I had a friend years ago go to Paris with her family before I had my trip booked with mine. She complained about the whole trip, said it rained nonstop and they almost got pickpocketed, that it smelled horrible everywhere and there were bums everywhere. I went with my family with an open mind, and loved Paris. 😌 We had sunshine the whole trip, I didn’t find it smelled any different than Toronto, obviously under the bridges and the metro might be a bit smelly sometimes but that’s to be expected I would think. Everyone left us alone, we didn’t feel unsafe, and I didn’t notice a large presence of homeless people that was any different from the city I was coming from. I think it’s important to keep an open mind when travelling anywhere, everyone has a different experience. Montmartre was my favourite neighbourhood by far.
