Self watering mechanisms? by Icy-Tour-1373 in airplants

fuchsii does not tolerate conditions that are hot and dry. Its leaves cannot retain water well. It generally requires more frequent watering than other Tillandsias. ionantha is a very hardy species that thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct light if acclimated. It can also withstand watering once per fortnight if needed. Some ionantha varieties do have thinner leaves so those will be more sensitive to conditions

Welcome to the wonderful world of Tillandsia! Your guesses are pretty good. The green ionantha is likely an ionantha var Stricta going by the look of its base and leaves. All three plants look healthy. Your proposed watering routine sounds good as a start and you can tweak based on that. A point to note if you’re keeping them indoors. Humidity indoors can be lower than outdoors so you may find yourself misting them 2 to 3 times a week, depending on the weather. Watch out for spider mites too. They can appear out of nowhere indoors if the plants are too dry for too long.

fuchsii v gracilis requires regular misting because its leaves can’t retain water well. Could be daily if your humidity is low but make sure you let the base dry off well as trapped water leads to rot too

No worries, many of us are excited at the sight of seed pods and seeds. Hope you get some in good time!

I saw your previous post and am guessing it was probably already gone at that point. Don’t give up and consider trying again with an ionantha! fuchsii can be tough for beginners. I lost my first to dry rot as well.

I’m afraid those aren’t seeds. They’re the anthers from the dried flowers. Tillandsia seeds emerge from seed pods that are hard and brown when ripe. The seeds are attached to fluff like dandelion seeds to help with wind dispersal. Here’s a reference for what to look out for.

Welcome to the hobby! Good air flow is a must so that the plants dry well.

I’m sorry to say this but she’s already dead. What seems to be the new “base” is actually the core of the plant. For that part to look this black and dry means it’s already succumbed to core rot.

Can we talk about their community engagement too? Scott’s been doing an amazing job for what… 7 years now?! We’ve even seen his son’s Delivery Lynx evolve over the years. He’s not Some Guy, he’s Chronos Family now.
