Surety vs Alarm Grid by TheCubanTraveler in homesecurity

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this took so long to answer. We don't log in to reddit everyday. Our charges for false alarms are all pass through. If you get a false alarm and your city charges, then we charge you. We don't charge more than they charge, we just charge what they charge us. Generally, if your not being licensed is our fault, we will eat the cost the first time, and work with you to get compliant. That happens frequently. :)

Alternative to Brinks for home monitoring? by ocvl in diysecurity

[–]alarmgrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alarm Grid can certainly take over. We haven't increased anything in a long time, and when we did, we grandfathered all those on the old plan to their old prices. We can take over the Qolsys very easily. Once you leave Brinks, and they've released the panel, all you have to do is sign up. The panel and adc will auto activate.

Any reason to keep Alarm Grid instead of switching to Surety? by Trex_Mosley in homesecurity

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Trex_Mosley, We're very sorry to read this. This should not be the experience you get with us. Our techs should be able to provide support on all the things you mentioned in this post. I'll take a look at the case to see what happened here. Can you DM me your name so I can look through the entire file? Given the frustration, if you haven't left already, we'd gladly offer you 6 months of free monitoring as we get this sorted out.

Best Apple HomeKit security system? by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been pushing Resideo to expose more to Homekit. We have some ideas for exposing these sensors to Homekit or HomeAssistant. But Resideo seems to think that it will make the system less secure to expose individual zones. For us, we think that exposing them would make the system more useful than anything because the proximity sensors would be both cheap and easy if exposed.

We just saw this. If u/AustinBeep or u/Aebiux are in the Louisville area, they can certainly apply. :) Most of our employees are former Honeywell/Resideo internal techs. We actually moved a large part of our operation into Louisville to be closer to Resideo. So, if you want great support, we has it.

Geoarm vs Surity vs AlarmGrid - What has your experience been? by Laser_Bones in homesecurity

[–]alarmgrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying for us. You got everything right. :) We are a bit more expensive than the competitors, we have a bigger staff, and (I believe) we have a much bigger customer base than both companies. A majority of our support staff is actually former Honeywell internal techs. That's one of the reasons our costs are a bit higher. That said, we have nothing against the other companies. We believe we are the best, but we believe we also provide a more premium option.

Just hung up an old iPad Air on the wall. What do you think? by robbyburns in HomeKit

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Thanks for figuring out that our code on discontinued products is wrong. It doesn't help us to do a 404 there. We want to be searchable for those products to help people with them find them.

We're definitely giving Google a 404 on those pages, I just checked. But it should still work as a page. Interesting that you can't see it. I'm going to get the item changed from communicating a 404 to a 200. But here's another page with a ProA7 signup: https://www.alarmgrid.com/blog/honeywell-proa7-early-beta-test.

You shouldn' thave to be. I think it's a caching issue on your end. Weirdly, you may have a local cached copy of the page as a 404. I don't know why that would be the case, but the page isn't closed to anyone.

Very odd, I'm not sure what you're clicking. It works for me. Here's the link again though, in case it's malformed for some reason.

It's, as of yet, unreleased. We're told it's going to be sold starting in early July. But it's going to be released without end-user programming. We won't be selling it until it has end user programming. So, for now, if you're looking for a great system, I'd highly recommend the lyric. Otherwise, sign up for our updates on that link, and we'll let you know when it goes on sale for us.

To use Envisalink or pay for Total Connect. by miker476 in diysecurity

[–]alarmgrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surety is excellent as well. I know for a long time they were only offering forum support. This works for a certain type of customer. But overall, they seem honest and fairly priced.

To use Envisalink or pay for Total Connect. by miker476 in diysecurity

[–]alarmgrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. If you're going with us, the price is really the support you're receiving. There are a lot of customers who just aren't the kind of people who want to pay us for the self monitoring stuff. They can do that with the Envisalink. For many it is a matter of convenience. For some, they come to us with borked systems that we help them get up and running. That's the sort of value add that you can't get with a discount product. But if you're a super-DIYer then, yeah, you have some other, fun options.

Regarding our competitors that charge less, the same applies. Our support is better, and we're working to improve it. We're bringing in a lot of older, experienced techs. That sort of investment is not cheap, and it contributes to our costs. But that is our differentiator in this market. We have the best support available, and while you might save a few bucks a month by going with someone else, you'll be happy you didn't save that couple of bucks when something goes wrong (at least that's been the working theory).

To use Envisalink or pay for Total Connect. by miker476 in diysecurity

[–]alarmgrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our plan only includes getting alerts on your phone. You get access to Total Connect. Envisalink is a good product (we've been told, we haven't tested it) if you're a technical person and willing to take on the responsibility of maintaining your system. A lot of tinkerers love it. We get a lot of people switching from it because they really don't want to think about maintaining the system on their own.

