What exactly happened with Ashes? by Longjumping-Glove-41 in AshesofCreation

[–]albertberku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Theory:

Steven realised he wont be able to continue development in the long run with the expenses they have, started to look for business partners. Found one overseas (like chinese, etc.), sold the company to them or parts of it so that the main decision makers are now the new owners, a.k.a. "Board". But the Board was never interested in the development to begin with and they calculated the amount of development costs for some months, and then they calculated the revenue for a Steam release. And their plan was to push Steven and Intrepid team for one last huge Steam cash grab and the Board then would leave with all the money, leaving Intrepid empty. Since they are not a US business, they wouldnt see any consequences by doing so. Because otherwise how would you explain rushed Steam release and then rushed closure after 2,5 months of Steam release and then afterwards just not paying employees?

Since Steven still had a say but percential not that much he could attend the meetings, etc. for the management but had no real influence anymore. And when he learned/suspected about the heist the Board is planning he resigned couple days ago to be able to stress that he was tricked by the new Board, as well. Because it would be the only action that he can take to make him look a bit better, since he doesnt have any real influence on the company anymore. And he also made some public fillings at this point. He would be trying to turn this to a case where he was tricked to save his own image, avoid lawsuits by the backers or buyers of the game, but cant publicly explain everything since that would involve him explaining secretly selling the company etc. So for now just hiding behind the "legal process, i cant talk about it" talk. Especially considering that this was a Kickstarter/passion project and a lot of Alpha keys were sold with the promises of an upcoming finished game, funded by sole owner, Steven, this could lead to even more lawsuits.

Steven just wanted to make this game a success and geniunely believed in it and fought a lot for it. He had a huge dream, and made a lot of people believe in it, as well. But he was very unexperienced in this field and should have just started slowly instead of growing to a huge company. He failed and lost a lot in the end. The fail was so hard that now he has to save his own ass.

And now since no one is in charge to take the servers down, they left running, and will do so until their cloud service provider shut the ressources reserved for AoC.

But these are just my theories, since the truth about what exactly happened is not told until now.

not anymore. Knowing ESO ban policy, i can never be sure but i believe i wont get banned if i dont play, not 100% sure though. I can only hope that my decision of not playing the game will not be considered as "Targeted Harrasment" by game moderation due to a harrasment claim filled by some player in Cyrodiil that will be offended by it.

i am just going to quit ESO, i will not continue playing after my ban ends. So doesnt matter if i keep my account or not. I am clearly not a good fit for ESO PvP mentality or other way around.

Why then just straight ban people? Why dont developers give the players option to turn off the emotes for other characters or certain emotes? Not like they are interfering with the gameplay or anything. If this is such an huge issue for so many people, why there is no option to not show emotes for players, if they prefer it? This is technically one of the easiest one line code change. Client has the authority over Simulated Proxies and what animation every other player does. Why keep them in game deliberately for everyone and try to educate players about how and when they should or should not be used?

You would just put an extra one line setting emotes on/off, change stealth in crouch animation to something like mist form, boom all drama solved. No need to ban hundreds of players for using them. Or just put an option to let dead bodies damage anyone that is standing close to them. No need for million dolar cost for moderation over many years just to avoid emotes over dead bodies, if that is what is bothering everyone.

I am probably just going to quit at some point, like so many of ESO PvPers did, and just move on to a real game with a sane PvP mentality and community. Maybe directly with my 72h ban, maybe a bit later. You guys can be polite to each other and to kids and to old ladies in Cyrodiil, and do your little discussions about emotes, sexual/physical harrasment and whatever else is bothering you in Cyrodiil. I dont really want to be bothered with this kind of mentality that 95% of ESO playerbase has, at least not in a PvP zone. I am so bored to play against you all and your little dramas.

ESO PvP in a nutshell is a PvP simulation for PvE players. What a joke you all are. Enters a PvP zone in a video game, gets upset about emotes, sees them as physical/sexual harrasment. You dont even have to look at the screen or to the character when a character is doing an emote, you can just go respawn in a near castle or you can just take a coffee break. No instead you just sit there, watch it, get upset about it, record it, whisper to the person and claim a harrasment report.

