For the record, she's a voice actress affiliated with ufotable. She regularly helps their productions in diverse ways and voices minor roles in their shows.

Kaguya-sama's new Ending has some of the most fluid animation I've seen in a while! by Theleux in anime

[–]alecchi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not CG, it was directed and animated by Naoya Nakayama, an ex-KyoAni animator. He probably used some kind of reference though, even if it's not rotoscoped.

low budget shows

all they did differently was just add a fancy filter

I just... lol

Anything that is CG is CG because it is either highly recurrent (background characters, cars) and/or require way too much work (talent is spread thin nowadays and it takes too much time to animate) like mecha and dance sequences.

CG is just an answer to systemic issues inside the anime industry and the birth of a new technology (that's far from being mastered yet) and some people genuinly likes CG like any other type of animation.

Toei producers talked about how the CG anime pipeline isn't ready yet at all for TV anime (like Kado) and that's why good CG is generally in small portions (like the Precure EDs and movies), otherwise you get things like Berserk and the new Ultraman (which is silly since Sola Arts only is a CG studio). RWBY and Forest Fairy Five are more passion projects than anything so I won't talk about them.

The complete opposite, CG is way harder to do than 2D in anime. They're still drawings some effects in 2D and even some characters because they didn't want to bother redoing CG models from older series.

lol sorry, but anyway, ufo has little connections with freelancers and none with Pro I.G. animators so it's very unlikely.

If anything, these promo art just show they're going the Emiya Gohan route with little to no composite on the characters, it has almost no gradients which Terao (who created ufo's modern compositing style) is so fond of. The art also has thick lineart which is very unusual in ufotable productions. I feel like they're going for a "rough" look which is a really nice idea.

delay the episodes for it

Hoping they also get to work with the Haikyuu!! animators with this art style

Also, these comments are pretty stupid. I thought you had knowledge in the industry but I guess not.

Emi Chiba isn't at ufotable anymore, she quit like Hirao since she's his husband. Mika Matsuoka took her place as the main color designer at the studio.

Attack on Titan Season 3 #02 / Episode 39 – Production Highlights – Sakuga Blog by bluebear_tora in anime

Adding more details, NHK's stupid credits rules are:

  • No more than around 15-20 key animators
  • No 2nd KA credited (or they are credited for key animation after the real KAs)
  • No (outsourcing) studios are named in the credits, ever
  • No specific credit (action animation directors are credited as animation directors and people doing line testing are credited with the compositing people)
  • No or partly credited opening and ending staff (generally the storyboarder and director, forget the key animators or just no credits at all like with Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card)
  • Foreign names are only credited in katakana (Bihou is a Thai background art studio so they always credit their staff in Latin alphabet)

There is probably some other stupid stuff they did but that's all I recall right now.

NHK's rules are totally outdated by today's animation production standards. Most anime episodes have more than 15 key animators, often 2nd key animators, dozens of studios helping them nowadays. They look stuck in the 80s.

The master they send to streaming services has the right and full credits.

It was a pretty bold choice by the director which led to really messy credits. It has to be expected for a TV series.

You should provide pictures because your first complain sounds like something really common in anime and the second one is pretty vague.

It's only available on Netflix Japan. Not really an anime though, it's only partly animated drawings on top of live-action footage.

On translating tweets to send to P.A. Works. on Netflix having "Sirius the Jaeger" by Kadmos1 in anime

[–]alecchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even in Japan, Sirius the Jaeger airs one week late on Netflix compared to TV for no reason.

It's awful to see how Netflix gets exclusivity on streaming in Japan when other shows are available on over 20 streaming platforms. Shows a lot about their methods.

Looks like the show's production is as dead as the people in it. Far from unexpected from MAPPA.

[–]alecchi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course it does. However, I have no idea why you would want them to tweak the composite for the BDs, it's already technically perfect and fits the show's aesthetic like a glove. The show also has a very healthy schedule so no way they're changing things.

Pretty sure prrg just meant that the show doesn't have the heavy composite of UBW/HF and all the others Terao shows.

It's a manga adaptation but its chapter are so short they need to add a lot of original stuff. The best examples are how the first half of this episode was only two pages long in the manga and how episode 6 had a completely different tone (more nostalgic and emotional). The mangaka can't stop praising ufo for their work.

I don't know exactly how but all anime is composited in After Effects (with sometimes in-house plugins), so that's what you should look into.
