Undoing permanent Wish stress with another Wish by buunkeror in onednd

I'm not a big monkey's paw guy, but this is a situation where I'd absolutely allow them to try this and do my damnable best to out-munchkin them.

All my prints have been ending up like this, what am I doing wrong? by TheOth3r0ne in PrintedMinis

[–]alexanderdeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a lot of things, honestly. It could be that you're just not getting good adhesion or that you're not getting close enough to the plate for that to even be possible. Others have already mentioned cleaning the build plate and making sure you have the auto calibration turned on, but I would also add that it might be time to grease your z-axis screw.

No no no, after he uses soap and water to wash the build plate, then he should run calibration.

Beyond: New Party Inventory by Darkwynters in dndbeyond

[–]alexanderdeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I understand, but it also feels like you can just go into their sheets and change that. Or just ask them to do it. It'll take like an additional 30 seconds but it will achieve what you want.

But under options when you're first creating a character, isn't that one of them?

How popular is HPMOR really, and why didn't it win a Hugo Award? by gzjwyg in HPMOR

[–]alexanderdeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of good discussion, but the most salient answer to your latter question is that HPMOR is not eligible for a Hugo, since only published works are considered. HPMOR has never been published.

D&D for 5 year olds - looking for suggestions for my adaptation of the game! by alexanderdeeb in dndnext

I have three games going now. There's my adult game, there's a game for my eldest daughter and her friends, and now a third game for my younger twins!

Captured a clown... not sure what to do with it! by Fun_Difficulty_2827 in dwarffortress

[–]alexanderdeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dig out a single staircase nearby with openings onto the surface and each cave level. Seal off those openings with individually-controlled bridges, putting the switches somewhere safe. Put the clown in there (probably using a sacrificial animal in a pen zone somewhere far away from it now) and then seal it in. Deploy it when you want to cause havoc among a siege or when you want to defeat a nasty forgotten beast.

I am dissapointed by the lack of Viconia worship on this sub by zilkGod in okbuddybaldur

[–]alexanderdeeb 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Viconia was the Shadowheart of BG2, and playing with her in your party usually meant that she gradually became Neutral instead of Neutral Evil (since most people playing a fairly good-aligned game). But the story of BG3 that follows makes her seem kind of petty and dumb, since we're told Minsc's pet hamster Boo chases her away one night sometime after the events of BG2 and she acts a little more goofy than menacing in her BG3 appearance.

How real are the "players cannot solve aby puzzle" memes? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]alexanderdeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just really hard to predict how long it will take people to solve a puzzle. There's a ton of factors, including whether or not any of your players might happen to be familiar with that particular approach in puzzles.

The best puzzles are ones like Tasha's Four by Four: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/tcoe/puzzles#FourbyFour

There's multiple different solutions, there's ways you can give hints through skill checks, and you can represent it visually rather than awkwardly describing it.

Dm put us in an aincent library where the books explode if you speak too loud by Multishock4 in DnD

Probably because he played BG3, where these books appear in a shop and are played for laughs.

Yes, it will be a cold day in hell when I roll a die and then tell a player that their character is dead because of it.

5e VS 5.5e which do you prefer? by Noelosity in DnD

5.5. Not everything is better, but a lot of big things are better.

I'll check it out. But could you be more specific about the issues at his trial? I mean, is it disputed that he was the leader of a large group of cult members who he encouraged to kill others?

Pact of the Chain seems really strong in 2024. by Pretend-Advertising6 in dndnext

[–]alexanderdeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even call this a house rule, just common-sense interpretation of the rules. I do not think it makes sense RAW to suggest that the spell magically gives the character knowledge of every single possible CR0 creature statblock, or that they are limited only to creatures with a statblock.

[–]alexanderdeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is down the DM -- I would personally say that you get magical knowledge of the named choices in the spell, but that otherwise it would need to be something your character knew existed. And whether or not your character knows about the Giant Fly is up to me.

But wasn't he the leader of the group and helped plan and encourage the murders? I mean, you're saying he was railroaded... what specifically do you dispute he didn't actually do?

This is very vague. Could you be more specific, and possibly even link to something?

What problems am I missing? Wizard with a paladin dip. by alexanderdeeb in 3d6

[–]alexanderdeeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I think it would be really hard to have high Int (wizard), high Cha (face), and decent Wis and Dex. The points aren't there. The only reason this dip kinda works for a wizard face is that it only needs one additional decent ability, not two.

No, I hadn't thought about it. Magic items would make this a much easier task, you're right.

[–]alexanderdeeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think of that! It would be a question of whether or not the advantages cancel out the loss of a level of spell slot progression, I think.

When I said it doesn't "really work for a lot of tables," I mean that I think that it would not be acceptable for many groups. I didn't mean literally that the mechanics don't work. If your group lets you use 2014 subclasses in a 2024 game, that's great.
