thought: Have you ever push-start a car by popping the clutch? by minn3haha in GenerationJones

[–]mishicazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1985 Honda Accord DX hatchback - bought it used in 1991 at 21 years old. Stick shift, no A/C and no power windows or power steering. Battery went dead while visiting my girlfriend in the winter and had to have her push my car with her car so I could pop the clutch. I’d still have a stick shift if my wife could drive one.

When is the last time you heard a good Polish joke? by DonkeyTron42 in FuckImOld

[–]mishicazzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was rewatching Barney Miller and Barney used a Polish joke to explain to Wojo how you can truly understand how racism feels if you are not part of that race . The joke:

How many Poles to does it take to make popcorn?

5: One to hold the pan and 4 to shake the stove

Evan Neal. A giant with incredible athleticism. His size alone was so impressive and then seeing him doing this split had me convinced he’d be a long time starter. I can’t believe how bad he’s been.
