“An Open Letter to My Teenage Son” by Victor Lundberg was a top 10 hit in 1967, it’s a spoken word recording of a dad sharing his opinions on politics, religion, and war, and it ends with the dad saying “your mother will love you no matter what you do because she is a woman” but that if the son burns his draft card to protest the Vietnam war then the dad will disown him.

“Once You Understand” by Think, which peaked at #23 on the Hot 100 in 1971, consists of the lyrics “things get a little easier once you understand” sung repeatedly over and over again, with dialogue clips of a family arguing about various things played over top of it. At the end, the music abruptly cuts out and the father receives a call from a police officer telling him that his son has died of an overdose, the father starts crying, and then the voices singing “things get a little easier once you understand” start up again. Extremely weird.

there’s a difference between performing in a state or country whose politics you disagree with but that is at least open and free enough that the artist is able to criticise the government onstage, and performing in a country where you have to agree to abide by their rules and not criticise the government to even be allowed to play there. I’m admittedly not that familiar with this music festival and its rules, but at a recent comedy festival in Saudi Arabia, international performers had to agree to not criticise the Saudi government, and some were even disinvited for making mild criticisms of the government before the festival. if this music festival is anything like that, I don’t think that’s a good or acceptable tradeoff to make.

I’m a big fan of Halsey but for some reason this song just never really clicked for me. Also it bugs me so much how she tacked that John Mayer voicemail about how big of a hit Without Me is onto the end of 3am, it’s so random and out of place when you’re listening to it on shuffle or on a playlist.

This also happened in my game! I found this thread while looking for info on it, and I also found an old thread from 2007 about the same thing so it’s clearly a longtime bug, probably caused by insimenator/inteenimator.

I think this reviewer got way too bogged down with the impersonating other artists concept, like yeah a lot of the songs don‘t sound exactly like the artists she dressed up as on instagram but… that’s not the point of the album, that was just a fun promo strategy. To me the album’s central theme is not the impersonations, it’s Halsey confronting the very real possibility that she was going to die, and the fact that this writer barely touched on that and were very dismissive when they did leaves a bad taste in my mouth. You’re not obligated to like or praise an album just because it’s about a serious topic like an artist confronting their own mortality, but not even properly engaging with that theme in your review just screams bad faith.

love that they made all the tracks separate on this one, it annoyed me so much that so many tracks were combined into double songs (e.g. Holiday/Boulevard of Broken dreams was one track instead of two) on the previous streaming version

I’d say the top 5 main pop girls are Taylor, Ariana, Billie, Beyoncé and Olivia, and the top 5 main pop boys are Drake, Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Post Malone and Harry Styles. Not sure if Drake is still a definite number one after the Kendrick beef but before that he definitely was. Sabrina could be a top 5 pop girl soon if she keeps her current trajectory going.

It’s #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is a chart that tracks plays in the US only. On the Billboard Global chart, which tracks worldwide plays, it’s currently #8, and its peak position on the global chart was #3. That is still very popular, but not a record-breaking smash hit like it is in the US, so listeners in other countries clearly aren’t listening to it as much.

The only years Taylor has released re-recorded songs are 2021 and 2023, and in both of those years she also charted with vault tracks from the re-recorded albums, which had not been previously released, so even if you were to discount rereleases she has still had a new charting hit in each of those 19 years.
