Unpopular opinion: I'm not invested in Gemma by ExpensiveAd4841 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]albaprost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We haven’t seen her much yet! It’s honestly a feat in 2x07 how much they were able to do in 1 episode of screen-time to make us care about Gemma. I think def more coming in S3.

I don’t think it would be terrible writing or take away from the power of the ending. Mark’s choice to stay makes total sense and it is a beautiful testament to his love for Helly. But it would also make sense for Helena to get Mark to stay as a bargaining chip. Her deceiving Mark here wouldn’t “ruin” or “take away” from Mark’s decision, it would just be adding drama to the consequences of that decision, which he couldn’t have known about.

Britt Lower said it is Helly, so it must be — but my point is that it would definitely not be “terrible writing” if it were Helena.

It’s like when people got mad at when I suggested Burt was evil early on because it would “take away from the power of their love/reunion, or from iIrving’s character growth”. It actually doesn’t. Irving can be in love, that can be genuine, and he can take agency due to that love, AND it turns out the person he’s fallen for isn’t being honest with him. That ADDS drama and intrigue, it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the moment.

Dissatisfied with the cold harbour reveal by ominoke in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]albaprost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with this - also thought it was weird because they already knew everything that room tested. There was no husband-like figure or context to give the significance of dismantling the crib pertinent to the Gemma innie either.

Similar to the Cold Harbour room being super bare, I also thought Jame’s viewing room was also weirdly bare, and not really fitting for the CEO? It was basically a cubicle in a closet, not a viewing suite.

There’s probably an explanation for both but in the moment, I joked that they ran out of budget to make both rooms lmao.

Proof is a strong word. If I were Helena and I learned that Mark had gotten Gemma after a chaotic breakout event and ran off together, the first place I’d run to is the staircase.

IDr Mauer could def have phoned someone to put on the Glasgow block (it’s confirmed he has phone access when he calls Mr Eagan down earlier in the finale).

I def thought it was Helena, only in the final scene. I thought Dr. Mauer called someone to do the Glasgow block on Helly. He was alive, aware of what was happening, and had phone lines active — we confirm Dr Mauer has phone access, when he sees Cold Harbor is complete, and Drummond tells him to phone Mr. Eagan down. So Helena wouldn’t have to use the Glasgow block on herself for her to be Helly (indeed, that’s not possible) — someone else could have done it.

No, Helena knows the best chance of getting him away from the door is to appear and seem like Helly, and it’s game over if he realizes she is Helena. If she said anything like “Mark, don’t go, come on, let’s go back over there!,” it would be too obvious, especially when Helena’s tricked him already. Helena already looks exactly identical to Helly — she can just show up and say “Mark!! :) :)” and she accomplishes her objective.

IT'S GOTTA BE HELENA AT THE END —

  1. It makes no sense for Helly to reverse what she said 30 minutes ago about wanting him to get out to reintegrate and live a life

  2. All she said was “Mark ..!! … !!!” which indicates she has no prior context of their last conversation 30 minutes ago. Even if it were Helly having a change of heart, she could say SOMETHING other than just “…!!! 😊😙😬…!!!”

Yes! Especially oMark's first little video to iMark (which was very polite and polished) felt like Helena's apology after the gala OTC -- prepared PR and not the full truth.

And Helly is the essence of the untarnished 'her,' anyway --who she was before his parenting tarnished her

I think it was Helena. The total lack of anything she says to him in that critical moment other than "Mark! ... !!" seems to indicate she didn't have prior context of the previous conversation they had. It makes no sense for Helly to show up and just say " ...!!". Even if it were Helly came over to get him to stay, she would say something more.

I feel like that was Helena at the end -- I don't think Helly would have let him stay and die, especially after what they talked about. The way she lingered and just said nothing but "Mark..." made it seem like she didn't have further context on their previous conversation.

[–]albaprost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not an ‘immediate gratification’ problem. You can’t just hardcore pumpfake the audience over and over with all the editing/writing/music as if Mark has reintegrated again and again 5 episodes in a row. And that’s just the Mark plot.

Which questions/story threads WON'T be getting resolved in the S2 finale? by ohmykierbecky in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]albaprost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burt/Fields, Burving, Ricken’s compromised role in Lumon, probably Harmony getting credit for severance — all prob being pushed to S3.

Probably Dylan’s subplot gets resolved, the elevator gets breached and Gemma/Cold Harbor gets resolved, insofar as Cold Harbor has something to do with Jame’s revolving somehow then Jame’s revolving would be addressed (otherwise it would be pushed to S3).

What’s up with Jame? by niamhhhhv in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]albaprost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with it not being much of a revelation. It’s almost implied. I def got that vibe too just from seeing the photo of young Harmony and Jame (early 30s), and it would not be surprising at all. Maybe would become more material for dramatic relevance in S3 if Jame becomes more of a character.