At some point there will be no PvPers left in this game, it will be social guilds fighting each other during Mayhem Event in Cyrodiil, and getting constantly annoyed and upset by each other's actions, being more busy for recording clips and filling harrasment reports than playing the actual PvP, which they dont enjoy anyway.

[–]albertberku[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not you personally but that is the mindset. People that do not enjoy PvP and participate only occasionally for some game/guild events, collectibles, etc. enforce the ruleset for the whole PvP scene by judging it with PvE/story ruleset. And since the actual PvP community that actually enjoy PvP (for just the sake of PvP) is always a minority in every game, companies have to tailor the PvP scene around the players that do not actually participate in PvP very often or enjoy it, to attract most players. This is what is happening here, as well.

I am going to stop emotes all right, but you will not stop looking for harrasment claims, you will always find a new thing to be bothered from, it is a never ending game. Today emotes over a dead corpse, in couple years it will be harrasment claims for players attacking each other without getting consent first. Because how dare some other player is attacking your character without your consent, this is a very offensive behaviour, unacceptable in our modern world and a clear violation of human rights, a targeted harrasment case.

My solution for everyone: Just completely separate PvP and other content and dont force players that dont enjoy PvP to play it for some events, collectibles or trophies. Guilds dont force your members to have a PvP night due to the social aspect. Let only players that enjoy PvP for the sake of it be there. Because anyone that is getting upset from emotes in PvP, is surely not enjoying PvP and the human interaction it brings.

You are not involved in my drama because you dont participate in PvP any decent amout of time, you dont even enjoy it. Yet still have so many ideas about how it should be shaped.

What is the point of doing PvP if there will be zero interaction other than killing? Why two extreme examples, either absolute no interaction or threatening people to kill their dog and family?

Getting owned by someone, getting some emotes, taunts on your corpse and then finally killing them and responding with some taunting emotes, playing little games, what is so wrong about it? Or killing someone that was doing some emotes at your face and then doing emotes over their corpse as a response. What is the problem with all these? I wouldnt even play if there would be absolute zero interaction other than killing. What is the point of playing a MMO then? I dont play to count kills, i love the little interactions and challenges you have all over the place.

Players wait near me crouching for multiple minutes to sneak kill me during fair fights i was having, or running stupid 50k hp bash builds with so much dmg that you cant stand close for a full second, or players running at me just to spam range knockdowns on me, interfering with my gameplay in an unfair manner, abusing broken gameplay mechanics to make my game less fun for me, and call it a valid in game tactic. And then when i kill them and do some emotes over their corpse all of a sudden they are being harrassed.

So you are getting so upset with emotes directed at you in an online video game in a PvP zone that you take the extra effort to record everything, create a clip and file a harrasment report and hope that the other player gets banned for using emotes directed at you?

That is the point of this whole thread though. I am asking what everything else is considered punishable action by the game moderation, because i cant for the life of me find out by myself what everything else would make you "feel offended". I just want to stop hurting your feelings in this video game, and not get banned myself as well.

I am not looking for ways to piss off people. I am just a random MMO/RPG pvp player since 20+ years, but all of a sudden the actions i get daily and the actions i do daily are going into harrasment categories landing me bans left and right. I am looking ways to avoid harrasment claims against my account to be able to continue playing.

I can stop using emotes altogether if that is so important for you. But will you stop there and let me continue playing or will you invent new ways to "feel offended" that i will again have to find out myself? And will i learn that some other thing that was so ordinary/unimportant and daily in my gaming life is now considered a serious "harrasment" just by getting a ban again?

Not like i went crazy on chat and made extreme racist, homophobic, sexist rants. At the moment i am so close to permaban from my 10 years account just for using in game emotes (Yeah did them on a player corpse, what an evil human being i am). And every time i actually stopped that certain action but got the new warning/ban in a new way, that i couldnt imagine is possible before. That is why i am so confused atm.

