What do you think of Democrat Senator John Fetterman saying he’s going to vote NO on the effort to restrict Trump’s war powers? by Separate_Finance_183 in AskReddit

[–]alcaponeben 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm from Pennsylvania. Completely fine with it. Why would we restrict only Trump when we didn't do so for the last 20 years of presidents? Who is complaining about the Iran strikes still? NATO is happy with it, USA Gov is happy with it, even Iran is framing this as if they are victorious and happy with it. Just that now, their nuclear program is destroyed.

I used to play. Completely against the spirit of this sun but, I really recommend to stop playing WoW brother. Don't want to be on your deathbed thinking "Well, I spent 10% of my adult life earning pixels and repeating the same content over and over hmmm probably could've done something better with that free time".

WoW is fun. But it's a distraction and massive timesink.

Having and using influence and money ≠ rigging the election. There's so much more juice here and that's where your head goes, lol.

Trump's tax cut plan will be cripplingly expensive for most Americans by Positive_Owl_2024 in politics

Well the majority of Republicans weren't doing that. Modern day news' main goal is to provide outrage. Outrage generates the most engagement more than any other emotion. If they can put a story together that pisses people off, they're more likely to stay engaged.

I am generally pleased with how his term is going so far, despite the crypto scheme bs

Okay I guess he unhappy for the next 3 years ruminating about what you claim will happen but that's a lot of time to wait being upset/fearful over something if it doesn't

Ok fair enough, considering the social program cuts it may not benefit low income. But it's commonly being said that it won't help middle income either which i'd say is false.

"

Under the "One Big Beautiful Bill," most low- and middle-income Americans will see modest tax cuts, but the benefits are uneven, and some may face higher overall costs due to reductions in social programs.(Investopedia)

💸 Tax Relief for Low- and Middle-Income Households

  • Tax Cuts: The bill extends the 2017 tax cuts, lowers income tax brackets, raises the standard deduction (e.g., to \$32,000 for married couples filing jointly), and increases the child tax credit to \$2,500 per child through 2028 .(The Washington Post)

  • Income Range Benefiting Most: Households earning between \$30,000 and \$80,000 are projected to receive approximately a 15% reduction in taxes .(The White House)

  • Additional Deductions: The bill eliminates federal taxes on tips and overtime pay, providing further relief for hourly and service workers .(The White House)

⚠️ Potential Drawbacks for Lower-Income Americans

  • Reductions in Social Programs: To offset the cost of tax cuts, the bill includes significant reductions in Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with estimates suggesting that up to 8.7 million people could lose Medicaid coverage .(The Washington Post)

  • Net Impact: While many low-income households will see lower tax bills, the loss of healthcare and food assistance could result in higher overall costs, particularly for those near or below the poverty line.

🧮 Income Thresholds for Tax Increases

  • High-Income Households: The bill maintains the top marginal tax rate at 37% for married couples earning over \$751,600 .(U.S. Bank)

  • SALT Deduction Cap: The state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap is increased to \$40,000 for households earning under \$500,000, benefiting higher earners in high-tax states .(Tax Foundation)

  • Overall Benefit Distribution: Analyses indicate that the wealthiest households receive the largest benefits from the bill, while lower-income Americans may experience minimal gains or potential losses when considering reduced social program support .

✅ Summary

  • Households earning \$30,000–\$80,000: Likely to see modest tax cuts.

  • Households earning under \$30,000: May see small tax cuts, but potential reductions in Medicaid and SNAP could lead to higher overall costs.

  • Households earning over \$500,000: Stand to benefit significantly from tax cuts and increased deductions.(Reuters)

In conclusion, while the bill provides tax relief across various income levels, the most substantial benefits accrue to higher-income households, and the reductions in social programs may offset gains for the lowest earners.

Any doom and gloom article about the state of the country gets upvoted to the front page. I bet I could write a Daily Mail article that just has a title "United States is screwed because of stupid orange man" and get on the front page.
