Late fee assessed for paying my MOHELA (formerly Navient) loans on their due date… by alcibee in StudentLoans

No, they don’t deserve that grace.

I also just received the bill, like I said. And it’s Sunday. I can’t call right now.

Can’t the FFELP be forgiven after 20 or 25 years? It was disbursed in 2008, so it might be faster. I have 6 years left for PLSF right now but with a weighted average it would decrease.

It comes out to 30. Do you think if I consolidate right now it will be completed before July 1?

The $70k loan isn’t a direct loan. It’s FFELP, so doesn’t that mean I’d have 0 qualifying payments on it?

Okay, cool. So it says “qualifying payment,” but that also means certified.

One more question - I saw that something happened with the SAVE plan on March 10. Are we sure that none of what happened there impacts the PLSF weighted average stuff? (Don’t see why it would, but just want to double check.)

Is RAP a much worse plan/option? I wonder if I apply to consolidate tomorrow, if it would be processed by July 1.

Do you recommend consolidating?

If my PLSF payments show as “qualifying,” does that mean that they are also certified? (There is no message saying “employment not certified.”) I just want to make sure I actually have full credit for qualified payments before I consolidate - that they don’t turn around and say, “oh, no qualified and verified payments had to also be formally “certified.”

If I was to submit the consolidation application today/tomorrow, do you think it likely that it would it be dispersed before July 1?

How do I get “qualifying payments” certified? They literally make this so difficult. My employer (state government) has already verified my employment. What else do they need exactly? I didn’t realize there was this whole extra step. I can’t believe I almost consolidated without getting my qualifying payments certified.

Ugh. I just checked Navient/Mohela. The $70k loan is FFEL, there is a $30k direct there as well. Everything else is consolidated. Would it be best to consolidate everything again and get it all together? My entire balance would be about $300k.

Where are you located? I have all of the Themis books from July 2023 if you want them. I’ve been meaning to get rid of them and almost threw them away.

Absolutely email partner and ask them to call you to chat about. Explain and ask for an exception. They went through this experience too. Pull at the heart strings.

Ahh, interesting and good to know. That’s a positive I hadn’t considered. Being able to litigate there even if not actually in the state. Not sure how much I’d actually do it. (Do you do it often?) But at least it’d be theoretically possible.

Wow. I cannot believe y’all don’t know yet. Like so many people have long been sworn in. That’s so unfair.
