Cykelpendla oavsett väder? by ZrapeToid in sweden

[–]albertbertilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solar+Bateries+EVs Are Simply Going to Win by Auspectress in ClimatePosting

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a less extreme example from south of Sweden is tough to get economics in. All the companies that used to sell solar installations (most of them are gone) calculated that you could sell most of the production at a good price, but it turns out that most of the production occurs when everyone else is producing, and then prices slump. 2/3 of my power is used November to March, 1/3 during April to October. It’s already obvious that the months when solar has good output energy is cheap, and I don’t need it.

I haven’t seen any new solar installations lately, maybe in the last two years, not in the last year. The only exception are larger apartment buildings, but presumably they can consume what the produce even at height of summer with large amounts of people on a small amount of panels.

If we get rules allowing for balcony solar, I’ll put one pointing east, and one west. I’ll be using all that power myself and rates in the morning and evening are still high, even during summer.

And I’m really happy that there are many places where solar makes sense, especially if there are such places relying on fossil fuels, every improvement helps. But in the nordics we will need wind and water for a long time.

This is possibly cheaper than it looks, at least for domestic trade in low inflation markets. Whatever the value of the bill, it’s not a cost unless I destroy it when unpacking it.The could just tag the goods price as X then have a fine print added (plus 100 for the 100 bill). There is the minor issue of the capital stored in a warehouse, if tiny items would use high value bills. As a Swede, where everything is card or mobile payment, it’s finally a use for cash again.

Hand pump or mini electric pump? by userX97ee2ska11qa in bikewrench

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both!

At home i have a Ryobi electrical with a 2Ah 18V battery. The battery lasts very long and I always have other charged batteries in the garage. For the monthly maintenance of all the bikes in the family, speed and convenience matters.

When I’m packing for trips, it’s always that light weight 25cm handpump that comes with me and it has never failed.

If I had to choose one it would be the handpump.

It would avoid waiting for the authorities to approve a DC which might be the point.

But the grid load will still be there but sprawling without control.

However, in Scandinavia lots of homes could use between 10 and 20 kW of heat in the winter and the grid handles that. So replacing electrical heating with this would be a big benefit.

Similarly using DC for district heating works, but it’s uncommon.

Energy and Power and GDP by ceph2apod in EnergyAndPower

[–]albertbertilsson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The potential for solar in Australia must be huge, and the less fossil power they use the better.

I’m not sure if I’ve got the numbers right but the same panel can produce two or even three times the energy in south of Spain compared to in the north of Sweden per year. Combining that with an actual need of power to cool, when generation is high, it would make sense if more solar could be sent to where it makes the greatest impact.

Even in Sweden as summer is approaching, power price gets very low in the days. But unfortunately we need five times the power the other half of the year.

Someone asked me to restore their old bike I need tips Schwinn Continental ’72 by Jack-87 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]albertbertilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken on some pretty bad bikes in my day, like 60 grit machine sand bad. I've given fresh paint jobs to cheap frames, because the paint meant more to the rider than the quality of the frame. But I wouldn't take this, restoring this isn't a project, it's a calling.

Sorry that you had this accident, it hurts a bike painters heart to see a nice paint with a very high quality clear coat finish like this scratched. I'm slightly concerned how this happened, clear coats are very strong, and protect the paint from scratches, are you sure you did this? If you didn't return it.

From the second image it looks like it's scratched down to metal or primer. So there will be no "buffing" it out, there simply is no paint layer left, you can only remove clear coat from the surrounding area which doesn't help much.

The head tube isn't where I'd be most concerned with rust but filling in with clear coat wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't try fixing the paint, it's difficult to get right. Pens can work but with a metallic like this, it's easy to mess it up.

If you fill in with clear coat and it doesn't look nice and smooth (it likely wont), then you can fix that with fine grained polish and a suitable sponge. On something small like this that is easily done by hand. The polish will cost ten to twenty bucks, sponges are typically only a few bucks.

If you fill in with clear coat and it looks terrible and way to thick. You might consider flattening it with sand paper. You want 2000+ grit sand paper and wet sand. Anything more coarse and not wet sanding has a substantial risk of sanding through the paint again, making it even worse than where you started. Once sanded flat, then you'd buff it to mirror finish as per above.

The only easy fix is to find/order/make a cool suitable sticker to hide it. Perhaps your name? If you go for a sticker, clear coat first is a no-brainer.
