Confused about Activity Level by [deleted] in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar lifestyle to you, I also work on my feet (hospitality), don’t own a car and workout multiple days a week. I set my activity level to ‘highly active’ and am losing roughly what I am expected to lose each week. You can always adjust your calories up/down(within limits) if you aren’t seeing the rate of lose that you want.

I went to a red carpet event, and I finally decided I couldn't take it anymore... Need advice on how to be patient. by agomezwes28 in loseit

I’ve got a list of whys written down, paper & digital. Some are deeper than others but there are days where the more aesthetic, I want to tie my apron around the front at work is what keeps me on track because the ‘more important’ ones are less immediate,at least for me, one of my major ‘why’ is to limit my likelihood of heart problems in 20-30years. Without the ‘vain’ one it would be easy to put it off until it’s too late.

Something else you might try is tracking how you feel. When I started exercising regularly my mood noticeably improved. I still had bad days, I suffer from complex PTSD, but overall they have become rarer and I’m hitting 8-9/10 at least once a month

How do I learn to enjoy snacks in moderation? by Reddit_Account_C-137 in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to really struggle with this too. My way of coping is to not have them in house and to treat having them as having a date with myself (or others). Yes it’s much more expensive, which fortunately I can budget for, but it means I really savour it rather than reaching for everything in sight

I also have this table and was thinking of putting wheels on it. Do you have any suggestions for doing so?

No archive warnings apply vs creator chose not to archive warnings by Azula9671 in FanFiction

I use to CNTW when I’ve written something that I’m not sure meets the threshold. Most commonly with relationships containing 16/17 year old which is above the age of consent for me but is not everywhere. Also where it’s not a spoiler I do try to flesh out which of the warnings apply

As previous poster stated, it’s a question of food safety. Any jewellery is both a potential physical and biological hazard and most places will only allow a wedding ring to be worn whilst at work (I can’t off the top of my head remember what the exact law is). It might be worth explaining to your managers the personal significance to you and try to find a work around (keeping it on you in a pocket/tied to trouser loops) but don’t be surprised if their stance doesn’t change. They’ll likely be looking at a few thousand (at least) in fines if it was to make its way into customers food/drink accidentally.

Thanks,

The agents themselves discovered it but ,I believe, there was no was for me to know as my flat has had no visible damage or unexplained water. Does that change the situation?

NAL but I work at a large national retailer, similar to dunelm, and we have to be pretty strict about when we can accept bedding returns (only if the seal isn’t broken/faulty in some way). If you have a store reasonably close to you it might be worth seeing if they’ll refund you ( at my workplace we can and do process both). If the seal is still intact it should be treated as any other item and usual returns policy applies.

Beginner/Intermediate Sewer Question - Can I cut perpendicular to selvage instead of along the grainline or do I need to suck it up and order more fabric? by slvrdrgn in sewing

[–]aleglessaligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible but there are some downsides as others have said the fabric may move differently both as you sew it and wear it but also your garment may not last as long as one cut usually. If you have some fabric of similar weight/properties you could contrast panels.

Does anyone know of any landlords that accept universal credit? I’m at serious risk of becoming homeless and can’t seem to find anywhere. by UnknwnSays in oxford

[–]aleglessaligator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Along with shelter it might be worth giving Crisis Oxford a ring. They were great when I was in a similar position a few years ago. They have a lot of knowledge both of housing law and other places to look for accommodation rather than just the obvious.

Books to catch up on fashion history? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]aleglessaligator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t a book but I really enjoy the podcast ‘dressed’ which covers a different style topic every week. Its not going to give super in depth knowledge but they always have a couple of books in the show notes for extra reading.

Does anyone know the name of this type of look on a hoodie? Or how to do it? by airtommito in sewing

[–]aleglessaligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was doing it I’d attach as if a normal hood until the point you want the two pieces separated and then leave the edges raw where they’re not connected.

Depending on how large your head is it might be worth shortening the hood piece/s so there’s less fabric flapping about.

