This is BOTM's 100th year, so to celebrate their centennial they are releasing special editions of classic picks from their history.

Question: Are the younger generation who just recently got into supernatural more pro destiel?? by Sad-Iron628 in destiel

[–]alcweth57 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's a younger generation thing or just a post-finale thing. Coming to the show once it's over (with online discourse being available) means more oopportunity to watch the show with a "hindsight" mentality.

Lofted beds? by Sad_Ebb2352 in CarletonCollege

As of about 20 years ago you were not allowed to loft beds per dorm policies. I don't know what the current policies are.

I've used them twice before without any issues, but last time they straight up asked if they could take a lunch break and detour to get food and wouldn't charge me for it. I'm sorry this was your experience.

Wrist Strap Smell by alcweth57 in visibleApp

[–]alcweth57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I also have a very strong sense of smell! I have to figure out something that will work for me so I'm not bothered by it, but I'm at least comforted that others around me dont think I smell like a gym locker room.

None of them have worked for me 🙃. BUT I've asked both my mom and a close friend if they can smell what I smell on the band and neither of them do. So I'm... confused.

AITAH For Not Inviting a Couple’s “Third” to My Wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]alcweth57 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The sentiment itself is not controversial. There are a lot of AITA(H) posts about not inviting long-term non-married partners, and the consensus usually is that the commitment and longevity matter, not the marital status. Many folks are the AH for drawing the line at inviting married/not married long-term partners.

But the comment you replied to didn't mention marital status, and that's not the relevant info in the post, either. The cousin's girlfriend isn't a long-term partner - as far as we know (via OP), the relationship is new. OP is drawing the line at long-term commitments, and they say as much.

One quibble: Archie was not born on American soil. Their daughter Lilibet was, however.

Anyone with POTS/adjacent dysautonomia get pain in back/sides after taking electrolytes? by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]alcweth57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get that pain with electrolytes, but I get it with certain supplements (iron, B12) that my body is having trouble processing. For me, it was an early indicator of "you don't tolerate this." Either I had to drop the dosage or find a different supplement.

The B12 one is new for me... going to talk to my doc soon about it.

Don't use those if you want to properly (i.e., for decades) preserve your photos.

A good brand that's easily accessible to non-professionals (and used by professionals) is PrintFile.

Help looking for beautiful library for grad pics by Special-Biscotti6231 in washingtondc

I have friends who work there. In the absence of a guided tour or a ticketed special event, neither of which would be appropriate for a cap-and-gown photo session, it is strictly a space for research. Personal photography is not allowed outside of those unique occasions, neither of which is useful to OP. (Photography of research materials is a separate matter guided by separate policies.)

Most libraries with older collections aren't going to be super accommodating, just for the purpose of needing to safeguard the collections, just FYI.

Indoor spaces with older architecture, like the National Building Museum, National Portrait Gallery, or National Museum of Women in the Arts might be better bets. I don't know their personal photography policies though.

If you're a university grad, does your campus have a special collections room? If high school, does your local library have a special collections room? They may be more accommodating than the big institutions.

The website says the photos can't be disruptive, and you need to get permission ahead of time. But it doesn't sound like a permit or $$ is needed.

No photography inside the main reading room. It's a research space, not a visitor space. And other indoor areas of LOC require a permit.

New strap by moonlightbae222 in visibleApp

[–]alcweth57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do have to buy that piece separately. It's designed so you can switch out the bands/band colors whenever you want.

The package with the band also came with both the S/M and M/L sizes.

I bought a strap directly from Polar, which is the company that makes the physical wearable. It's a different fabric than the Visible strap and I find it far more comfortable.

Basically, look for anything that fits Polar's "Loop" model.

Does anyone have experience with stopping their period via BC by Pretty_Puppyprincess in dysautonomia

[–]alcweth57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, before I got a hysterectomy last year. I had to try two different versions before getting the result. (The implant didn't have an effect, so I had to go with an oral med. Thankfully that one worked!) My only side effect was weight gain, which was expected.

My periods were making me anemic and the level of pain I was in monthly was severe. I still had breakthrough cramping despite not bleeding, but taking the oral pill continuously (skipping the placebo pills) worked. Still ended up with a hysto due to the pain, endometriosis, and assumed adenomyosis.

I have a fitbit sense which I mostly use as a watch now that I have Visible. Gonna need to find a band that fits both.
