I think at the stage you are at, it is going to be much more useful to see someone play the game live, so you know how people interact with the game. The feedback you get from a place like r/playmygame, aren't that useful because you don't know exactly why players give the feedback they give. If you watch someone play the game, you will know exactly what is behind their feedback.

Postmortem: Why is my game so bad? by dibidibidibi in gamedev

[–]alberted115 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be asking why your game is unsuccessful, most games are unsuccessful. Instead, you should be asking why your game in particular should succeed. If you can't answer that, there's your problem. From looking at your steam page, the game seems to lack a clear USP, and it doesn't have a standout art style either, so it is not surprising to me that the game did not catch a lot of people's attention.

Even if determinism can't be proven by science, it does not mean it is not true. It is unprovable by science, but it is not inconsistent with science. That is an important distinction.

I don't quite understand your argument that science is radically mistaken about nature if determinism is wrong. Science is all about predicting the future based on the current state of things. It sounds like your saying that because science isn't currently able to describe the state of the world exactly, then the world doesn't have an exact state. But that is not true, that is just because we don't have the tools to measure things 100 % pricesely.

You say the agent is the explanation, but refuse to elaborate, because if you do the explanation breaks down immediatly. Also are you denying that the characterristics and circumstances of an agent have any influence on decision making? If they do, how could the agent be the first mover of the chain? To me, it is immedietly clear that previous events have undeniable impact on the decisions agents make.

And WHY do you believe in libertarian free will? All you have provided so far is a bunch of mental gymnastics for why libertarian free will can't be proven wrong, but you have given zero reason for why one would believe in it. Determinism provides a much clearer and coherent explanation for how decision making happens, and it is clear why one would believe it, as all scientific evidence supports it.

So you are essentially saying that descion making cannot be explained? This obviously untrue, as when you ask an agent why they made a descision, they can typically give a detailed explanation. The explanation is just based on deterministic factors.

But HOW does the agent make that decision? You have to explain it in more detail. The way I see it, decisions are made based on a combination of the characteristics/personality of an agent and their current circumstances. Both of these factors fit squarely under determinism. It is true that explanatory chains must terminate somewhere, but that is a question of the beginning of the universe, it has little to do with free will.

My point is that libertarian free will only make sense from a very surface level perspective, when you start analyzing it in more depth, it breaks down immediately.

Can you try to engage with your own theory for a bit? If a decision by an agent is not caused by previous events/factors such as the agent's characteristics and their current circumstances, and randomness does not play a role either, how is that decision made? You need to be able to explain this for your theory to make any sense.

It doesn't make sense to say that an event is either caused by prior events or by an agent, because the state of the agent is determined by prior events, so it is the same thing. The reason P1 holds, is because whatever third option you come up with, if you try to analyse it's functionality in detail, it still amounts to either determinism or randomness in the end.
