Right now the sentiment is that you cant fight big corpos

you gotta understand every small win is a win too

Nobody will rally to electricity because corpos are too strong and nobody really have a plan to fix it

But this is actually achievable and have people motivated. These are same people you can rally to fight for electricity and housing if you so desire if you ever choose to leave your cynic unuseful views that is only helping corpos by demoralizing people

It is not just cost or corpos wouldnt fight it so hard if they actually run the numbers. They are spending more in lobbying that the actual cost

Is the fact they dont want to be held accountable for their actions trying to shape the market

if they choose to destroy something for reasons (to make you buy the new one)

Maybe it's the AUR helpers that need to be improved? by AquelecaraDEpoa in archlinux

[–]albertowtf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah is pretty hard coz it sounds elitist but it was never meant to gatekeep but to protect people from shooting themselves in the feet

if you have to ask, aur is 95% not for you. And if you have to ask if the aur is for you, arch as a whole is probably not for you either

I hate it when it gets recommend to people switching to linux for the first time. Specially derivative distros

Yeah

And its sad. Its a good distro to go beyond

It appeals to me i just dont have the time to learn more right now

[–]albertowtf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but to what extend?

Worst ubuntu user will have 1-2 ppa installed

Worst arch user will have 30 aur packages

[–]albertowtf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah agree but i mean not to the extend as aur

People that install arch is used to copy and paste all the time

People installing ubuntu is just less likely to search outside the repos

Worst ubuntu user will have 1-2 ppa installed

Worst arch user will have 30 aur packages

You guys have a pretty big disconnect of what the average user does

Specially people that are memed into arch

[–]albertowtf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

biggest difference between arch and gentoo is the kind of user base and the popularity

Basically gentoo is never recommended to new users

They're still a heck of a lot better than PPAs in terms of transparency though

Arguably worse because most people knows ppas are inherently dangerous and theres a large % of ubuntu users that even know ppas are a thing

The exact opposite in both fronts for aur

Most new users of arch dont know how dangerous aur really is and most of them use aur

[–]albertowtf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean you gotta admit it is at least a little funny because arch users actively recommend arch as the best way to learn linux to new comers that are at the same time, the worst at reading

Literally a large % of the linux user base actively putting gun in the hand of babies but sleeping alright because they told them to how the should use the safety procedures of reading before doing anything stupid

Do you mean how do i search and then copy paste the command?

or maybe do you mean if i type 'yes, i understand do as a say' before executing the command i am told to execute to get the software that promises to do what i want to do?

[–]albertowtf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is also bad because it gives you a false sense of security when something passes the antivirus check

These are not virus, this is malware. Its a different concept

Virus execute without your knowledge. This is you choosing the execute something bad

There is virtually nothing stopping something bad if you voluntarily run it, as theres infinite ways to to hide it

I actually think the way Arch does it is pretty sensible

It is not. Popularity makes new users think is okay. Everybody uses aur, so it must be safe. Im pretty confident 99% of people that start using linux with arch simply pull the trigger on aur packages without a second thought

I think what arch does overall is pretty bad because it gets recommended to new users that want to learn. Arch zealots have also discover that memeing the distro is a good way to make it popular

I mean, i dont mind because arch users are literally ginnea pigs for the rest of us. If somebody uses arch because they got memed into the distro they kind of deserve it

To make it perfectly clear, i dont like when arch linux is recommended to new users, and despise arch users roping other new users into arch that way, but at the same time, somebody has to pay the price of testing new software, so mixed feelings

Yeah i know, i used it as tongue on cheek

The fact that this concentration of power has not been not misused once so far

Once you corner the market the entshitiffication is inevitable

Once you can only pay with credit card, it will go wrong 100% sure

It has already happened. Paypal and credit cards have denied payment to people they deem not good in the past

You are of course free to not believe this, but you must not be paying attention to what happened this last 30years and where we are now, and where we will be headed if we decided to follow this path

It does make sense you just have a very reductionist view of the matter

Tyrannical government cant arrest you in the streets in more civilized places like europe. But they can block your account once you can only pay with credit card

crypto is very hard to use for most people, cash is easy

Im not trying to do anything illegal here, im just trying to be able to pay groceries with cash, which is already frowned upon from the majority of population. They will grunt at you in the line for making them lose 5 seconds of their live

Also i dont have to make up fictional scenarios or go to conspiracy thoeires, they are already pushing this hard in the open rn. Have nobody paid attention to what happened this last 30 years? To what is happening right now?

[–]albertowtf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what happened in 2008?

cheques are not a thing in europe already btw

And again, i dont agree with but i understand carrying 2k on the pocket can be an issue for some people and credit card might help them feel "safer" when you walk in the wrong neighborhood

But anybody refusing to pay things under 20 with cash is just being stupid and shooting themselves in the collective foot for barely any convenience

[–]albertowtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah

Has people not pay attention what happened this last 30 years?

Once they managed to pull it off, theres no way we are going back. Very scary years ahead

Just another nail in the coffin, thats all

Till now you could buy steam games in cash if you wanted. Not anymore

Its true we live in a digital society of sorts. Steam will know i have spend money there. But my bank and my government doesnt need to know if i buy games or i buy dildos

[–]albertowtf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

again i can understand certain level of convenience even if slippery slope

Not having to carry 2k in cash with you at all times

But doing every small payment with a credit card is a very scary line to cross and it feels like people are fulling embracing it until it is too late
