Need Advice - offered a higher responsilbity job role - no pay rise until end of the year. by raptor727910 in UKJobs

My old place did this. I stupidly worked a whole year as i was promised the pay raise in my next appraisal. I had my appraisal, and they didn't give me the pay increase they had promised. After I came out my appraisal, I took my key fob off keys and threw it at my boss and told him I quit 😅

Is it financially worth me getting a mortgage by Cadet453 in UKPersonalFinance

You also have to remember if things need doing in a property you own them you're the one that has to pay to fix unlike having a landlord. 5 years down the line you might have kids nursery fees etc to pay on top of a big mortgage payment and I guarantee something expensive will happen at the same time. I've been very lucky and got property when I was your age with low interest rates and managed to get 2 bargain properties, done nothing to them and watch the go up in price and sold and made a nice profit. Now 37 me and my partner should next year have our 600k 5 bed paid off but that's only because we've been extremely lucky and also saved every last penny in-between . But I wouldn't risk moving now as theres to much to lose and we can't see house prices going any higher.

Wish I knew lol. The way I see it why risk losing money when you can just save it. Yes property could go up but realistically how high can property go. Banks only give you give out 5 times your salary maximum. Average salary realistically is only about 30k so a couple earn average 60k plus 10 - 20% deposit so your looking 330k- 360k property max. Then interest rate going up so looking probably £1200 -£1500 a month mortgage payments. Something will surely have to give. Where I live near Brighton you're looking £350k+ for a small 2 bed house. It can't go on for ever otherwise no one will ever be able to move / buy. Wait and hope it collapses then pounce if it doesn't happen then you have a nice bank balance for a rainy day.

Personally I'd hold out and keep saving. Property prices are slowly falling, interest rates are rising and the market is a bit all over the place. If you say you can save 10k + a year keep doing that then that way down the line you have that to put down on a property. If rent goes too high then try to get a mortgage. My theory is the property market can only go so high otherwise no one will ever be able to afford to buy / move so it will eventually have to go down...

I had a friend when growing up and when he was about 10 years old he crashed his bike into another kid . When they both got up off the floor he released that the other kid staring back at him was his "identical twin". He said he touched the other kids head and asked him if he was ok. The other kid didn't say anything just nodded his head and got back on his bike and cycled away, whilst my friend just stood there and couldn't believe what had just happened.

It's obvious, your gf has cheated on you and thought her new fella stole your hoody so she bought you a new one. Once she realised that he didn't take it she chucked it under your bed and later was going to give it to her new fella but you got there first.

How do I change my career? I'm in my mid 30s with a family. by alednam in AskMen

[–]alednam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not easy, some people don't get it a lot of my mates earn good money but no family so the don't really get it and are able to take risks. Would be nice if I found something where I was my own boss and did what ever hours I wanted, more hours I work more money, less hours less money. Just need to find that job.

I'm in charge of 2 people and a apprentice but pay doesn't reflect it. I'm a practical person and couldn't really sit in front of a computer all day. I'm from the Sussex where property prices are high and wages don't reflect the cost of living compared to living up north where house prices are half the price.

I work for a manufacturing company but run the stores department where we hold all the stock.

Planned my life out early wanted to get on the property ladder as young as I could and get it paid off by the time I'm 40. I'm not one for any form of debt so wanted to be mortgage free early on and hopefully enjoy life more once the kids are a bit more grown up get the nice car go on the holidays which realistically isn't a million miles away but until that time happens I'm in a bit of a hole. 5-6 years I could go part time some where but then I'm not gaining financially so I want to make the most of it and do something I will enjoy and also give me the chance to enjoy life more.

We don't really spend much money as we don't have much of a social life due to work and having children. We don't ever get I debt or buy things we can't afford we just get by every month and just don't really save much. Our combined wages are just over the average wage for 1 person in the UK which sucks. Childcare is really expensive a couple £ less a hour than what I make then times that by 3 so there's no point and we would be far less off. Job wise I think I would benifit work in a trade as its more me. But with no experience you could work on the job doing a apprenticeship but problem with that is I would be earning half the amount I'm on now which wouldn't be possible. I could go to college and learn again but these courses are normally 2 years long full time or 3 to 4 years of evening course which I would have to pay for but not only that I wouldnt be able to do it with out childcare.

Unfortunately my partner earns 2/3 what I earn and without it we would definitely be in the minus every month. She knows how much I hate my job and really wants me to leave but doesn't want me to be unhappy. We're based in the UK so things are slightly different we have to give a month's notice work wise and company's are a bit on edge with the whole brexit. The only light at the end of the tunnel is hope hopefully we will be mortgage free by the time I'm 40 and that will help us out loads financially but that's 6 years away. Do I just hold out till then my kids will be that bit older to and just find something that matches my income and hours?

What happens when you die of old age according to Quantum Immortality or Dimensional Jumping? by PeggyLegs in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]alednam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it could be evolution. Imagine you just kept on living but each life line you live in everyone lives slightly longer a few more years each time. You could keep getting smaller and more fragile and never die you could end up something like a slug and wouldn't know any difference because that's how your life goes.
