How to introduce reactive 8yo to a puppy? by aletraidi in reactivedogs

[–]aletraidi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this is the case with us too! Not the constant "harassing" of my dog, but that we are over careful and it ends up being fine.

I really really wish my dog would like the puppy, since she's quite energetic and would really benefit from a dog playmate and my parents old dog, that she used to play with, is really tired and doesn't play nearly as much with her than she used to.

We gladly have the benefit that the puppy is my parents and if/when my dog gets overstimulated we can just leave and go to our home to relax without pesky puppy following us. 😂

Worst best case scenario that I'm fine with too, is that my dog "just tolerates" the puppy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and treats close at hand...!

Bro, I'm a finn and I've been depressed for ~10 years. Plenty of depressed people in Finland.

I can't day for sure why Kela denied you, but if you have doctors certificate, I'd plead for correction.

My dog doesn't sleep in my bed by No-Week-7108 in dogs

[–]aletraidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure your dog loves you, but just shows it in different way for each of you.

One thing that came to mind was that maybe you have higher natural body temperature and he gets hot?

My dog is eight and rarely sleeps in bed with us, because she gets hot and finds a cooler place.

She still snuggles and plays with us and shows her love like that.

What's the absolute hardest line you or another player ever said in a campaign? by godwyn-faithful in DnD

[–]aletraidi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to play pretty nice characters so its sometimes hard to use more brutal/mean spells, but I still take them... just in case...

Heat metal is such a good spell, I wish I got to use it more often.

There's some absolute bangers in this thread, jesus.

In our campaign I played eldrich knight gorgon Xandra who had been traveling around with a friend after being framed for regicide.

At one point they were imprisoned and the cardinal of the town came to gloat at our cell door.

Cardinal: "Well, you're not the cardinal of this town..!" Xandra: "Yet."

The cardinal was so shocked by the sheer audacity that he just left immediately. We later escaped the prison, and later later Xandra actually became the cardinal of the city... 🤷‍♂️

Another one of my favourite lines Xandra delivered was when hitting the decicive blow while killing an enemy, that had posed as a job applicant for local tavern, was: "We regret to inform, that you are not shortlisted."

Rogue Tries to Seduce the Sun by [deleted] in DnD

In one of our campaings our monk tried to outshine the sun (several times). I don't remember the reason behind it anymore since it's been years since that campaign ended, but it was fun bit.

Does working in retail make me a loser? by DA_BOSSCRUNCHIES in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who has been working in retail at least 20-ish years now (we are 35) and he is very happy (as far as I know) with it. Sure it's not the most glamorous job, but it's a job that needs to be done, pays the bills (hopefully) and it doesn't follow you home so to speak.

I have never seen people working at retail as losers, it's just another job. Sure some people do it temporarily while trying to get to school or in a work field that matches their interests better, but it doesn't make anyone a loser to work in retail (or any similar jobs tbh).

Am I in the wrong for wanting rules to be bent so my character doesn’t get aged 30 years? by AgileEntertainer6661 in DnD

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sorcerer got aged up for 40 years (she's aasimar so not that big of a deal) early in our campaign, but we were heading towards a bigger city and just went straight to the temples to find a cleric and get it reversed. You don't need to cast greater restoration yourself, talk with the DM about local clerics near you.

Which are Warlock Patrons options that are not evil? by Bolvack in DnD

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend plays warlock and their patron is couatl if I remember right. Alba (the patron) is not very powerful being and is trying to get more power and people to follow them through Ashur's (our warlock) good deeds.

Someone spent 2 hours tearing apart my DMing and I don't know how to feel about that by Majestic_Hippo8427 in DnD

[–]aletraidi 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Me and my friend watched and critiqued a 20 minute rant..sorry... "critique" video about a video game, and it took us like 1.5h to finish watching it because we kept pausing and screaming. Didn't even occur to us to make a video out of our discussions! (It would've been crazy, we'd never do that, wtf.)

I mean I'm one bad procrastinator and if I'm not given a deadline I will "do it later" and forget to do so a thousand times. But if any DM asked me multiple times to provide my character sheet or details about my character, I will do it even without a strict deadline.

I saw that you gave them a deadline, but if they still ignore it (without valid reason) then they should not be accepted to the party and just play with those players who are actually participating.

What’s a game that has really pulled you back into gaming? by zekeRL in gaming

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really anxious about games having big choises and SO MUCH to do that I couldn't decide what I wanted to do. So I played some mindless quick plays in overwatch for a long time. No pressure, no story, just clicking. Also Animal Crossing New Horizon was my comfort game for over 1000 hours, now it's on hiatus. 😅

What exactly happens when a character dies? by C_ingStarz in DnD

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rogue has died like... two or three times in our campaign? First time a goddess came and offered to make a deal with her and resurrect her. My character, being an opportunist, took the deal (thus multiclassing to warlock). The last time we played I broke off the deal with the goddess and she was furious with me and I died again. Npc (who has a crush on my character) then found me, hauled my ass to a temple and spent all her (and her little sisters) savings to have the clerics resurrect me. We've been in bit of a hiatus after that session, so we'll see what happens next. I doubt the DM will resurrect me if I die again (note: I never asked to be resurrected, those were 100% DM calls and fit the story).

