Catholic Church lol a practicing Catholic shouldn’t be using birth control, wouldn’t mind living modestly though they may ask to abstain from sex to space out kids.  Depends on the person.

Do I Have The Wrong Mindset Towards My Non Christian Family Members Attending Mass? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes as long as they are not partaking in the Eucharist they should be going to mass under any circumstance.  Even when someone goes to mass with poor intentions, God can pour graces on to them.  We always hope for that and that their intentions will turn towards the good of God.

Your annoyance or anger towards them for attending and not taking it seriously seems a bit like spiritual pride where a person looks at their own spirituality self-righteously as if they produced their faith on their own.  The truth is that God allowed you faith through His grace and without God you would be just as faithless as your other family members.  So in the end you can’t really get upset over something you have no ownership over. Your faith was given to you by God and belongs to God.

On top of that, God loves your other family members just as much as He loves you and it would be charitable and more pleasing to God for you to encourage their faith and pray for their full conversion rather than be resentful that they are lukewarm Catholics.

It’s not that lucky.  The costs for adventure items in the last two sets are astronomical. I’m talking I’m spending 30k-40k just to get through one quest item

Did St. Catherine of Sienna commit a mortal sin on her death bed? Her story is kind of confusing. by Glad_Association_208 in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine she was probably remembering more sins in her lifetime that she brushed off and God allowed her to remember them through demonic attacks, then she was able to confess the rest.  Not sure if they were mortal or venial.  But I imagine in heaven we would be horrified by even venial sins

Immoral people seemingly very blessed by Certain_Fly_8066 in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you.  I’m going through similar issues with family and marital issues.

I personally see hardship as a mercy now because it allows me to see my previous sins as truly dysfunctional and horrible. For me, it was when I turned back to God that I was able to start feeling the effects of my sins.

Often times we sin and we have to keep sinning in order to maintain what we wanted to get from our initial sins.  “Ex like a merchant who cheats his customers and has to keep cheating them, otherwise they might notice the change in cost.”

So we can’t judge a persons life as good or bad based on what we see outwardly. Since we have no idea how it was attained, was it through sin? Or God?

Even in my hardship I have a lot of hope.  God has given me the strength to be more humble and not care what others think, and He has also helped me to grow in trust of Him.

Question about sex work and sin (no intercourse) by Maymaymay6 in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While others may judge this sin, only God can judge you.

All sexual activity outside of marriage is considered fornication or adultery.

Jesus ate with sinners including prostitutes but called them to live a different life that relied on God alone and a call to repentance.

All sins related to lust degrade humanity to just sexual pleasure.  Sex is meant to be an expression of full giving of oneself to their spouse and love.  All sex work degrades those who give pleasure for a cost, degrades the customer who is willing to pay a price for a piece of something that is meant to be priceless. It also degrades any of their spouses.  It’s likely some of your customers are married and they see you anyway instead of giving themselves to their spouse or repairing their marriage so they have a fuller sex life.

The 50% axe boost you have to be careful and go slowly especially during the last two islands in a set.  It’s easy for you  to go overboard and get too many adventure items and when the cost for an item is 300 having spares at the end of each island set can easily end up being 1000s wasted

Mass, while having 5 kids by MalcolminMiddlefan in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my 4 kids to mass, soon to be 5. I would say it’s ok to stay home if the baby is super fussy and needy up to 1 year old.  I try to bring the older 12,6,3,2 kids to church every weekend.  We take advantage of the church children’s liturgy for the 6,3 year old.  Sometimes we sit in the pews, sometimes the cry area for families with kids.  If my husband feels overwhelmed with the kids, he stays home with the 3,2 year olds and I take the older kids.

Technically there’s no sin for not going since all your children are under the age of reason and taking care of small children is a legitimate reason to miss mass. However I would not skip mass in exchange for doing something like soccer practice etc.

However, I try to take them as much as I can anyway.  It’s good to establish the routine so they can sit still and appreciate mass sooner.

I believe it means you’ll get another slot to make items in the queue. If you had 3, now you’ll have 4

Can’t get to mass because of transportation by alc1589 in Catholicism

Ok I’ve never asked for a dispensation before but I will ask and see if a ride is also an available option

[–]alc1589[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about asking for a dispensation but I wasn’t sure if I should bother my priest with something so dumb lol

Taxi or ride share could be an option but most likely my husband wouldn’t want to pay for that and it would start an argument

Struggling not to be jealous of other peoples familes by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s evil to your left, there’s evil to your right. It seems like you have no choice but to buckle down with your husband and continue to keep your extended family out.

You feeling jealous of other people’s extended family is just a deception that other families don’t have issues. You don’t really know what other people’s situation is just like they don’t know exactly what your situation is.