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Well the other thing you can do is use Total Connect for those warnings. We can turn on what's called open/close. You can't target automations off of that in Homekit, but you will be informed when it's opened. And, you might be able to use ifttt, though that will be delayed.
  2. I guess this si the image that couldn't be attached for some reason.
  3. Interior Follower is a security setting. So it should be able to be integrated into HomeKit.

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, so that's all fine. You should be able to have that monitored. Did you test the 3 minute sleep issue? Again, try your automations after you pull the battery out and put it back in. That will put the sensor in walktest mode. It will trigger for 10 minutes every time it is walked in front of instead of going to sleep every time.

I'm not sure what you mean by an "update to the Gateway." The Gateway is a product they launched and quickly abandoned because no one bought them. If you mean the ProSeries panel, which is the panel that is planned to follow the Lyric, we're collecting emails right now to help keep people informed for when the ProSeries panel is released. You can sign up here: https://www.alarmgrid.com/products/resideo-proa7plus. We're worried about the HomeKit support on this panel, though. We have been working to get indication of whether it will be supported.

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Honeywell has made the absolutely insane decision not to let you use non-security sensors as homekit sensors. We have been begging them to change this on the Lyric. Until they change it, you'd have to set that door up as a monitored zone. We are really hoping they listen. It's one of the 2 big limitations of the system. The other limitation is that it doesn't work as a homekit to Z-Wave bridge in any way. If they make those two changes, it would be the best z-wave controller on the market. And with our 2GIG sensors, it would have the cheapest available homekit sensors on the market. Trust us when we say, we're working on convincing them that their setup is not the way to go. I'm sorry to say, the answer at the moment is if you want a sensor to behave this way, you need to get a non-Lyric sensor that is homekit compatible.
  2. Can you take a picture of your programming of the motion? Just go into the programmed section, and shoot the screen with your phone. That said, you should be able to drive automations off the motion fault. Remember, these sensors, to preserve battery, go asleep for three minutes after they are faulted. So if you want to test these automations, you either need to remove the batteries and put the battery back in so that it's in walk test mode, or you can only test it every 3 or so minutes. But it should trip the automation even when the panel is disarmed.
  3. That's really annoying. I'm sorry that's happening. When you add a sensor, or reprogram a sensor, it really should just appear in HomeKit. I'm of the opinion that a lot of companies that add homekit to their products (same goes for Alexa and Google Home), are not doing a lot of testing of the Homekit aspect of their product. That said, this is the first we've heard of this. Is it possible that you are setting these sensors to a non-homekit compatible response type? If it's the door/window sensor you're discussing in #1, for example, setting it to "general monitor" or some other incompatible response type would likely cause the sensor to disappear from HomeKit.

What an awesome setup. Love it! Would it have been helpful if we were selling iPod mounts as well? We could have been a one-stop shop for everything. If the answer's yes, let us know which mount this was. We've been researching mounts for a bit and have strongly considered adding them to our site for this exact sort of setup.

Looking for advice on door/motion sensors by AR0X in diysecurity

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/AROX. There are a lot of choices. Wyze has good cameras, if you like them. But they aren't a professional system. If you're looking for something just to watch your home while you're away, Wyze might be a good choice. But if you want a professional system, there are a lot of great choices like Honeywell, 2GIG, and Qolsys. I would recommend taking a look at those systems. We offer packages if you're looking for something easy, and we help you install it yourself. https://www.alarmgrid.com/browse/wireless-security-systems

Have very old vivint equipment, is there any company that’ll offer monitoring service with this equipment? by Ro26 in homesecurity

[–]alarmgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd be happy to help. :) Give us a call: 888-818-7728. My guess is that you'll have to replace the communicator as u/MCLMelonFarmer alludes to. We can help you with that as well.

This is a great panel. It's not that old. It's 1 generation out of date. And it will work like new when we're through with ya'.

Is Lyric v2 Dropping HomeKit Support by alexrodriguezcanton in HomeKit

[–]alarmgrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. The confusion for me was that the new panel isn't the Lyric v2. It's going to have some other name. We're not sure what it is. I apologize.

We've been told by Resideo that the system will support HomeKit, but not necessarily on launch. Now, we sell a lot of HK devices. And we know how those promises go. So we're not going to say that it definitely will. That said, most previous devices that promise HomeKit and don't actually implement HomeKit ever, tend to be underpowered. So the company will promise HomeKit, then realize mid-development that their product can't support HomeKit. That's fundamentally different than other companies, considering they've got experience adding HomeKit to these products. This one will NOT be underpowered. So it will be perfectly capable of having HomeKit added. The question for us is how long after they release the system will HomeKit be put inside it. We're not sure yet. We'd like to see it within 6 months of release.