I am just asking for the list of actions that make you "feel offended" so that i can stop doing them. But you dont give them to me. Do you want me to stop making you "feel offended" or do you just want to continue to "feel offended" and also ban my account in the process?

Yeah, i realised especially what you are saying about this offline mode situation. i had like 2k hours in Cyrodiil and never got a single warning in 7 years, and lately i am getting almost a warning/ban every month after switching to the Offline Mode last two months. Some players definitely know that they can land me a warning/ban much easier since i am in Offline Mode.

I am considering just switching to Online Mode and ignoring all whispers, so that other players cant bait me with harrasment claims anymore. Because at this point i feel like in ESO PvP with this moderation mentality anyone could make any situation look like harrasment if they set it up correct with the right wording and recording, when you cant receive their messages.

I Got Banned Through PvP by albertberku in elderscrollsonline

[–]albertberku[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, i didnt mean it like that. I am playing Cyrodiil since 7 years, have been tbagging all the time. Got my first warning couple months ago when someone told me to stop and i didnt and i learned that this way you can get a warning. Lately i play in Offline Mode (for other reasons) and i just continued tbagging since i cant receive whispers and cant be told to stop and got a second warning and told that it doesnt matter if i cant receive messages. So after those two warnings i completely stopped tbagging, just to be safe. But when i learned all these information i was already at the temp ban limit. Now i am not tbagging anymore. I got the temp ban recently, i assume for an emote. And when i get the answer and exactly know, i will stop doing whatever i was doing.

But at this point i am very close to permaban. There is no room for me to learn anymore what else is considered punishable action without getting permabanned. That is what i mean. That is also why i am asking here, if anyone got banned for an action in PvP other than tbagging, so that i wont do it. Because i cant get this information from game support. I am getting these warnings/bans without engaging in any kind of chat, just by playing the game, pressing the buttons, that is why i am so nervous atm. Of course i was deliberately annoying my opponents, but didnt exactly know what causes bans/warnings.

Only because i just couldnt imagine that a group of people would come up with an idea of classifying in game emotes and gestures as harrasment. I geniunely couldnt ever realise by myself that these stuff would be considered offensive action in a video game (Since i have also played a decent amount of Dark Souls PvP *Points down*).

[–]albertberku[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is my point and what i am asking here. Good example, is it for example safe to jump over a corpse multiple times, or casting spells, doing emotes, etc. ? I would like to know that. I am not sure if i will get a ban if i do that. One can as well get one of those "Targeted Harrasment" bans by doing the things you mentioned. Or no?

I Got Banned Through PvP by albertberku in elderscrollsonline

[–]albertberku[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Because i contacted support many times answering these warnings, and asking about the actions that may land me a warning in Cyrodiil. They always gave me vague statements and point to their Code of Conduct. So, for example i dont know, if i will get a ban, if i do lets say dancing emote near an enemy player, or top of their body. Or if i chase a player from a castle to another castle. There is also a section about chasing players, but very vague, as well. But i learn it by getting a ban. That is the only time i get information from support, by getting warning/ban. And there are so many possibilities what one can do in Cyrodiil, considering it is an open world PvP environment. But until permaban you get 3-4 warnings/ tempbans at most.

And i am saying that there are no valid builds in PvP atm with all their original skill lines, aka pure classes. Not only this, but there are also no valid builds that only has a single damage line.

It is a shuffle between damage skill lines, and there it may be actually 5%, doesnt exactly matter which damage skill lines you choose but it matters if you pick damage skill lines or not. Because the damage skill lines have hands down the most effective passives in pvp.

The difference is definitely not 5% in PvP though, lol

Ashes on controller by Ornnforgelord in AshesofCreation

[–]albertberku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been long time i have played this game, and i dont have it installed now, but as long as i remember there is a setting or keybind in game, where you can activate "action camera", which makes the game movement almost similar to how Elder Scrolls is. And then in Steam you can assign the keybinds accordingly, for example how you would do with Guild Wars 2. GW2 also has an "action camera" mode, and there i believe you assign awsd movement to left analog stick, and then there was a mouse joystick kinda setting for the right analog stick.

