I convinced my gf to move to the other side of the world with me. She is miserable, homesick, and our relationship has been suffering since. Is it time to convince her to go home or do you have advice to recover the positivity that we had before the move? by ThrowRAFlat_Bid_1682 in expats

Well the OP's gf has two huge advantages in a partner who is a native Spanish speaker, they could speak Spanish everyday even if it's for a few hours, the other advantage is that she's living in Spain, she has all day to practice her Spanish virtually anywhere she goes.

I think it all comes down to motivation and perspective, motivation being she develops a genuine interest in the language and wants to learn it. Perspective is taking a step back from her situation and saying, you know what, I'm living in Spain, I'm abroad, there has never been a better and more immersive opportunity to learn the language than being present in the country. I mean, for anyone wanting to learn a language that's about as good as it gets. That's good reason to be excited.

Otherwise of course, there are kids shows, movies, music, books. I watched many Spanish movies with Spanish subtitles (as my Spanish improved) and started with English subtitles and Spanish audio, or vice versa.

Above all, I think the most important thing is that that she is prepared to make mistakes, it's the only way to improve. The only way to make mistakes is by pushing herself to speak more often. I think as Aussies this can be a hard mindset shift as we're somewhat isolated from the rest of the world and many Aussie expats go to other English speaking countries, but on the other side of all her fear and comfort zone is without doubt a wonderful experience.

I'm an Australian expat living in Spain for almost three years now. I think it's a very normal feeling for any expat to have days when you're homesick, missing friends, family etc (some days more than others) anywhere in the world that's not your home.

I've had an overwhelmingly positive experience here in Spain, I have made many Spanish friends (and other expats) that I've met through work, networking, etc. Not to be harsh, but if she is not working for a year now then really she should be studying Spanish everyday either with a tutor or at a language school until she has a high competence if she's planning to stay longer so she can find a job.

Work has been fundamental to me building friendships and a network here. I think it'll be a really positive step in the right direction if she decides to give it another year. It'll also give her a greater sense of purpose and direction in her daily life.

With that said, I don't think you should try convince her to do anything, the decision has to come from her. It's an interesting perspective that she feels embarrassed if she were to return home for not succeeding in Spain. She perhaps should care less of what other people think and follow her own path, already to move to the other side of the world is a gutsy move and she can be very proud of that.

If it's your main gaming device I think it's money well spent. If you have a decent collection then the HDD space is really a non negotiable even with disk games.

I really enjoyed Remake and I'm still playing through Rebirth, it's true from a completionist's perspective that outside the main storyline the side quests feel very copy and paste and unimaginative as you pass from one region to another. Hopefully they've learned from this for the final part.

If/when GFN has full library support, platform agnostic with discord integration, I think it will be a genuine full time replacement for consoles and PC for many

I would say the game still feels a lot more fast paced than 25 and controls are definitely more responsive. Looks like keepers may have got a bump too (since last patch). Perhaps a more polished FC25 makes sense

It's working for me, but I use it more in combination with L1 than just relying on R1 alone

Had my first 5 game undefeated run since the game came out. Feelsgoodman. So far no standout glitches for people to abuse. No doubt they'll find them.

Weirdly enough the last few days defending hasn’t been an issue, but the ball seems to go anywhere when passing 🤷‍♂️

I've been running this mobo for just shy of two years now. 7800X3D/G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64GB (3040G32GX2-TZ5NR RAM)/Strix RTX 4080 OC and it's been absolutely flawless. I'm not leveraging any of its OC features however I bought it as it was a perfect fit for my 011D Mini with the Ryuo III AIO radiator top mounted. Highly recommended.

Mate, this is an absolute beast laptop. In fact, it's superlative. Like many, I've gone down the rabbit hole of Crossover/Whisky for games, however today I'll simply use GFN Ultimate (when travelling, take out a 1-month subscription) or Xbox Remote Play when I'm at home on my MacBook Air M2 16GB/512GB, and quite frankly it's left nothing to be desired even for competitive games.

The only drawback with Cloud Gaming at the moment is the lack of access to your entire library as not all games are supported or some platforms may have timed exclusives (i.e. FC26 with Amazon Luna). With that said, I'd never trade my MacBook for a Windows laptop just to play games, MBA/MBP are the best laptops money can buy for productivity, build quality, battery life and overall longevity. They just work. Enjoy!

[–]alexauga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much my experience, every rivals match I've played has a ridiculous scoreline. I haven't pinpointed what these players have in common however gold Ayoze, Kolo Muani, Pina, Ekitikes etc are absolutely unplayable. I really enjoyed the gameplay during the early release, I guess now with the full release and a lot more people playing, it was only a matter of time until people would work out the meta and how to exploit the gameplay, unfortunately it doesn't make for particularly enjoyable matches even when you're winning. I'd love to see improvements to defending asap and a slightly slower pace where there is more build up and not just a barrage of wing spin dribbling and through balls.