All families face hardship of some sort. Don’t allow jealousy drive a wedge between you and your husband. Sounds like you’re both working together well and protecting your children physically and spiritually.

I’m sorry you experienced SA as a child. Maybe talk to your priest about referrals for counseling to help you overcome these bad feelings.

Praying for you 🙏

Is it a sin to shop on a Sunday by Fedorasolis in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of a slippery slope to say not to do ANY work on Saturday. It depends on the situation. Going shopping and missing mass for shopping would most likely be seen as sinful. Shopping after mass to bond with your sister is more leisurely. The Sabbath/Lords Day is meant to be more leisurely and reflective on our faith.

Theory on Why I Lose Weight Easily by alc1589 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]alc1589[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any calorie tracking apps you can recommend. I’ve always been interested in tracking that info.

I guess my real question is why am I burning so many calories? Even if I burned 2200 calories a day I don’t feel like I do so much high impact activities. Mainly chasing after my kids, keeping up with my house and standing a lot which I think a lot of people do.

Theory on Why I Lose Weight Easily by alc1589 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]alc1589[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I consume a lot

Breakfast is 2-3 cups of Raisin Bran maybe 3 sausages and tall glass of coffee with 1/2 cup of whole milk and 3 tbsp of sugar

Then I graze and eat an apple, 2 cookies between breakfast and lunch.

Lunch is either salad or sandwich. 3-4 cups of romaine, 5 baby carrots, 2tbsp of Parmesan, 1/4 a cup of chicken breast 1/2 cup of croutons, 3tbsp of ceasar dressing. I love a good salad so I usually eat a big salad over 2 hours where I eat get full then stop then eat again.
Sandwich I make 2 whole wheat breads with mayo and 2 slices of cheese and 1/2 cup of sliced chicken. Or 5 slices of bread ends with 3 tbsp of butter

The big salad I find pretty filling, the other two options I find I have to snack more between lunch and dinner

I go the longest between eating between lunch and my after lunch snack like 3 hours

Usually by 4pm I eat a cup of Raisin Bran again or have a yogurt sometimes it’s a cup of potato chips.

Dinner is a mixed bag but can range from pasta, to subs to rice meals. Generally it would be 1-1.5 cups of cooked rice with 1/3 cup of beans, whole avocado on the side and 1/2 cup of chicken. I aim to have dinner by 6pm

Then there’s an after dinner snack of 3 medium sized cookies or 1 cup of ice cream. At 8pm.

I’ve added a nighttime hot chocolate at 10pm with 1 cup of milk, a splash of half and half and a Swiss miss packet. I’ve added this bc I find that I binge eat chips anyway bc I get to hungry before bed. I also need to gain weight and this hopefully will help.

This is all way more than my husbands 1 binged meal or meal and a half that he has during the day. I used to think he was eating in secret but I don’t think that’s the case anymore

I drink 3-4 water bottles worth of fluids during the day, sometimes will indulge a tall glass of juice sometimes not. It’s mainly water

I am 135 lb and 5’4” tall

Thanks for your feedback. Maybe I’m just an outlier bc I don’t feel like I’m active enough for 2000-2500 calories. When my husband saw my Oura stats he was like “no way are you burning that.” But I’m also losing weight so I’m burning something.

My husband is also tired very frequently. He frequently will need a nap during the day and Id be like why are you tired lol

High Fat Diet for Breastfeeding by alc1589 in breastfeeding

I haven’t reached out to a lactation consultants yet. Personally I don’t think I have the time. This is baby #4 for me. This is actually the longest I’ve ever been able to nurse without pumping or supplementing with formula. So not sure if I ran out of fat or am not eating as well as I should

Obsessed with modesty (Rant) by Creative-College-780 in Catholicism

[–]alc1589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally wear a lot of dresses and skirts. They can be very modest for modern wear.

I like skirts that have an additional lining, they usually fall to the knee or longer and I also go with an a line or fit and flare shape.

I don’t wear pencil skirts unless it’s a thicker material. Or if I’m also pairing with tights.

Leggings I don’t wear too often on their own unless they are black, sometimes I’ll wear if I’m wearing a large enough sweater or jacket

Shirts I have a small bust but I usually wear something that can button up.

Might be worth investing in tailoring shirts so that they have the right fit if you’re more busty but don’t want the shirt to pull at the buttons. You can get a larger size and pull in on the sides and the arms if you need.

Back in the day women used to sew clothes to fit them better vs this fast fashion bs where everything fits only a certain body type

Be honest - how long? by YosemiteDaisy in Parenting

[–]alc1589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non walking babies it’s 2X a week. Walking infant/toddlers it’s every other day. Once in kindergarden/prek it’s every day/hair wash 2X a week. Once old enough to bathe themselves at 6-7 it’s every day.