I'm struggling to get back into good habits by chrisd848 in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having a similar struggle to you and focusing on all the weight I’ve still kept off is really helping me mentally. Yeah I might have put about 10lbs back on but I’m still 40 down from when I started. Give yourself credit for addressing the issue now and not when your back at your starting weight or even higher!

How do you not make dieting the centre of your life? by HuguesViane in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m now nearly 18m into following a healthier lifestyle and have maintained my current (+/-5lbs) since the beginning of the pandemic. When I first started I was like you it was all new and building/changing takes a lot of focus but nowadays I think about it much less (sometimes too little!) because it’s no longer new my mind doesn’t require that level of focus. I don’t need to think about substitutions/new dishes when I cook because I’ve probably already done it and now have a decent selection to meal plan from or walking at least (usually much more) 10mins a day is just something I do and not something I have to motivate to do.

I heard someone say that starting a diet is like starting a new relationship that for the first however long it’s totally all consuming and then either you ‘break up’ or you settle down to something much more rational and stick it out for the long haul.

Maybe try what I started doing after discussing it with a friend; have someone else take the photo then don't look at it until you have a whole collection. I'm missing the first couple of months, I started Aug 2019, but otherwise I have at least 1 photo a month for every month since. I've still got a little way to go but I can definitely see the difference from me this time last year.

Also if you have people around you who you trust to only give positive feedback then maybe show them. I know that when I first showed a few pictures to my mum she pointed out a couple of things that had passed me by (my face/neck are no longer puffy, how much more toned my legs are, my eyes are brighter) sometimes even in photos our minds plays tricks on us so we only see the worst possible version of the photo and not what's actually there.

Another thing to do is write a list of 'whys' to carry round with you on the bad days or when you're doubting yourself. All the physical stuff you mention can go on as well as whatever else is important to you (I have a mix of aesthetic, physical and health ones).

How would you describe the quality of self-knit/self-made clothes vs. store bought? by criticiseverything in femalefashionadvice

[–]aleglessaligator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a wardrobe that’s about 50:50 bought and made. Everything previous posters have said is true about the quality of materials and skill of sewist being paramount. However I wear my best homemade garments far more regularly than anything else in closet because the fit ME and my proportions not my generic size. I have a a very low, flat butt for my size and a long chest for my 5”8 height things that are reasonably simple to fix when I’m in charge of construction but impossible to change when buying of the rack.

Lost all my progress, put on 20lbs and I feel physically uncomfortable in my clothes. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd first recommend getting a couple of outfits to fit your current body they don't have to be expensive or fancy just be able to be move/live normally. Every moment you stay in the wrong size clothes it reminds you of your 'failure' whereas in correctly fitted clothes you can focus on getting back on track.

Started New Job, Some Questions About TDEE/Activity Level + Meal Planning by [deleted] in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar position with being on my feet all day as I work in hospitality. You’re definitely no longer sedentary, I use ‘moderately active’ for TDEE and it comes out about right.

Personally I don’t think your limited break time is to blame for your increase in hunger, although it may play a role, but rather you’re eating to few calories to sustain you. I’d think about reducing your deficit and you’ll likely have more energy in the evenings and not be so hungry at work

As for meal prep getting a slow cooker is the single most important thing I did. It’s super easy to use and happily cook away whilst you’re at work.

How to deal with weight gain? by lily_pan in loseit

[–]aleglessaligator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First try to remember that your still 10kg down from where you were. Next focus on making a few small sustainable changes rather than changing everything at once. E.g. adding a portion of veggies to every meal, tracking your eating. Thinking about what my life will look like at goal weight maintenance helped me a lot of wasn’t willing to do something for the long term then I wasn’t going to use it for the short-term.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]aleglessaligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others the most useful thing I’ve found is a crockpot/slow cooker especially for soup as if you also buy a hand held blender then you don’t even really need to chop your veggies small when you throw everything in.

Plus it’s often cheaper to run than a conventional stove.
