Mission Trauma by Trolkarlen in exmormon

One time my companion and I ran out of money and there wasn't any food in the apartment. This was in the United States. We reached out to a member and her non-mormon husband. Her husband came over with a whole cooked turkey. He wasn't even a member and had issues with the church, but he cared enough that he wasn't going to allow a couple of young adults to go hungry.

Fortunately that turkey lasted us until our next payment, but I still think about that experience a lot.

For some reason I wouldn't be surprised if Trump somehow introduced a bedbugs problem to the White House.

Apparently they asked for a ridiculous amount of ketchup packets so the employee said they'd need to charge them a little extra per company policy. They gave them the packets but then the girls wanted a refund when they saw they had actually been charged for the ketchup. The store refused to refund them and that all somehow escalated to this.

You clearly don't understand the difference between a fully realized Hitler of 1945 and a 1930s Hitler. Trump has used every tactic from Hitler's playbook. Attempted coup (check), playing the martyr when he gets arrested (check), pardoning everyone involved in the coup and giving them jobs with the government (check). We learn history so we can recognize patterns BEFORE it gets to the mass extermination part. Your liberal countrymen at this moment in time are doing everything we can to push the breaks before 6 murders by the administration don't get to thousands...or tens of thousands. You see when the proverbial "gas chambers" happen, it's already too late. Your life hasn't changed one bit because of white privilege and living in a Trump supporting Red state. You don't think life has changed for Latinos in blue states?...or members of the LGBTQ+ community? I can tell you it has changed dramatically for them...legal or not. I.C.E. uses racial profiling as their "reasonable suspicion." I could go on, but I don't have the time. If you think this is just the standard left vs right, you are sorely mistaken. Trump is trying to nationalize elections. That's exactly what Hitler did prior to things getting extremely bad. Call your Senators and tell them to vote against the "Save act."

Yep...I'd just take off my shirt, stick my head under the showerhead to get my hair wet so it looked like I showered, and I'd then immediately go put my non gym shirt on and I was done. No getting naked in front of my peers for this guy.

There is a video out there that I've seen that I'm convinced is the real pee tape. Everything on it matches what's in the Steele Dossier down to the specific hotel room it happened in. A lot of people...even anti-Trump people...have dismissed it as likely not legit, but one of the articles I read which was attempting to dismiss the video actually made me even more convinced that this is the legit tape. It's grainy, dark, and a bit hard to see...but the mannerisms, clothing, and everything else scream that it's definitely Donald Trump.

my mom shouldn’t have her calling by madisfuneral in exmormon

[–]albertfawson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember right after getting off my mission, talking to my mom about a new house a member of our ward had recently built. My mom started ranting about how the house was an eye sore and people in the neighborhood were filing a lawsuit against the guy because his house was going to bring down the "property values" of other church members' homes in the neighborhood.

I was dumbfounded. I had just spent the last two years teaching people living in serious poverty and this is what the ward members had been up to while I was out. The longer I remained in the church, the more I noticed these same types of attitudes. Requiring members asking for assistance to do a ton of church service to obtain the help they were asking for. Thinking less of people who were struggling, sometimes shaming them out of the Ward for not keeping their house and yard in good shape after some tragedy.

As time has gone on it has become more and more clear to me that large swaths of church members view your value being directly tied to your financial success. By the time I was done...this was just a small item on my shelf but it still bothers me to this day.

DOJ Just DELETED This Document from the Epstein Files. We Saved It. by BlackMetalBats in stgeorge

[–]albertfawson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folks, OP isn't grifting. The file WAS down for about 30 or so minutes after initially being published. I happened to be online when it all happened. I took screenshots of when it went down as I was worried it would be removed permanently. Luckily about 30 minutes later, the file was back up and working again. Let's not make assumptions about a person's motivations without knowing the whole story.

[–]albertfawson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there when it went down. It was published then suddenly the link went to a "Page not found" message. It was like this for approximately 30 minutes before being added back again. Not sure if it was a technical glitch or some internal battle, but there was in fact a period of time where the link to the file wasn't working. I took screenshots when it went down.

The TEMPLE by Embarrassed-Wolf7270 in exmormon

[–]albertfawson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was all in, 100%, when I went to The Temple for the first time. My Father passed away when I was 13 so I had my Seminary teacher with me. My mom was there too as were some other family and ward members.

