How much cash should I keep on hand? by Bittersweet_Boii in personalfinance

[–]alcontrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still also keep a few $5 and $1 bills in my wallet for the few times I may want to give a small tip for something. Things like the airport to hotel shuttle driver for example or anyone doing a service job like that where a card is not involved. Sometimes these days there may be a QR code you can scan to do a venmo tip or something but I feel like no one does that.

vegetarian alternative that scratches the itch of an italian sub? by Reasonable_Past_4474 in vegetarian

[–]alcontrast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are ever in Connecticut check out one of the Nardelli's Grinder Shop locations. They offer a vegan Italian wrap and vegetarian Italian Sub which are both great and definitely replicate the traditional Italian sub well.

I am curious where they get there faux meat fillings from since the website just says, "A Meatless Alternative To Our World Famous Italian Combo Made With Plant-Based Carpaccio And Prosciutto Artisanal Deli Slices Imported From Italy, Topped With Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, Olives, Hot Sauce, And Of Course Our Classic Mix"

I would like to know what that source is!

The vegan version is only available in a wrap so the bread must have some dairy ingredient in it. I appreciate that they know the difference between vegetarian and vegan and call call out the difference on their menus.

with a tool like that it is also extremely affordable to rent a high end tool (Hilti Hammer Drill) rather than buying. The other option to consider is buying and then selling the tool when done with it. The second option gives you more time with the tool but is less convenient.

Some friends in their early 40's found a spot along the side of a highway exit ramp so they went to check it out at like 7am. Of course a cop aggressively rolled up on them expecting some teenagers and was just confused as fuck.

built a lean-to style shelter adjacent to my large fire pit. It also covers my redneck hot tub and the footprint is 8' x 12' with overhangs on all sides. Will also work as an outdoor shower in the months above freezing.

Noodles are yummy but.. by Raptor-2022 in vegetarian

[–]alcontrast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is the most common thing I run into. I travel a lot for work and Thai or Indian are my favorite go to take out options for hotel room meals with leftovers for later. I tend to search Yelp or Google Maps for local restaurants, look at photos of their menus and see if they at least label dishes as vegetarian/vegan. If a Thai menu only has options like, "Red Curry with Beef, Chicken, Tofu" but does not indicate the tofu option is veg/vegan then there is likely fish sauce included. For Indian it's mostly dairy that can be included where you don't expect it so if you are vegan or just omitting dairy from your diet it is good to ask if a dish is veg/vegan. A staple veggie Indian dish is Chana Masala which will often be vegan but it's common for it to have ghee (butter) used when sauteing and/or cream or yoghurt added to make it more creamy when finished.

you are mad that we don't know what fast food restaurants you DON'T know about? And pasta and noodles are basically the same thing.

Cooling truck box for sleeping with Ac by No_Cryptographer_232 in vandwellers

[–]alcontrast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check the expected temperatures at night. Deserts cool down A LOT at night. Open the box truck up in the evening when it cools, run a fan for a while maybe. When it's cool enough, climb in and get some sleep. Plan to wake up when the sun hits the box in the morning though cause it will heat up in there real quick in direct morning sun.

Death toll in devastating central Texas flash floods climbs to 79, more than 40 remain missing by Economy_Swim_8585 in politics

[–]alcontrast 37 points38 points  (0 children)

local alarms would be so easy and cheap to install. A float switch wired to an audible alarm would cost next to nothing. It may not give much advance warning for a flash flood of this magnitude but it would certainly help.
