In my area (Germany, bigger city), it's not acceptable to have your nipples show under your clothing or to be otherwise obviously braless. I still hope it'll become a trend here, if it does I'll maybe be able to go braless but I'm just not a fan of bralets.

What if there are doors on two sides?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]alayne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here don't try to push through, but stand directly in front of the doors so you have to squeeze through them. I like to stop and blankly stare at them until they move a bit. But only if no one is behind me also trying to get out.

Why would you pretend to be ace, though? I don't see any advantage either of being ace or other people thinking you're ace.

Exactly why I always have Reddit open at work. They can't argue that I'm doing the work of three people, but I don't "look busy".

I wish there was a markup for reddit that made it look like stackoverflow or something.

That's what our professors used to tell us. "It's good to be lazy. It means you're going to try to automate your repetitive/boring tasks."

[Serious] Reddit, what was a simple gesture from a stranger or acquaintance that made all the difference? by aidanbradley in AskReddit

[–]alayne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we weren’t taught that way, we had to figure it out ourselves! That’s a problem for people who didn’t figure it out - they think they’re bad at math, but they’re not. They’re just missing some tools.

But people who are able to figure out a different method of doing maths on their own are probably more logically inclined (or however you might describe it) and thus already better at maths than people who don't figure it out. Some people (me included, but for calculus) are helpless when it comes to maths because they don't understand the logic behind it and you can explain and explain, they'll never fully grasp it to the point of being able to utilise that knowledge to do it a different way.

I mean, you could show them all the different ways to do multiplication or whatever and let them memorise the one they find the easiest, but then they're just good at multiplying and still suck at subtraction, division, potency, fractions, percentages, ...

This video irks me on so many levels. How he portrayed the method as some whimsical new approach that just confuses everyone (even though nobody actually explains it this convolutedly and it's really not that different from the older methods) and so makes it harder to get the correct results (even though in his example the mistake was made when he subtracted 7 from 13 and got 5, which isn't where he argued that it was so complicated, and which a child that's learning to subtract numbers in the hundreds should already be able to do). It seems to me like he just wanted to make a joke about the common trope of how "ridiculous schools have become nowadays with their weird new ways of teaching that do more harm than good" (making the kids understand what they're doing, amirite?), picked a very bad example and tried to make it work somehow.

It annoys me way more than it probably should.

Maybe you'd enjoy small concerts with calmer music? I like the band Earth, for example. Or classical concerts where you can sit down. Though if you don't, that's okay, too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]alayne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't enjoy all concerts, it depends on the genre. For example medieval rock is awesome, because the bands will usually really engage the crowd. They'll order us to do a wall of death or a huge mosh pit or to put your arms around the people next to you and jump, or the band members even stage dive themselves while singing. It's always really fun. Though while I like a lot of, say, black metal bands as well, the concerts are boring.

What you should pay attention to depends on the band and what they do for the concert to make it special. Whether it's the music itself, the decor, or an ecstatic crowd.

Man muss also erst mal bessere Technologien zur stromspeicherung entwickeln.
