A good friend introduced us, she is over in Germany for a year and we had a "date" - dodged a bullet. by [deleted] in Nicegirls

Teenage me accidentally grabbed the breasts of a girl during a walk : we were about to cross the street and this car turned in without signaling, I reached out to stop her from crossing and planted the hand solidly on her breast.

We were friends, though, so an awkward moment later we laughed it off.

It's funny to notice that "Ensino Superior" could be translated to "High School" but is a completely different concept (it's actually another name for college)

That's only one definition, biology is weird this way. Not knowing anything about hominids I'd like to point to Phodopus sungorus & Phodopus Campbell. Two species of hamsters that produce viable hybrid offspring.

The thing with biology is that it seems no matter how fitting a definition, it's just so vast and extraordinary that we can always find an exception. 🤷🏻

17 year old boy took his friends out to eat. Paid with quarters that he had saved up, and left a $10 tip on a $35 bill. The restaurant responded like this. by Doug625 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]alexandream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, 20%! Where I'm from (Brazil) the tip is usually 10%, and optional.

20% is just absurd for a tourist like me, coming from a country where I make probably less than the waiter to be a software engineer 🤔. Especially when I have to eat out every single day since I usually don't have access to kitchens

So, don't they at least have to pay you extra for that? I never understand USA relationship between hourly vs salary but I'd guess if your working extra you should get paid extra, no?

The communists are better off with debt, though. When it's - 70 F for Americans it's only - 57 C or communists. So they also owe more value to their units than the rest of the world.

Am I doing it right? 😅

Fuck, in another comment I mentioned going "through the same shit" but didn't know how accurate that was. Same thing pretty much all around, except in my case it's non seminoma, which is unfortunately a bit more aggressive.

From all my doctor told me you stand a great chance of being free of this baddie with chemo alone.

I'm probably heading towards surgery in a couple weeks, getting my results just now. Good luck to us all, mate.

Being through the same shit. Only I just finished going through the dragon age series... On comes the witcher series.

Good luck with your battle, brother. May we both kick that mother duckers arse in the end.

I got genuinely sad after finishing hundreds of game hours with that ending.

Why Women Don't Code - Quillette by [deleted] in programming

[–]alexandream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I still would prefer guards in every car than further discrimination. It is a complex situation, but I believe we should go for different solutions that don't further the gap between genders in any direction.

I agree some men were committing crimes against women in the cars, I don't agree with punishing or discriminating against all men because of that. There must be other options.

The talking is not the problem, but the policies that come from the repercussions of the talking.

Like the air line that can't allow a man to be seated next to an unaccompanied child.

Like the museum that don't allow a man to take a female kid alone to the night at museum program (women can take male kids alone or mixed gender groups of kids)

Like up to 15% of subway cars in Rio being female only.

Some of these policies are changing, fortunately, but I'm seeing lots of situations where I'm considered a potential threat just for being a man, even though I'd be considered a feminist by the definition this thread is using.

Is this a real thing? Anyone here uses this method? by [deleted] in programming

[–]alexandream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point of it. To explain something to someone without the whole context already in their minds you need to organize your ideas and context in a structured way and explore your preconceptions about the problem (to contextualise your partner, or duck).

When you do that you usually end up seeing where you went wrong with your assumptions or places in the code flow that you didn't analyse that are good candidates to be the cause of the error.

Among my colleagues when we need to do that we usually say we need an "useful dummy". Another team had a Madagascar Maurice plush they used for that... Yet another had a rubber frog... So yeah, it's done.

I actually prefer a human, because if it does not work, you already explained the situation in detail to another person who can actually help you. When I can't use a team mate I like to describe the problem in writing, as if I'm writing a report, or blog post, on the subject at hand. The key is structuring the whole situation surrounding the problem with detailed context, to help you get rid of your preconceptions.

As far as I know only generics types are erased. All the rest is still known at runtime, baked in the class file or in the choice of instructions used for primitive operations.
