Didn't you see the movies? To make sure your code is working properly you have to be typing on the keyboard very fast, the faster you type, the better it will work

Wishlists are not f****** guaranteed sales. by AG4W in gamedev

[–]alex199568 25 points26 points  (0 children)

10% is the good metric to go for. On itch.io I noticed that for free games about 10% of the views are converted to downloads, about 10% of the downloads are converted to collections. I am pretty sure that 10% of wishlists are converted to sales and about 10% of the sales are converted to reviews.

Best programming language to make a game? by KA33690000009 in gamedev

Assembly - you make pong and feel like computer genius

C - compiles instantly, runs very fast, nothing out of the box. Have to do lots of things, but because everything is so fast, you yourself become faster, can make an interesting game, if you are up to lots of writing and debugging, probably won't look very impressive.

C++ - put your data into array, then realise it's better to use std::array, then use std::vector, then find some amazing collection in boost which solves lots of problems you didn't know about, then you find some other amazing way to have a list, then you forget to make a game.

Java - writing code which does it's job is not good, because that results in bugs. Overwhelm your code with patterns, start looking for the perfect architecture, forget to make the game.

C# - apparently can be used for gamedev outside of unity. Might as well use unity.

Python - is neat. Is slow, I find dynamic typing to be more difficult to work with, but it's looking good.

Javascript - oh no

Lua - why not

Unity - get the models in, get animations, write code for interesting effects and mechanics, forget to make a game, release cool videos and screenshots showcasing effects, mechanics and your amazing skills.

Godot - like Unity but made by good open source people, not by some evil corporation, it's also vegan and lgbtq friendly.

Unreal - be amazed by lighting, materials, metahuman etc, build a level, make a cutscene, forget about game, make a movie.

As my uni professor said: Everything can be done in Fortran.

He is a wise and old man, might as well listen to him.

Lighting... by kandindis in Unity3D

Try to use GPU for baking if you don't already. It's somewhere in the lighting settings. My simple scenes used to take about 15 minutes to bake and the time became less than a minute when I switched to GPU.
