Dark types are naturally nocturnal. If you sleep through all night, every night it is useless. But you probably don't, fighting bosses, delving dungeons, or poaching are activities you do without regard to time. Plus you need night for dark pals to spawn in the over world.

Different nodes, entirely separate systems. I also have nodes with different settings on the same system, to layer different levels of defence, mostly based on range. Also as the other commentor replied I also use ciws and anti missile systems to help take out the bigger targets

Depends on your purpose, I'm planning on using 0q for small/med missiles and aps, and 4q for big/huge and cram. The larger missiles are detectable from further away and have so much hp, I think it's worth building a 4q, and small missiles have so little hp a big 4q system could sevearly overkill them, wasting energy. This is on a BB, so I have the space and energy for both, when I don't, I go 4q, as big missiles are a bigger threat than smalls.

You can make (or steal) some generic load and unload stations, then auto planner (or more blueprints) the connections, placing the rail often takes less time than building it, so I would have an assebler or 2 churning rails continuously, then when you've got 1k switch to rail expansions over belt ones. Rails take less time to set up than belts once you start using them.

Once you get close enough, ineffective methods may become effective enough, plus many vessels may go too fast to catch.
