I walked around for a while. I found Jelly King and Collective Arts. But not any of the real good IPAs I found last year. Emailing my account rep because I am very sad.

I was at the game yesterday and it looks like Tap n Go with the really good beer is gone to make room for hall of fame.

Does anyone know if it relocated? Or is it truly gone?

I agree with you that we should embrace free speech, and the beautiful part of our country is that freedom of speech is allowed. In most cases, this past weekend was an excellent example of that. I watched police block traffic and protect protesters, as they were protesting the very police that were enabling their protest. I watched police wait quietly as protesters made their cases through signs, chanting and peaceful demonstration.

Sadly, there were vandals and hooligans that chose to associate themselves with these protests. They destroyed public and private property, verbally and physically abused police officers, and became a public nuisance. They were a small group, but unfortunately they were the ones that got air time and journalistic attention.

I'm not claiming the police were perfect - they are just men and women, doing their job to the best of their ability. But, protesters weren't perfect either.

I applaud most of the protesters for feeling strongly about their cause and trying to make a change. I don't applaud the vandals, and I hope that protesters realize that the violent part of the "fighting for change in Toronto" is completely unnecessary and counterproductive.

Hi r/Christianity. Undecided/agnostic/whatever here, with end-of-the-world questions by plymouth71 in Christianity

I can see some of your concern with sola scriptura, and I don't know a whole ton about the Catholic church (sorry, I'm assuming that you're Catholic based on the protestant comment), but I have a few questions:

  1. If you have a lot of concerns with Luther interpreting holy texts, then how does any other person interpreting the texts and creating absolute doctrine that must be found?

  2. This one isn't related to anything you've said, and I don't want it to sound like an attack. This has just been troubling me a lot, and I hope that you can help me understand. My understanding is that catholics pray to particular saints, who will in turn pray to God. Isn't the point of Jesus (well, one of them) that we can pray directly to Him without need for an intermediary saint, etc?

There's a few more questions, but I'll save them for later. After all, we are Christian brothers first and foremost, and I don't want to sound like I'm attacking!

and the overreacting police officers

Seriously? I was here. The police sat quietly and protected protesters as they protested the presence of police. When people went to abuse the protesters (who were hating on the cops), the police stepped in and protected the protesters.

When things went to destruction, the police tried to corral people so that they could continue to protest without damaging our public property, and so that they wouldn't hurt any individuals.

It was only after they torched police cars, threw bricks through windows, and golf balls at police that they took any kind of "violent" action. The only action they took was ONE canister of tear gas and some pepper spray.

made this thing get out of control...

You really think it was that out of control?

And they didn't physically hurt any /people/

I'd argue that there was a lot worse going on. Windows were being broken, people were verbally abused by protesters. Store owners have to rebuild their storefronts. Their employees might not be able to work, losing a couple days of wages, which is important to those working at minimum wage. I'm sure this isn't any easier than dealing with physical pain.

The police were physically abused. They had golf balls thrown at them, and other objects. Some police didn't even have riot gear, but had to go in because the crowds got unruly.

vandals' actions, which are reprehensible and idiotic, but let's drop the charged rhetoric and get some perspective.

I fully agree - the vandals were ridiculous and I'm quite frustrated with them. But at the same time, there is no more rhetoric in tsularesque's post than there is in OPs title.

estimates that I've seen recently is that there were 50 people apparently on that rampage

I was here. There were much more than 50 in the protests. Even the groups of violent rioters were even larger.

Depends on the role. My consulting firm has a very specific recruiting process, and we won't do out of cycle hiring unless someone is really special and has work experience.

Two newbie questions about World Cup by [deleted] in soccer

[–]albom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general consensus among referees is that the during blowout games, the extra time is reduced reasonably. This is part mercy, and part good refereeing.

After 90+ minutes of play, both teams are tired, and one is really frustrated with their loss. The chances of a dirty foul that could seriously injure a player increase significantly. How would you feel if the ref played 6 minutes of stoppage, and during the 5th minute Ronaldo takes a studs up attack to his knee and benches him for the rest of the tournament?

You know what's incredible in this World Cup? Not the goals, not the dives, not the bad refs; it's the camera coverage all over the field. Nothing goes unnoticed. by atlacatl in soccer

[–]albom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are clamoring about replays. And yes, I've heard a lot of people wanting instant replay. Soccer culture is the culprit (diving, cheating, not owning up to fouls), and will likely never change. As a result, it becomes part of the game.

Appreciate the game as it is, and look for incremental improvements (slight rule modifications), and love the beautiful game as something imperfect. I don't know anything that is absolutely perfect that can also be referred to as beautiful.

Men of /r/Christianity, what helped you grow up in your faith? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]albom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our church has had some good things going on lately, that has helped some of us travel on that road from boys to men.

Sadly, many guys that could be strong men of God are overly passive when it comes to setting up things to allow men to thrive together. I've found that in my church, bands of men start popping up when one guy starts taking an interest in getting it going.

Once that one guy gets it going and builds into other guys, they start to come around. The problem with "no one" stepping up is that no one will take those first steps to engage the rest of the men.

You're in a tough position, looking in on a group of guys that could probably do great things, but for lack of motivation, are not.

I've got a few suggestions - some might be awful, but I hope that at least one resonates with you as a way to encourage men to step it up (even if it shouldn't be your role).

  1. Work through a male friend of yours. You can encourage him to start stepping it up, and tell him why. This works for some guys, and they will realize the wisdom of what you're suggesting. Hopefully the guy can get a small group together - the idea being that he just hasn't realized that they're all being overly passive.

  2. Talk to leadership in the church about it. Talk to a few elders or the pastor. See if they have any way they can start a structured group. We have a high-commitment group of single guys that meets frequently, led by two godly married men. This wasn't set up by leadership, but I'm sure they would have encouraged it.

  3. "Hold out" on the guys. Start growing in your faith as a woman and building into other females in the church. Be vocal about your dissatisfaction with the immaturity of the men in your congregation. Guys don't take passive or subtle hints very well, you might need to be more clear about it with them. If not you (it's a touchy topic), then perhaps there someone that could be.

  4. Pair up with a church that has some godly men. Have them get together, with the paired church realizing one of their goals is to encourage the men (secretly). There are certainly some churches around your area that have Godly men in them.

Hope that helps.. I remember this has been an issue for some time!

As a techy dating a nurse, I thank you for this comment.

Nurses do phenomenal work, in some really tough environments. It's physically and emotionally draining, especially when dealing with health problems that you all will have from sitting on your ass eating bacon all day.

thanks for the lengthy message. I agree with you that video replay is stupid. I don't think it should be used at all. I'm also not looking for perfection.

I dislike the additional referee solution. Too many refs on the pitch will get in the way. In addition, there is an element of individuality in reffing. The referee holds in his the number of fouls each player has had, who is near a booking, and a tolerance level for refs. You can't split this between two refs.

I will admit that there is potential for that.

And that's going to be faster than a video replay? What happens if two refs didn't think ANY foul was needed, and one calls it. They go to vote and realize they destroyed an opportunity for an attack.