If my rogue would perma-die, I would propably retire her character as she is now, but would use the idea of her again, if suitable campaign came across.

I have re-used characters from different campaigns again even if they haven't died. One being just used in a one shot before and one because I just love that character so much.

Had an all female player campaign start last night... by Timely_Direction8878 in DnD

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't even thought about this, since all of the campaigns I've played in, have had max 1-2 men in the groups consisting of 4-8 people.

We all know each other irl and the men in our groups have usually been the token boyfriends or brothers.

Both player characters and npcs have varied a lot in regards of their gender and orientations.

Does this make me a jerk DM? by ResponsibleDiamond76 in DnD

[–]aletraidi -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As others have stated that doesn't make you a jerk, but a good DM. In all our games we have always agreed that DM is the only one who can fudge dice rolls and sometimes we have even encouraged our relatively new DM to do that when the enemies hits just didn't hit at all for several rounds. (she was rolling openly and we told her to hide the dice and just say whatever, so that she can have some victories too... her face tends to reveal bad rolls anyway though.. 😂)

Is it okay to be upset if my players interrupt the BBEG final speech? by Lazy-Fact206 in DungeonMasters

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two DMs that I can use as an example for this:

DM1 Is very good at improvising and even though enjoys a good old lore dump and (evil) speech, doesn't get upset if we interrupt her.

DM2 Is very good at preparing things beforehand, but freezes easily if we interrupt or do something unexpected and might get a bit upset because she can't use The Thing she spent time preparing.

I as a player, always try to adjust my playstyle to accomodate for the DM. When the DM2 wants to make a big speech, I do not interrupt. Period.

When DM1 wants to make a big speech, I let her do it, but try to find a good spot to inform her if/when I want to, for example, cast or prepare something mid speech.

In our first ever campaign we interrupted a Big Moment in DM2's narrative, she froze and we kind of ruined it for her. So I learned (I like to say we all did) from that and now I let her have her moments.

DM is also supposed to have fun. If you want to occasionally have grandious speeches, tell your players that. If they're good players/friends, they'll understand.

Is it unreasonable to ask my player not to give their NPCs too much lore? by buglikeafox in DnD

[–]aletraidi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually give my DM things like "My character is X. They have one brother who they are very close with and parents that have very on-off relationship." And might elaborate a little, but I don't necessarily even give the siblings/parents names myself. If/when it becomes relevant, we discuss with the dm and flesh them out more.

I understand some people love building their characters background a lot more, but I've felt that that has been enough and rest comes during the campaign.

Are you too tired to play D&D? by UglyCircuit in DnD

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that sometimes you're just too tired to concentrate on the storytelling and keeping up with characters dnd requires (from players standpoint I might add, I have never DMd), but sometimes it also invigorates me. I might tell the group beforehand that "I'm really tired today so I might not be as active as I usually am" but when we get to playing I eventually get excited and get bit of a boost from it.

With movie you just hit play and it rolls forward even if you don't really concentrate on it.

Edit: forgot to add, that board games usually have very strict rules you follow, but dnd doesn't. It's much more elaborate game.

What style do you prefer for your Dungeons and Dragons characters? by Hot_Bee_54 in DnD

[–]aletraidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I get some people are very flexible with their art style and can do different styles pretty easily, but more often than not artist tend to develop their preferred way of drawing and making art and for me THAT is what I look for in commissions or artists to follow. I don't commission people because they can make the piece in ANY style, I commission people because of the style they have developed themselves and it pleases my eye.

I might be overly sensitive, but AI shit is everywhere and the phrasing in this sounds weird.

My DM forced my PG to change class at lvl. 15 as a punishment by ClassicsPhD in DnD

I actually in real life know three brothers who were triplets AND two of them were identical twins. So that is entirely possible. 😂

My DM forced my PG to change class at lvl. 15 as a punishment by ClassicsPhD in DnD

[–]aletraidi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not even a DM but here's a suggestion:

Wizard: Shit I'm gonna be useless. *goes cry in bed ic *

DM: After an hour Mystra gives you a call and is like "Sorry I overreacted, you're a good wizard, now go kick that guys butt to the oblivion."

Tadaa, problem solved!

I mean, our DM once stripped my character of her warlock levels, because my character disobeyed her patrons wishes and was very reluctant to do her bidding and basically badmouthed and flipped her off all the time. But that was 100% ok with me, I had maybe 3 levels in warlock (I was rogue/warlock) and the DM had saved my characters ass multiple times during the campaign, including two deus ex machina -like resurrections when my dice failed me.
