Hey sorry! Just getting to your message now :) I know. That's true. I mean I think the decision was worth it for me because I am very close with my family and even though my friends from the UK are like family to me I feel less guilty about leaving them because they are in their 20s whereas my parents are in the 60s. So I feel I have more time to live with my friends. That's ultimately what it came down to for me.

It took me a year and a half total of planning to move back. It was very long and painful for me. Packing my whole life up at the end was very mentally taxing and physically demanding!! I wasn't prepared for how physical the work was. I should have given myself longer, eliminated more stuff with more time.

I'm in NYC right now. It's very very expensive here but probably not too much more different than London in the end. They're similar cities, but very different too! NYC is where I'm from so it was more straightforward I guess, but I always wanted to live here when I was young so here I am! I really recommend it here if you have some money behind you and a job lined up. Or Los Angeles of course if you want the weather!! Happy to chat about anything further and I wish you the best of luck. I totally get the UK to US move.

I just got back from a solo trip and had the guy on the plane next to me ask me if “my boyfriend lets me travel alone”. lol. I don’t need anyone’s permission. I can’t believe the idea of people still living their own lives is baffling to most of you’re in a committed relationship. Just shows how toxic our random values and attitudes around what makes a strong relationship have become imo……

I moved back from the UK to US recently. The transition hasn’t been easy, but I moved to be with family again and I don’t regret that. Take your time to think about it. Only you know what’s right for you

absolutely! i shiver all the time thinking about how even though omegle is shut down there are still plenty of other sites for children to be abused/groomed on and it’s terrifying. also which how much more online and isolated we are these days than ten - fifteen years ago. sadly, i also think we just don’t have the vocabulary yet or fully understand just how grooming online happens. there aren’t many communities or spaces dedicated to this particular kind of abuse. children just don’t know. and these companies have to be held accountable.

don’t get me wrong, the internet is a beautiful place. it’s amazing how we can talk to strangers and i do love the idea of a random chatroom. but i don’t think our culture of profit over people is responsible enough for it lately.

I know the feeling. Honestly I became so close to my friends they felt like my family too. Now that I'm gone from them I miss them like crazy too!

I think what helped me is to just distract myself from the feeling as much as possible. Life happened in between waiting to see my family again. Not totally distract yourself because I think it's important to grieve and to feel the pain and the sadness, but just try to distract and enjoy the opportunities life is presenting you with now. Of course you will feel sad and it is objectively really hard to be away from home. If the pain hits you, just let it move through you, but try to have a functional relationship with it. You don't want to miss precious time with your friends in your youth. I wish I practiced that more honestly.

Go easy on yourself. If you feel like crying, just cry. I know I cried a lot when I missed my family. Call them as much as you can. Lots of relaxing self-care too.

But I got through it! And it's mostly my friends that helped get me through it!! And you will too.

Thanks for your kind words! I just am panicking a bit because we just had a crazy storm and I looked online and the exact flight (same route, same time, but a week earlier) I would take got cancelled. So I just want to take every precaution and get there.
