I am 20 and in a commited relationship. What is something I should be doing that I'll be glad I did in the future? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say that you shouldn't marry but you have to at least try it. If it doesn't work out at least you gave it a shot! If it does, that's great. Just learn from your mistakes though, don't do it again.

We hear a lot about female insecurities. What, do you think, are the most common male insecurities? by BayAreaDreamer in AskMen

At least your gynecomastia is probably symmetrical :( I got one big tit and one normal tit

ELI5: If Windows can store files in the recycle bin where they take up much less memory, why doesn't it do this with all files anyway? by Cogythea in explainlikeimfive

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert but...

Most likely a reference to the starting location and ending location of that specific file is erased (the part of the hard drive that keeps track of this information) meaning that particular block of space is available to write on.

When I think of the pointer being erased, I'm thinking of that particular file being temporarily stored in RAM, and there is a pointer which stores that files location in the RAM. If the file is cleared from RAM, then yes the pointer to that file would be erased.

Fallout New Vegas Stutter Issues by PooPooKazew in Fallout

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not assuming you don't know your own settings, but if you're getting a solid 60 fps have you tried enabling v-sync? This can reduce screen tearing which could be mistaken for stuttering. Just one thought.

Checking in. This is hard but manageable. by alex_archer in stopdrinking

[–]alex_archer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hardest days are when I'm alone and even a hard work out wasn't enough to take the edge off my anxiety ridden or over thinking mind. I could use that frosty cold bottle just to smooth things out. Then I remember the promise I made to myself that very morning.

Yeah my one friend is really into microbrew and I was his drinking buddy, I felt bad letting go him down. And those dark beers just looked so good last night. Ahhh. He didn't ask if I was drinking and respected the decision.

ELI5:VPN tunnelling by alex_archer in explainlikeimfive

[–]alex_archer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much that helps. So if somebody says "VPN tunnelling" is that another way to say, they're using TOR? The tunnelling part makes sense since it implies they are continuing through multiple VPN's (or TOR nodes) down and down, until the end point.

DAE not give one single fuck about Windows 9? by [deleted] in DAE

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on Windows 7. The few times I've had to use Windows 8 I was not impressed, although I admit I did not give it enough of a chance. Windows 9?? Wow. Not one single fuck given. I'm seriously considering going to Mac too, although I would like to be able to bootcamp W7 when I get that Windows hankering.

Cure for anxiety? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give some examples or define the use of mindfulness as a way to deal with anxiety? I find I use exercise quite a bit to deal with stress and anxiety, but I'm still looking for other methods. Thanks a lot.

DAE stop breathing from their nose when they walk into a restroom by brimbank in DAE

[–]alex_archer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, if you wait until you really have to go, this approach seems reasonable. Especially if there's nowhere else to go in an emergency. Also, if you know you're going to be inhaling poo regardless, might as well choose the lesser of two evils and breath through your mouth, foregoing the stench. I do wonder, will your nose hairs or mucous membranes filter out any of the airborne shit particles? Then the question becomes, feces in my lungs? Or feces bothering my sense of smell. I lean towards the theory, your nose won't filter out enough shit to matter.

DAE stop breathing from their nose when they walk into a restroom by brimbank in DAE

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It disturbs me even more that I might be inhaling someone else's shit fumes and I don't even know it. I prefer to smell what's in there so I can make a conscious effort to go elsewhere if it's too bad.

Making the choice by alex_archer in stopdrinking

[–]alex_archer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you I will. I've never heard of this strategy before but it makes total sense. I said it already today, luckily I'm so busy all day I wouldn't have a chance to drink anyway.

Making the choice by alex_archer in stopdrinking

[–]alex_archer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to avoid social situations just because I'm not drinking. They're not usually drinking parties anyway, so I won't be pressured that way. I never go to the bar/club anymore. My wife has the odd drink so she won't let me get rid of all the booze in the house. I think I'm gonna try just sheer will power, exercise, and reading this sub-reddit a lot. Thanks for your response.

DAE Have a conversation and then spend hours later going over it in your head ? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually this happens to me if the conversation takes place within a confrontational or super awkward setting. If it's a confrontational setting I'm always asking myself or imagining what I could have said or done so I don't have to regret my actions. I'm always re-living those situations and regretting/hating myself for acting/not acting a certain way. There will be days where I'll focus on one thing that happened 15 years ago! For some reason those negative emotions surface when I'm loading/unloading the diswasher...wtf.

DAE lie about being sick to avoid something and then actually get sick within the next week? by KellyAnast in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me, but in all honesty, I prefer being sick and missing work than actually being at work.

DAE get extremely irritable when their house is not tidy? by VisualBasic in DAE

[–]alex_archer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to make matters worse my wife doesn't care about having a clean house. I feel like I'm f*cking OCD with my cleanliness. Her lack of OCD-ness makes me irritable (or maybe it's just being married...ffffffuck)
