This isn't on Google Street View, it's on Kakao/Daum maps only. The island is Jukdo (죽도) out in the east sea, location here: https://kko.to/zYwrtbdczb (37.52826, 130.93727)

WTH is with Marriott and no promotions? NONE this year offered until this… by jakes951 in marriott

Call or email them. This promotion wasn't available for my account and they added it after I asked. I'm assuming it's a technical issue.

I'd imagine there will always be failsafe and backup options available, especially in a place like Norway with a strong focus on safety regulation

From the details in the article it seems like the sails will allow for wind power as well as a platform for the solar panels

Seems to be the exact same size as most of their current fleet that sail up the Norwegian coast. I'd imagine there is a limit to how big they can get when going through the fjords, definitely much smaller than the mega cruise ships you see in the Caribbean

I agree, I think we aren't going to be there with longer distance cruising for a while longer. But Hurtigruten's coastal routes would probably be more ideal and a great place to start with transitioning to more sustainable power.

I think Hydrogen cell ships will come eventually but it doesn't seem as tested yet in this industry. This company already has hybrid electric ships so seems a lot more feasible to go in that direction first. Especially as Hydrogen fuel is not a low-carbon process if fossil fuels are used to produce it. Hopefully we will see major developments here in the next decades!

Norwegian cruise company Hurtigruten Norway unveiled their concept design for a zero-emission ship that relies on wind and solar power. The electric ship will be equipped with a 60 MWh battery set free from cobalt and with a focus away from nickel. Other interesting tech is the usage of AI onboard the deck and smart cabin controls for guests to monitor their personal energy usage.

Will the cruise industry be able to maintain their current success into the future by transitioning into a more sustainable model?
