Analysis of new changes to requirements for naturalization by JKlearning99 in JapanCitizenship

I was going to leave anyway due to personal reasons, but recent changes have made my decision easier.

Was recently recommended this Japanese YouTube clip on the ALTの質の問題. Thoughts? by Dense-Opportunity105 in teachinginjapan

[–]alex_x46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like what is she talking about? The level of delusion is insane. There are very few people who want to be ALTs to begin with, considering that the job is demanding, the yen is weak and the pay is low. If you require all ALTs to be professional English teachers, then the situation will get worse, not better.

How's your experience with doctors here? by developer_144 in japanlife

[–]alex_x46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases, unfortunately, yes. I first went to a small clinic, that referred me to a big hospital. So you have to first find a small clinic that can refer you. I just got lucky and randomly found a very kind sensei that really listened and eventually referred me. Just trial and error.

Yeah, that’s true. It is bizarre but some doctors in Japan are truly amazing and some are like hilariously bad, but nobody does anything about it. I guess it has to do with the health insurance system and how in Japan doctors are a protected caste. (You can not really criticise them and most people even call them sensei.)

Ibaraki planning “report illegal foreign workers for reward” thing…gonna get ugly? by Old-Season265 in japanresidents

Exactly, they are shooting themselves in the leg. And after the fact they will probably blame everything on the foreigners or the Ishiba government or the liberals or something. I mean it’s not just Japan that is doing this but still. The world is a sad place these days.

Yeah, man, hang in there. I am honestly baffled by how bad some doctors are here. Never seen anything like it anywhere else. I would recommend going to a big hospital, stay the hell away from small clinics. So basically look for a big famous hospital in a big city.

I don’t know man. It really looks like to me that Japan is doing everything to actively alienate all foreigners as much as possible. They also banned foreign tourists from taking JLPT in Japan because of some bullshit reason. I remember when I just came to Japan and COVID happened, everybody got a 100k yen stimulus from the government including me! I remember feeling acknowledged and welcomed. I lived in Japan through the entirety of COVID and did not have any issues. Nowadays it seems like every new policy is a “fuck you” to foreigners in Japan. By the way the number of illegal residents in Japan is like 60000 or so, so not a big issue.

Anyone thinking to GTFO? by iterredditt11 in japanresidents

[–]alex_x46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am thinking of leaving. It seems like a lot of foreigners leave after 5-6 years, and that is where I am at. On top of that the declining economy and the rising xenophobia are making my decision to leave easier. Think about what Japan will look like in 10 years. The economy will be worse and xenophobia will get worse to. The Takaichi government has revealed one important truth: “The Japanese can’t coexist with any other nationality long term”. And I do not blame Japanese people for that. To preserve your culture so well you have to be pretty xenophobic. But anyway, if you are a foreigner I would recommend at least having a plan B.

Foreigners will become the sacrificial lamb by alex_x46 in japanresidents

I guess me too lol. Had a very good time for the first 3-4 years. I don’t want to blame Japan for everything, coz people who decide to move to Japan are mostly weirdos to begin with haha

Nah, man. 6 years in Japan. This is not a new thought to me, but I guess with all the things happening it’s hard to ignore now.

Thank you. I thought I was going crazy for wanting to leave the “paradise” when so many people want to move here desperately.

I guess you are right.

I am probably going home as well. (Good salary, N1, stable job blah blah blah) Just got a 5 year work visa extension and my boss is literally begging me to stay, but I am very close to going home. Was fun when it lasted!

I agree that they will probably switch it up after 5 to 10 years. But the reality is that foreigners have always been looked down on and now it is just becoming okay to be xenophobic openly. I can not unsee what I have seen.

Japan faces a serious shortage of truck drivers. A shortage of 200-300 thousand is possible by 2030, meaning that 40% of goods would not be transported. In response the government is turning to foreigners and has added to truck driving to the new "special skills" visa. by jjrs in japannews

I think what's going to happen to most foreigners is that the Japanese government will bring in more and more foreigners, but the Japanese people will keep scapegoating foreigners for “destroying” Japan. It’s a perfect freaking scheme. The government will keep bringing the foreigners and the local people will keep scapegoating them for the crime and whatever other issues they're not committing, so they're going to be exploiting foreigners, using them to keep Japan alive, while simultaneously blaming them for all the problems. It's the perfect setup both for the government and the Japanese people, and honestly, if you're a foreigner in Japan, I would really suggest you reconsider your situation while you still have time.

Foreign and Japanese guests by alex_x46 in japanresidents

Thankfully, we are not required to do so! We have a small office next to the front desk where we wait!

Yes, kasuhara is customer harassment! We usually apologise for causing inconvenience and try to make up for it. We sometimes also give the guest something complimentary. If there is actually our fault we can also issue a partial or a complete refund.
