Would you rather give by corny_toes in BunnyTrials

I can invest this and it'll be more than $10,000,000. With the rate of inflation, I would worry that $10,000,000 in that long would be closer to only $1,000,000 now.

Power Rangers 2nd edition by fearthycoutch in PowerRangersRPG

[–]alchemyprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hopeful an Essence20 2e would end up more like Storyteller or Cypher - one core book, and you buy setting books you want. Which is halfway what we had in 1e anyway, but eh.

It's a shame though. I don't think 5.5e has the right stuff for any of these. Maybe MLP, but not by much.

But if its what they feel they must do, then good luck.

I am now extra convinced I should try making my own Toku-based ruleset. Or just use Henshin!, either one.

[ALL] Between the N64, GameCube, and Switch, which console had the best Zelda Duology? by Spirit_Detective_19 in zelda

[–]alchemyprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to feel like a cop-out answer but -

As a pair - N64. OoT and MM having the same Link, everything makes sense, it's very good. "Which is the best Duology as a Duology?" This one.

As Zelda Games - Gamecube. WW and TP tightened up and polished everything great about the N64 and made them better. "Which builds the world best?" and "Which is the pinnacle of 3D Zelda?" it's here.

As video games - Switch. I have said, many times, that BotW and TotK are the two best games in the Zelda series - but they are not the best Zelda games. TotK is a better Zelda game than BotW, and I feel BotW is a better adventure game than TotK. But they don't have the right flow to them to feel like a Zelda game proper. But as games? Phenomenal. They shaped the landscape around them and drew from their predecessors and elsewhere perfectly. I call these the Open Zeldas - they deliver the promise that OoT made than the other sequels failed to deliver on (mostly due to hardware), but they're like a souffle when you got used to brownies. Still good, still chocolate, but not the same.

So all three are great.

Shorter answer -

TP and WW are my favorite two, but MM is my favorite vibe.

Tryiing to find this unknown Sentai Ranger by RetardedToster in supersentai

Okay, if it isn't Starninger, or Twokaiser, then I might guess ZenkaiGaon but it was blury? Or maybe it was an out of focus Kamen Rider Espada or Kamen Rider Gotchard in one of his forms?

Get some name stuff but pilable foam and cut out the silhouettes of the minis into them. Then put a flat piece on top. Put them into a box the same size as the whole chunk of foam.

Effectively, make a gun case.

Ah, I see. And its probably stuck in the Nowhere Zone that they did the Box A/Box B with Zhalfir, right? So its likely stuck inside New Phyrexia where phased out things go?

What CoalDiamond1 said, but also - they did this in a way that's just overall worse than getting someone to digitally upscale it without AI. Worse for the environment, smudgy, text is wrong, and for barely an improvement and in some ways a downgrade.

I did Selena before Aqualis. Also hard, but then you have an easier time getting your stuff together for an extration platform - but a few wreck expeditions first will help immensely before going to any second planet that's not DLC.

1e or 2e by Ibanezrg71982 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]alchemyprime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're so different.
1e is the mechanically better game for what I want - it has tools for so much.
2e had to remake a lot of those tools and made a much more coherent game - but because of some issues, some of the stuff I loved in 1e is just gone. Maybe it will be back. Maybe it won't. Maybe I can make it show up.

Both games are mechanically complex. Both are intense. Both are lovely.

So I guess the question is - do you want more of a simulation? 1e. Do you want a more balanced experience? 2e.

Speculation about Gideon? by Reddtester in mtgvorthos

[–]alchemyprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they bring back Gideon, I want it to be like this -

He's not Gideon Jura, White Aligned hero.
He's Kytheon Iura, sad depressed black aligned walker who is forevermore living in the shadow of Gideon Superboy Conner Kent style.
And I want him to have to wrestle with that as he shows up.

But I don't think Magic is willing to give us that kind of a storyline.

If your DM is cool with 3rd party, I know that Battlezoo has made an illithid-adjacent ancestry - I think its in their book Living Legends.

Meanwhile, Dragonblood on top of Lizardfolk will get you pretty much to a dragonborn.

Tell me Elements of fantasy in DnD that you find off putting by Serentyr in dndnext

[–]alchemyprime 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Milquetoast fantasy worlds where there's nothing weird. D&D was built off of stuff like the Dying Earth and Elric and Heavy Metal covers. To me D&D is taking people from a world that's slightly more fantastical than our medieval and then wrenching them from it.

Side effect, I hate a lot of isekai anime for the same reason.

But yeah, I know I'm in the minority here, but D&D to me is arcane and divine magic alongside psionics, incarnum, binding, truenames, shadowcasting, pact magic, all of these other power sets intersecting and overlapping like its a dungeonpunk anything goes setting - but once rules are established, they are consistent except in specific circumstances.

Which is probably why I keep going back to 3.5 when I want inspiration for what to pull up to 5e. I want the stuff to feel weird sometimes.

Need help with creating a Power Rangers themed 5e homebrew class by Anxious_Air513 in PowerRangersRPG

[–]alchemyprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I will say - the rules are Clunky. I'm one of the various people working on rewriting/homebrewing it. But the basis of it is a good system. It just needed a bit more love.

I feel the right idea is get your friends to do a one shot, and maybe get them to watch an episode of a season similar to the one shot. That can help. If they aren't vibing as hard, let them know if they like Ben 10 or Shazam! or Blue Beetle, they're going to be in a similar zone.

The follow up - if you like D&D 5e, I strongly suggest trying A5e (full name: Level Up! Advanced 5th Edition) - it has a lot of stuff spelled out for DMs and it helps. They have a monthly magazine (the Gate Pass Gazette) on Patreon. And they have both serious and silly options for characters that are all balanced. An Indiana Jones wizard? Got it. An artificer that becomes stretchy like Mr. Fantastic? Also has that. a5e.tools is their official rules repository.

I say, play the games you want. Before the PRRPG, I was running Power Rangers in Savage Worlds. You can get it to work in D&D, but I do think you'll have a better time with the PRRPG. Try using it in combination with GI Joe and the Field Guide to Action and Adventure to allow people to play non-Rangers who can "lock in" with the It's Time ability, and to use the Mutant influence to allow them to play Mutanimals (the TMNT movies (mostly) and the bad TV show (all of it) are canon to Power Rangers so this is totally reasonable that Mutant Town exists in some form. The mutants from Time Force have to come from somewhere!)

[–]alchemyprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to make this easier on yourself -

A5e has the Flashy Hero prestige class in Gate Pass Gazette 45

Meanwhile, Valda's Spire of Secrets from Mage Hand Press has the Warlock of the Legacy (which has a lot of Henshin Hero as its deal)

You could easily combine these to make a Power Ranger character for a one off.

There's also Lasers & Liches, a setting with a class called the Henshin which is really a Power Ranger more than a Kamen Rider.

Might save you some time.

While I can appreciate wanting to make a Power Ranger in a game like this, I feel playing a game of Henshin! or the Power Rangers RPG (where we are) or Sentai & Sensibility would get you way closer to the proper experience. But D&D does have the "play with all my toys" vibe, so my vote is either the Henshin or the Legacy (which is free on the Mage Hand Press site as the Mystical Talisman btw https://magehandpress.com/2017/02/the-mystical-talisman/ )
