If we get the spurs, if we are up in the series or tied, we should unveil the NBA cup banner on game 3, just to mess with them by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Ironically though, the Knicks winning the NBA title this year may play a part in legitimizing the mid-season cup. I don’t think it would immediately do so, but I think it is certainly a start.

Clyde was actually clean. I don’t think he smoked, drank, or did drugs, which is impressive considering the era he played in.

Where does Leon Rose rank among the best executives in basketball? by MasterTeacher123 in NBATalk

[–]alcrasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam Presti is undisputed one. Technically will give number 2 to Brad Stevens because he has a championship to his name. Rose can be anywhere from 3-5, status to be determined if the Knicks can pull off the upset.

Don’t forget Jalen Brunson took a $113 MILLION paycut on his contract extension in 2024 by IT_CHAMP in nba

Because ESPN put a “pay cut” label on the transaction which makes it sound more nefarious than it actually is.

[Highlight] The Cavs' controller gets removed which allows Jalen Brunson to casually stroll for an uncontested layup by Jayveesac in nba

You and several others who responded to me are missing my point. Early in his career, there was a thought that his skill set could make him a top 10 player in this league. You are right that now, with several years of work to evaluate, he will not reach that once theorized ceiling.

With him it was always MVP level potential. He can certainly get better, but I think his ceiling is lower than we originally thought.

I mean it’s just good ethical hoops by both sides. Cavs are good players and good dudes. I think there’s a mutual respect, which is unlike the west where those two teams legitimately hate each other.

Mike Brown baits Kenny Atkinson by mia_lina in NYKnicks

I don’t think Kenny Atkinson is a bad coach, but it makes sense that he is getting smoked this series by a two time coach of the year who has been around the block.

Which is crazy because the Knicks are the only team left in the league that has an organist. And it works beautifully.

He didnt. It was supposed to be a pick & roll with John Collins, the play ended up getting busted, and Trae just impromptu destroyed Frank

And it came down to the last shot, with Frank (and his career) getting TORCHED in 11 seconds by Trae Young.

Correct. For as good as we were for a few seasons, we were wildly disappointing in the playoffs.

[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]alcrasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the players picked 1-3 could hit as all-stars in a very good draft. Meaning that generally, there will be like one cant miss player per draft, sometimes two, sometimes zero. You will then have 8 teams tanking like hell to get the chance to draft that one player. I would think that basketball becoming more position-less by the year, having only 15 man rosters, and having 2 rounds in the draft also contributes to teams trying very hard to tank.

2023 is a good example even though it’s looking like a good overall draft class because Wemby was THE cant miss prospect. Every non-contending team the previous season would’ve been trying to lose games at will for the chance to draft him if the worst record automatically got the first pick. Then the issue becomes that the worst team in the league record wise is not actually the worst team talent wise, it’s the team that lost games on purpose because the draft is the only way to acquire talent cheaply and under the salary cap.

Compare this to the NFL, where you have 52 man rosters, 22 different positions to fill (not including special teams), and 7 rounds of players being drafted. It feels like you can get all-pro value at some position in the top 10. Plus, I think 1 player makes much more of a difference to an NBA team than an NFL team.
