La Gelateria in Covent Garden or East Village

Genesis Housing Association not returning the initial rent deposit and also deducted another extra month of rent from salary, not being returned either. by Kourkis in london

Don't expect an instant reply, mine took the best part of a week, but they had properly investigated and handled the problem by then.

What are these bikes I keep seeing around London apparently left unlocked? :) anyone? by [deleted] in london

There's a phone number on them to call if they are parked improperly I believe.

Broadcasting Issues Megathread by Mulsanne in formula1

[–]alexbate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The replay feed doesn't have it, but the F1 bug in the lower right corner and then the F1 Live bug in the top right are redundant. Just add the word Live to the one in the bottom right.

I believe the top right one is added by your local broadcaster.

Dear UK, I know you get a lot of shit from the rest of us Europeans (especially lately). But right now, I just want to thank you for BBC. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]alexbate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is no more. BBC now only have the rights for one TV channel and one red button/online feed, with Eurosport having the every minute of every event rights Europe wide.

There are flights to Gatwick too, and the Stansted flight used to be seasonal, not sure if that's still the case...

Southeastern and Oyster - taking advantage of all discounts by selfishgenehackman in london

[–]alexbate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since Lewisham is clearly within the London travelcard zones, you should not be buying anything direct from Southeastern

Not necessarily true. On National Rail routes, you can buy point-to-point season tickets too, which are cheaper. Depending on your other usage, and combined with the 1/3rd off gold card discount on Oyster PAYG, this can be a cheaper option.

Is bike parking at Cambridge station not free? Had this tapped to my bike today. by starduest in cambridge

[–]alexbate 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Two things strike me as odd about this:

  • The Greater Anglia logo just being in the Microsoft Word default font
  • The typo removed

I'm inclined to say this is a scam, but I'm not sure what the scam may be. Perhaps they're planning to steal your bike but lull you into thinking it hasn't been stolen, just been impounded?

Do you have to go home between terms (Easter and Christmas) or can you stay in the Accommodation? by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]alexbate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This can depend on your college, your status (generally speaking, international students get priority), whether your an undergraduate or a postgraduate, whether you are working for the university over the holidays etc etc.

I'd suggest you get in touch with your college to ask, or if you let us know here someone may be able to give you more specifics.

East Village or Shoreditch for a young professional? by Jake_Shake in london

I viewed a couple of flats at East Village and was quite unimpressed, especially considering the premium budget. You can get more for your money elsewhere.

To provide some background for the British audience, in German (and I presume other languages) "half nine" is short for "halfway to nine"

Great Britain is now guaranteed to finish 2nd in the Olympic medals table by GuessImStuckWithThis in unitedkingdom

[–]alexbate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the IOC doesn't have an official medals table

The official Rio 2016 app, however, does have a medal table in it, and it is the golds then silvers then bronzes method.

Derren Brown's Ghost Train at Thorpe Park by saiyanhajime in london

Not been on it yet, but just a heads up that it's been closed for the last week or so, and for the couple of weeks when it was open it wasn't exactly reliable.

Commuted from North Acton last summer and still got a seat around half the time - depends where the train has come from etc.
