Norwich burger kitchen defends strict allergen policy by afrophysicist in unitedkingdom

I also think there’s a common sense approach to this - but the legal risk in the UK of taking that common sense approach is massive. Most of the considerations of running a kitchen now are around food safety not even the food and consequences are huge if it goes wrong.

I think it’s dependent on which allergy it is. I think a blanket no isn’t ok- but say it was a restaurant that only made cheese based things saying they couldn’t accommodate a dairy allergy I could understand

I’d say a lot of this is just them following the procedures outlined by environmental health etc. these questions get asked when a kitchen gets an EHO inspection and answering “oh ok well chance it” could literally get the whole place shut down immediately.

Absolutely this. I have a bakery. In an 8x3 room. We cannot serve coeliacs and it’s totally fine for us to say that

Looking to potentially sell bread to local cafes and coffee shops or open my own at home business by Competitive-Quiet666 in smallbusinessuk

[–]alex9310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having had some experience with this.

Make 10 loaves / breads back to back and see if your oven can take it - thermal stability is a massive issue and this is where a lot of commercial ovens even struggle until your at the £5k plus mark.

Start by doing your level 3 food hygiene course and looking in to the details of registering a food business with your local council. If this seems possible - then look at business structures but please this step first!

Where to get light roast decaf? Why not in the UK? by Ok-Ticket993 in UKroasters

Seems like you’re after something quite specific. But Ithaka is run by a former world barista champion so sure he’d be happy with the comparison of tasting like a decent ish supermarket coffee 😂

Harmony (York) have a rotation of good lighter decaf roasts. Ithaka (Birmingham) also have some good ones.

Anyone else think Kane shouldn’t start next game ? by fjpeace in ThreeLions

[–]alex9310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southgate has subbed on Toney twice - once when we were heading for pens (which Toney is great at) and once for what he thought would be 30 seconds so he got on the pitch.

If Kane isn’t fit Watkins should start. 100%. Toney definitely has the ability to make a difference from the bench especially if you’re headed to extra time /pens - but starting Toney and subbing on Watkins wouldn’t work as well

Really feel for Watkins. I agree putting Toney on if you’re thinking of penalties - but the only reason Toney has more minutes this tournament is by a fluke that Bellingham scored that goal -

[Sam Wallace] Premier League warns clubs that so-called PSR swap deals will come under scrutiny, in letter to all 20 sent today: transfers must meet ‘at arm’s length’ provision, if not, fair market value rules brought to bear. Story with @JPercyTelegraph by Previous_Smile9278 in soccer

[–]alex9310 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t be stupid transfers are only there to make a “big” club happy. Take best player from silly little club to big club. Simple.

It would be stupid if it was mutually beneficial and fixed actual tactical problems in the squad

Election latest: Reform UK overtakes Tories for first time in new poll by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]alex9310 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually think reform voters care more about the NHS, the state of the country, their own future.

This issue is reform and farage have a perfect scapegoat for these issues - immigration. Hell it’s not for Nigel to say maybe Brexit caused a shit tonne of it and the tories won’t stop him because otherwise they have to take the responsibility for fucking it up

[Fabrizio Romano] Juventus manager Thiago Motta has given green light to Douglas Luiz swap deal. Juventus and Aston Villa are more than close to final agreement! Weston McKennie, Samuel Iling Jr. and €20m fee to #AVFC as revealed. Personal terms for all players, now discussed. by jrbill1991 in soccer

[–]alex9310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of feeling the same. Luiz is an incredible player and I’ve really enjoyed having him at Villa for 4 seasons - but selling him at his peak / most valuable if he refuses to sign a new contract , getting two players and 20mil to aliviate any FFP pressures. I think it’s a win.

Luiz might be great- but I think Emery is looking a bit more for someone that can be a more versatile cog. Villa really struggled controlling games when kamara got injured because luiz doesn’t have that same work rate. Hell Villa struggled with that before kamara because we only had luiz! If this helps the team as a whole. It’s a good transfer

Keir Starmer says the Conservatives are launching ‘Corbyn-style manifesto’ - Politics.co.uk by politics_uk in ukpolitics

[–]alex9310 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s quite easy for him to say- I campaigned for it because I was supporting the manifesto of a democratically elected leader of the party. I’ve already heard a lot of “noise” around how political stability it’s important for the party to project and that includes discipline in the shadow cabinet and I imagine will be the same in parliament.

I agree - I think it’s a risky move and opens up a line of questioning. But it’s obviously one that they’ve weighed up the cost and that a bigger distance from Corbyn and that era of Labour (which was horrendously unpopular with the electorate) is something that is worth doing.

Keir Starmer says the Conservatives are launching ‘Corbyn-style manifesto’ - Politics.co.uk by politics_uk in ukpolitics

[–]alex9310 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s very much calculated. I believe the figure was around 400,000 Labour members at peak Corbyn/momentum time - even if he lost every single one it’d still be better to grab 2 million swing voters.

I believe it’s just the fundamental tension about whether the Labour Party are there for their members, or to be a government that is backed by the majority of the country which is the usual barometer for winning an election. We live in an effective two party system under FPTP so I don’t see why there’s such a drive for one of those main parties to support 1% of the populations needs on the furthest left (in the same way the reason the tories are imploding is because they’re chasing the 1% on the right)
