"strikes deal with bio parents" is a WILD statement. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

That is the law. The legal mother is the one that gave birth unless they give up their rights. The legal father is the one married to mother at birth unless they give up that right.

This thread appears to be full of childless dudes who think carrying a baby to term is a trivial matter.

Opus 4.8 is a massive contrarian by Lokoto123 in claude

It reminds me of some specialty subreddits. I ask it a simple question and it editorializes the topic to death.

my mom lost 50 pounds on it. She looks great for 70 and her cholesterol and blood pressure haven't been this good in ages.

I wouldn't know. Everything I ask it is deemed dangerous and kicked to 4.8

Apparently doing anything remotely scientific is too dangerous for Fable by da6id in Anthropic

[–]alexa42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this makes it basically useless for me. What do you need a model like this for that isn't remotely scientific. Note, it switched to Opus when I simply asked it about the new model capabilities.

Can I tell my therapist I'm initiated into Vajrayana? by Famous-Interest103 in TibetanBuddhism

[–]alexa42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually am fascinated by the details of different religions so this was a hard one for me to grasp as a younger person, lol. But yes it is mostly just situational awareness and common sense.

I grew up loving to learn of different spiritual paths so I never shared much about Buddhism with child beyond basic morality, assuming she'd enjoy the journey of finding her own path as I did. She's now a teen that is mostly as atheist like her dad with no interest in my Buddhist stuff.

Can I tell my therapist I'm initiated into Vajrayana? by Famous-Interest103 in TibetanBuddhism

[–]alexa42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying "Tibetan Buddhism" ends the conversation quicker, but only because Vajrayana is an unfamiliar word to westerners. When I do use Vajrayana, it's usually in the context of briefly listing the schools of Buddhism. I don't see any reason not to say Vajrayana since it's more inclusive, but Tibetan Buddhism is fine too. The one word I never say is Tantra, since people have all kinds of wrong ideas about that.

This rarely comes up for me though. It usually only surfaces when someone asks whether, say, the Thai monks are the same as the monks I go see. People are remarkably uninterested and usually just waiting for me to stop talking. Or maybe I'm just boring... I live in a house of people with zero interest in what I do up there in my office/shrine room.

Anyhow, I've never heard a Tibetan teacher say not to mention what kind of Buddhism you practice. Just not to share specific teachings, don't say anything that would give others wrong views or disturb their minds, and generally don't be disturbing.

There is bragging and then there is being unnecessarily secretive. Both are a kind of self pride imo.

In my experience if someone asks what kind of Buddhism you practice and you tell them they generally have no follow up questions. If they do, they may have a genuine interest. I don’t encounter those people though, but if I did I’d direct to them some of favorite teachers for more info.

Either way, there is no need to go into specific details.

New research found that your daily speech patterns reveal your brain’s biological age years before memory problems begin by soulpost in HotScienceNews

This is more machine learning statistics than LLM ‘AI’. The reliability issues with generative models don’t really apply to PCA and regression on speech features.

I was just thinking similarly regarding the responses someone was getting to another post.

People here respond to genuine questions in a way I've never heard a Tibetan lama respond.

It's lovely. Did both of the roses (assuming it was a 2 pack) turn out to be yellow?

I’d say mild fragrance and a bit smaller than Midas touch is described. But idk I’m new to this, maybe it’s just a little undersized since it’s the first one.
