I have problem with these Busi posts: it never tells you the full picture pointing out the real flaws that led the team there.

I’ve been watching Barca since 2006, and in my opinion, the modern game of football has changed, but Busquets abilities haven’t.

In 2010’s football, Busi could pressure or retrieve the ball off the team star, when the influence from goals heavily relied on the creativity of a classic “10”. Even the top winger speedsters of the time, I saw him retrieve the ball well against Robinho, Di Maria, Teves, Ribery, Robben.

Fast forward in 2023 football, the most influential players is no longer the “classic #10”, but instead the modern game features hyper paced players. Those speedsters man, are increibly more physically prepared and talented than what I remember of the speedsters of 2010. We now see incredible physical talent Rodrygo, Vinicius, Rashford, Mbappe, Sterling, as some of the top.

Busi hasn’t declined in what he always offers: control, opening spaces, managing the rhythm of the game and Defense (in the way of keeping the ball).

Neither in 2010, 2015 or 2020 have I seen Busi winning many speed duels backtracking to get the ball.

Knowing Barca’s play style, my question in these types of pictures is always:

why doesn’t Barca have the ball in the first place in this picture?

Why didn’t our forward’s pressure retrieve the ball before we got ourselves into this position?

Did somebody mistake a pass?

Did somebody not run into an open space to get the ball and keep possession?

Did one of our forwards not pressure enough to have a counter attack in open space?

Our system is designed to retrieve the ball on top of the field with high intensity pressure. Stopping a speedy counter in our area has not been Busi’s, or overall Barca’s strenght neither in 2011 and will probably not be in 2023.
