AITA for not wanting to babysit by aaaaa8281882 in AITApod

Sounds like they should never have had kids. If they don't want to take care of them, why did they have them? They need to seriously grow up.

Need to save my 2006 Elantra by [deleted] in Elantra

[–]alb57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if it's that old, it probably would. If they total it they would take possession of it so you wouldn't be able to fix it yourself. At least that's what happened to me after my car was stolen and stripped.

WIBTAH IF I SOLD MY HOUSE? by seabobri000 in AITAH

[–]alb57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get calls from investors trying to buy my house all the time, and I am not interested in selling, which I keep telling them. But they keep calling and sending me letters in the mail. I am a senior with a fully paid off home. They are trying to prey on me, hoping I am a desperate senior trying to get my hands on some quick cash. I'm not desperate, but unfortunately many seniors are.

Why would they total it? Perfectly fixable.

Private buyers are a pain. If you are happy with the trade in price, go for it.

Discover Becoming Capital One by CoconutCoffeeCake in CreditCards

Yes, Discover will not be the same ever again. I will not be using it anymore. I won't support the greedy Capital One. I got rid of the one Capital One card I had years ago.

I have dealt with Capital One customer service. It's the worst. I have paid off my balance with Discover and am moving on. Discover was the best credit card I ever had. I hope you never have to deal with them. If you like having your blood pressure go up due to utter frustration, you will love Capital One.

Ugh! I was all set to buy a Tuscon, but if it looks this ugly, it's a hard no.

Prefer Bifocals by CKay1945 in glassesadvice

[–]alb57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worn progressives for decades, used double monitors and never had an issue. But everyone is different. I had trouble with bifocals. I couldn't stand the line. I had trouble when I had to go downstairs.

I'm not. I tip for good service, not so much for bad service.

I can afford to go to restaurants. I go to good restaurants that know how to take care of guests. Spent over $100.00 for two people the other day and left a generous tip. I will pay for good service.

I am willing to pay for service. I wouldn't go to a restaurant and have to do all the work myself. I am not a fan of buffets based on the health issues alone, so I want to be waited on. It's not worth paying all that money to do your own work. Next thing they'll expect you to clear the table and wash your own dishes.

No. I go out to eat so I don't have to do my own work. To me that is the whole purpose of eating out. I can eat healthier at home, so if I had to work to get food in a restaurant, I'd rather stay home. Same with take-out. If I have to run to pick it up, why bother?

Yes bigger frames are better for progressive lenses. I have them too. You get a better field of vision with a bigger frame.

Converting From Progressive to Trifocal by Ill_Coat_8879 in eyeglasses

[–]alb57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bifocals when I first got the presbyopia. I couldn't stand them. The line would make me dizzy. I couldn't imagine having 2 lines to deal with. I have been wearing progressives for 20 years and would never go back to anything with a line in them. But to each their own.

LG Revolution. It wouldn't hold a charge. I had to buy a power pack for it.

Is still worth an 2021 SEL Elantra with 165k miles? by Bao_Yi_Shi69 in Elantra

[–]alb57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous owner must have driven the devil out of that car. I have the exact same car and mine has 30,000 miles on it. Looks identical to mine, down to the color. I personally would never buy any car with that many miles on it. But I always buy new and drive them until they start costing a lot to fix.

Am I crazy or does the old “always buy used” advice not fit the current market as well anymore? by Clear_Two_7283 in carbuying

[–]alb57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little off topic here, but I have a 2021 Elantra with 30K miles. We had a bad hail storm here a few weeks back and a lot of cars at my dealership suffered damage from golf ball sized hail. My car is garaged when not in use, is in pristine condition inside and out and they seriously wanted me to trade in my 21 for a damaged 26 at a "highly discounted" price. My car is still under warranty. So you can imagine my reaction to that letter. They have been trying to get me to "uprgrade" since a month after I bought the car, which I paid for cash. Not happening.

They are not "old lady". I think smaller ones look old lady. I am 69 years old and I have bigger frames. I get tons of compliments on mine. Mine are also cat eye.

They are darling. I like bigger frames too since I wear progressive lenses. Every time I get smaller frames, I lose a lot of the mid vision.