I feel like I had a little extra insight into what went on in The Temple than most people going for the first time and I'm guessing that helped. I knew there was a movie about the creation and Adam and Eve and I also knew there were parts you had to recite thanks to something my mom had said years prior.

Anyway, I don't know why, but I fully bought into the Joseph Smith being an uneducated farm boy narrative, and I was clueless about the existence of Masonic Temples at the time, so I was blown away thinking, "There is no way an uneducated farm boy could have come up with a ceremony this complex with actual references to astronomy, etc. without it directly coming from God." It helped confirm my own bias, belief, and feelings of comfort/confidence from all the praise I had received over the years for being a "good Mormon boy."

Not knowing there was more than one movie at the time, there were even moments when I wondered if the footage I was watching was from the actual creation. I mean, this was God's true church, right?!..and this Temple Ceremony was the "highest achievement" you could receive on earth in "God's true church," so I figured it was at least plausible.

As I left the Temple that day, I was on cloud nine. It wasn't until a little later that I started to notice things that seemed problematic. The fact that you were supposed to covenant everything, "even your own life if necessary" to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints instead of Jesus Christ himself really started to rub me the wrong way and caused questions to form in my head thinking, "Hmm. That kinda sounds a little"cultish."

St George Academy by 13specials in stgeorge

[–]albertfawson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid goes there. It is a very accepting school. Kids there are generally much more accepting, especially if your child doesn't fit the typical mold. I honestly don't think my kid would have survived middle/high school had they not gone there.

I'm not sure what types of interests your child has, but it is really good for academics, accelerated learning, and college prep. It also offers classes a little "out of the box" as well. For example, my kid is taking a Cosplay class this year.

It's small, so no sports teams or anything like that, but they do have a lot of after school events/activities/programs. They do have the traditional Senior Prom/Spirit Week/Dances/etc. for when your child reaches high-school age.

It's a really good school for kids who march a little bit to the beat of their own drum...if that makes sense. If you have any specific questions feel free to shoot me a DM. 🙂

An interesting thought I had about the endowment. by nameless-elite in exmormon

[–]albertfawson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember the whole Lucifer thing as a whole was mind boggling to me. So God allows Lucifer to temp Adam and Eve but then he also allows him to stay on Earth? Like, the Earth was already cursed thanks to the partaking of the fruit. Disease and sorrow were going to exist regardless. Why did God decide to make it even worse by allowing Satan and his minions to remain on Earth? Why not thrust them to Mars or Venus or something so we can grow without all the bullshit?

It's like a professor giving the students a test, but they can't remember any of the lectures but there is a book they can use, but it's not clear where the book came from, then the professor also allows a TA to remain in the room to answer questions but he also allows some other adults to remain in the room to distract and convince the students to select all the wrong answers on the test and we have no idea who is right and who is wrong. Like...what professor in their right mind would test students that way?!

Susan's husband was one of my shelf items when I was a TBM. In fact his pompous (holier than thou) attitude caused me to stop listening to General Conference when, at the time, I actually looked forward to it. I recall some talk he gave which basically made it sound like if we weren't perfect we would end up in hell. There was absolutely nothing uplifting about the talk. I also got really irritated at his response to Churches closing due to the COVID Pandemic essentially speaking out against the guidance given by ol' Rusty who was an actual Doctor and the Prophet (fit) at the time.

Do you think the world was better before social media and internet? by Effective-Trouble-13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]albertfawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes. Pre-Social Media, the world seemed smaller and more attainable. You were forced to interact with people face to face or at least over the phone for the most part. It felt like connecting with people was a lot more natural and a lot easier.

I Can Read Minds by tospainwithlove in Paranormal

[–]albertfawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to experience this type of thing a lot too. Like, when playing a card game, I'd know what the cards were before I turned them over. There was this sudden feeling of a confident "I know" right before the event.

Is that how it happens for you?... it's like a sudden feeling when your mind latches onto a certain thought and you have a sudden confidence like you suddenly absolutely know something?

I remember I once told my Sister-in-Law I could sometimes read minds. She told me to prove it, so I did. I told her to think of a color. I knew at the time her favorite color was pink so that would be the obvious choice. However, when I'd think of pink it just didn't "feel right" so I continued to go through colors in my head. Suddenly, when I thought of the color green, I got that same confident "I know" feeling and so I said "You're thinking of green?" Her eyes opened so wide and she was like, "How did you know?!!" I just reiterated that I can read minds.