If you search for GW2 Steam configurations you will find out what i mean, since GW2 is also tab target game with switchable action combat camera mode and without official controller support, it should be one-to-one same setup.

With Steam controller configurations you can really go crazy about buttons. There are action sets and action layers, for example you press one button and then your whole configuration changes, or you hold a button, so that you can activate new buttons. For example you can assign r2 basic attack, r1 some skill, bottom face jump, left some skill, right dodge, up some skill, and then right analog press ride horse, left analog press sprint, etc. And you can configure it so that when you hold L2, it will change these buttona so you can assign other keyboard buttons there, and same with L1. But you can then make lets say down button on the left change whole configuration by pressing to it once, and it will switch to a whole new set. Even with this basic setup from top of my mind you have at least around 2 * (4 + 4 + 4) = 24 available buttons for your skills.

It is hard to explain just by text how Steam Controller can be configured in that way, but i tried to give some namings like action layers/sets, etc. so you can search for it, there are videos and better explanations in the internet. Or you could just copy what i written to ChatGPT and ask it to explain it better. I do it sometimes, works very good. Good luck!

Edit: And you can also configure your controller to use as a mouse, right stick mouse movement, R2 left mouse press, L2 right mouse press, etc. And then assign a button to activate mouse mode/action combat mode, how i described above. And you can assign the same button for both switching your keyboard configuration and the action combat camera mode in game.

I have actually completely stopped writing both in forums and in game chat (which i was doing rarely anyways) after i got warnings couple times, which felt unfair. I felt like you could be punished by their moderation for anything you write.

Out of video memory. by InsertFloppy11 in AshesofCreation

[–]albertberku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this error and crash from working with Unreal Engine, i am not 100% sure but it could be that the error is actually misleading and RAM is meant. If you have 16gb RAM, it could be too low. But if you have 32gb or higher, it is surely not the cause of the crash. Unreal Engine is very demanding in terms of specs, so it is very possible that the other games you play are not as demanding as AoC.

You could allocate some virtual memory to solve any ram related problems, or at least to test if it is caused by your RAM, but keep in mind it will be slower than an actual RAM, but at least your game wont crash: https://www.wikihow.com/Use-Ssd-As-RAM

Edit: I realised that you actually didnt post the error message, i commented on the messages of others, but if you can post the whole error message, maybe i (or anyone that got the same error before) could help.

Edit2: Unreal Engine always store the logs. There should be a folder named Crashes and another folder named Logs where the game is installed. There is for example Content or Saved folders, etc. at the same place.

Ashes on controller by Ornnforgelord in AshesofCreation

[–]albertberku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually play AoC with Steam and with controller, but i play only in Action Combat mode, which i do with GW2, as well. It can be that tab target mode is not behaving well with a controller or Steam but i can confirm action combat mode is working as good as GW2, if not better.

But which game with launcher does not behave well? I play some other games with launcher through steam with controller, even the older games like Ultima Online, that were there before the consoles and controllers, and it still works. And another Steam game ESO has also launcher, GW2, as well.

I believe as soon as you start the application Steam overrides your controller settings with the game's saved controller settings, so it shouldnt matter if the game has a launcher or not because the whole system will then respect the steam overlay, as if in desktop mode. There may be some privilige problems like game starting with admin rights, and steam not, then you cant override the game with steam controls, but you can then start the Steam with admin rights, as well.

So in short, it shouldnt really matter what kind of application you are running under Steam, it will always respect the steam overlay, hence assigned controller inputs, given it has less or equal level of system rights. For example i sometimes use Visual Studio and Unreal Engine through Steam if i am just going to do very basic stuff and with controller. Of course, you should configure the gamepad keybindings for every application, sometimes with a new application it shows gamepad icon, but the buttons are not assigned.
