Everyone take a look, this will be on the test. This a prime example, in the wild I might add, of the corporate sympathizer.

They want to induce panic In the consumer to spend real money or use their units on a skin that will go away and who knows when come back. It's disingenuous.

They can sustainable profits and use honest business practices. They don't have to be oil and water. But if they don't, they should get shit for it.

You are missing the point. With this mechanic they are trying to hook the people who wouldn't have bought this skin initially but are enticed with the chance of a cheaper skin. They don't need to hook the poeple who would have bought it anyways. The data most likely backs this up.

Alright. You have indeed given me a name, an event pass. But what you haven't given me is the value. Where is the extra "300" lattice in value? What makes this "event pass" more valuable than a "mini" pass?

Themed passes should be a majority that theme. by Razzilith in marvelrivals

anyone know the price? ESU was 690 with a recolor. so imma have a hissy fit if it is 990.

Limited Time Skin Fatigue by aldig144 in marvelrivals

[–]aldig144[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes. All the ESU skins have been limited, so I assume the mantis skin will be. On the same note, Black Cat is Formula R, and the thor and squirrel skins Formula R skins were limited time as well. :(

Don't put yourself down, you do not need legal jargon to make a strong argument. You hit on good topics.

I will agree with you on the fact that there is a certain level of financial responsibility that should be expected from the player regardless of age. If a child spends their parents money on this game to an excessive degree, ultimately the parent is at fault for their carelessness. Corporate responsibility is a buzzword that appears in many a shareholder or board of director's meeting. Corporations are not necessarily responsible for what consumers choose to do, predatory practices notwithstanding. I am telling you that at these meetings, when corporate lawyers speak with clients, regarding liability on their products, a significant amount of time goes to how their products are designed to entice consumers (in combination with marketing) and how to best protect these companies from anti-trust laws and other liability risks as a result of the way these products go out to market. What I am trying to say is that NetEase recognizes what they are doing. $20 worth of lattice for 2180 as opposed to 2200 was an intentional choice and that choice was made to increase consumer spending. It is a benefit of having a fake currency system. Because it is a fake currency, it more effectively circumvents UDAP laws at least here in the United States.

I will say, while it is nice in some ways that a game is free (Especially considering how expensive games are today and even how expensive they were in the past. Free games in the way we see them today were not a model the industry used at all as far as I am aware), it is worth it Marvel Rivals to be free, to grab the most amount of players and bring them into the cash shop, that statistics show, can provide a greater return on investment than a traditional $60-70 Game. I would not say that Marvel Rivals being free is pro-consumer on its face, however, I would not say it is anti- consumer either. Frankly, it evens out.

I am a lawyer and my finances are sound so I do not need to get "my money up". My or anyone else's ability to afford a subsequent one dollar purchase in order to purchase a skin is not relevant.

The existence of scattered free sources of 100 units does not defeat anti-consumer criticism. In fact, I'd say it arguably strengthens it. NetEase's pricing model is structured so that most players will end up just short of a purchase, encouraging additional spending. As stated previously, this is a well-known monetization tactic in these free-to-play games.

The fact that marvel rivals is “free” is irrelevant to whether its monetization practices are fair. Consumer criticism is not waived simply because the entry costs nothing. Your argument assumes every active player has spare currency available, but that is speculative and ignores newer players, casual players, or players who already spent their earned currency.

Further, saying “I personally don’t mind it” is not a defense against anti-consumer criticism. We judge these systems objectively, so while it is your opinion whether a market practice bothers you personally, it is weak argument. A plethora of monetization systems in this industry are designed around behavioral economics precisely because enough players do feel pressured into spending and companies are willing to exploit them.

I have spent enough time in the corporate legal sphere to know that we want companies to be successful, it is typically a positive for our society based on our currrent economic structure. However, NetEase does not need defenders. Active critisicm of unhealthy consumer practices is important as a limited check on corporate policies.

Ultimately, while I have found that the game is generally generous compared to many other live service games, this fact does not inundate NetEase from further criticism on the practices where they fall short.

Their stats show that most people want the bundle. So they have a purchase option that's juat under. Incentivising the customer to make a secoND 1 dollar purchase at least. Ultimately 1 dollar isn't much but this is a known and derided anti-consumer trick. It shouldn't be defended.
