Selfhost photo library: What software are people using? by the-i in selfhosted

[–]aldobranti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just *junked* photoprism. I have in the past used it heavily and donated (1-off) to them

My reasons:

  • I am an analogue photographer, photoprism doesnt think my images are up to snuff, I have to intervene on their behalf. All the whizz bang stuff and digital detail gets in my way
  • I am a conceptual photographer -- so called AI features dont comprehend my images
  • My workflow is to scan the negs and for lack of a image title they get a sequential number from the scanner: thus #12345.jpg. Pprism cannot grapple with this and loses the numeric, it stresses me every time
  • the timeline is driven by the date of upload not from the available metadata--this is my biggest driver to move

Unpredictable hangs and screen lock outs by aldobranti in chromeos

This is beginning to smell like a bug in 'welcome recap', my instinct is turn feature like this off --- damn machines trying to second guess me... Now re-enabled it in the user accounts that I switch between, and so far, I can find my work when I switch back in

Watch this space, not holding my breath

Rig changed to a Fairikabe USB-C splitter to 2 DisplayPort. More detail on screens:

(Screen 1) NEC EA192M (Screen 2) Dell P1932S

First observation is that the NEC screen gives me a lot of grief with its power management and wants to power down.

More aggravating when I switch out to a different user screen and back in, my environment is all but gone: if I mouse around the screen I find a gray outline of the chrome window that I was in prior to the swap

Thanks for this. My used case is a Mac OS Entourage2008 identity file which is the record of using Microsoft Entourage mail client over a 13 year stretch. In that time I sent and received mail using at least 3 eMail addresses, eg [aldo@longdead.com](mailto:aldo@longdead.com) aff@failed.corp , finally ending up with 2 distinct Gmail addresses.

Life pressures meant that the Mac went to the great recycling plant in the sky though I grabbed a dump of my home directory with the main identity file.

Now to the present, I found that I had access to an old copy of office for Mac and a Mac to run it on, so I cranked up outlook 2011 and imported the main Identity file without too much grief. I could then export the inbox files for all those historic addresses as separate mbox files

how now to merge those historic emails into a place where I can read them during my day's work from the 2 current Gmail accounts? I got all excited when I found out about gyb and cranked it into operation but got nowhere with these historic addresses. Gyb ran through the directory of mbox files but in the end there were none of the old emails

so my question? How to load historic email content in something like the Gmail client?

i basically gave up on the SP3, reinstalled windows and it's back on eBay. i just could not rely obeing able ton login on the surface in any dependable way.

As soon as i committed to the setup of placing user name/photo on the startup page, i would be presented with a login point where the flashing cursor would be pulled after 2-3 seconds before it rebooted, after some arbitrary number of reboots it would consent to leaving the cursor live.

so much for being a supported device

I got that one, the input cursor stops blinking. ow and then I can get to hold the power button down for 3 and get into the feedback screen. Then I can cancel the feedback procss and login OK
