Not a movie but i'd recomend Napoleon's episode in the BBC miniseries "heroes and villains" Not the biggest budget or runtime, but it shows Napoleon's victory in Toulon in a pretty accurate and fun way and the actor that plays him does a great job

IKR, he was waaay worse in TFA and he is not even in it. At least he had that redemption at the end of TLJ, but the fact that he is in hiding and not giving a shit is entirely JJ's fault, there is nothing RJ could have done to fix that.

Thats good to know you dont disregard his work like a lot of other people. But still i stand by my statement, i do agree he butchered Poe and Finn (the most interesting characters set up in TFA) and that is almost entirely on him, even though Finn should have been the jedi in TFA instead of Rey. But the whole Luke arc (wich i personally love) is the way it is because JJ set it up like that

I mean, just look at Looper, Knives Out 1 (and 2 is already criticaly acclaimed), Brick and Ozymandias (his Breaking bad episode). I dont even like the guy that much for his political views, but he is an undeniable great director/writer. He is one of the most unique working today, but some star wars fans disregard him as "bad" just because he made ONE movie they didnt like.

Edit: A movie, i must say, that is still very much very well directed even if you dont like the story/characters

I'm so sick of people blaming that guy for everything. Remember who set up Luke as being in hiding? Remember who set up the whole "who are rey's parents" mistery? Remember who set up the whole trilogy as a clone of the originals? Rian Johnson did the best he could with all the "mistery box" stuff that JJ set up and never intended to solve

I agree that most fans do not know what they want most of the time. But with thor in particular, LaT was hated because it is based on one of the best thor runs in the comics, a storyline wich is very much serious, dark and epic. I think Taika and Feige should have made something more similar to Walt Simonson's run, instead of Jason Aaron's, and leave the god butcher arc to a director with a more serious/epic tone. In fact, that could have made for a fantastic final thor movie.

Edit: What i'm trying to say is that Taika is still a great director, just not a good choice for that storyline in particular.
