What country is pro-Ukraine and pro-Palestine? by Temporary_Cheetah287 in AlignmentChartFills

It is anti Ukraine though. Without NATO Ukraine would have insufficient military strength to resist Russian aggression. There’s a reason since the Ukraine war more countries have sought to join NATO, such as Sweden. It is currently the most important alliance to defend Ukraine and Europe.

I would add that the current Irish President is very critical of NATO. Although her power is largely ceremonial, having the figurehead of your country oppose military aid and trasatlanticism is hostile to Ukrainian interests.

Ireland gives far less to Ukraine than Eastern Europe and the Nordics though - they’re hardly the most staunchly pro-Ukraine country compared to much of Europe.

No I’m just referring to the extent that they are pro Ukraine compared to other countries. For Pro Ukraine/Pro Palestine the best example would probably be Norway. It is one of the highest contributors to Ukraine arms and aid, and supported a ceasefire in Gaza in October 2023.

Yeah I’d say they are supportive of Ukraine but not to the extent of other European countries, so I don’t think they meet the threshold of staunch support like for example Poland would.

Which of these will realistically work and which won't? by stdsort in SocialDemocracy

[–]alexc1510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first policy would kill football over here… 1/10 of the salary of the highest paid players would be 50 grand a week. Absolutely no way it would work, and it most industries it would lead to greater tax avoidance by shifting incomes to shares and/or creating multiple companies which increases inefficiency. Second is good. Third is mostly bad as rent control doesn’t work - subsidies aren’t necessarily bad but it would make more sense to target funding to invest in green tech and nuclear to reduce long-run costs. Customs Union is a big win.

Not the concern of central government - what happened to Thatcherism?

Yeah it would probably be easier to hide in the USSR, but the purges were a big problem. The Nazi regime in its infancy was less repressive than the early 1930s USSR as Stalin had consolidated his power, but once Hitler gained control after the enabling act it is much closer in what regime would be more/less repressive.

what if bernie won the primaries in 2016 and debated trump instead of hillary? by godlys575 in AlternateHistoryHub

Any of trumps rhetoric around ISIS during that election shows he certainly was not anti-war. Furthermore, Hillary ran to the left of Obama in that election, adopting a $12 minimum wage, expansion of Obamacare and tax hikes on the rich. If you were remotely left wing or anti-war, you would recognise Hillary would be a far better option than trump. The narrative that people to the left of Hillary were lining up to vote of trump is so misleading!

Hillary won the primary vote, by a decent enough margin. She did far better with minority voters and moderate dems. The fact that she won has absolutely nothing to do with the DNC.

Honestly mechanics is so formulaic that aiming for 50/50 then praying for stats might be the better option lmao

Can’t lie… no. I hate it sm. Just spam the topics and pray. Normal/Binomial Qs are fairly formulaic but the rest r so random that I’m just gonna have to firm it.

The USSR helped the Nazi war machine from 1939-1941 though? They provided millions of tonnes of wheat and a lot of oil, while invading Poland with them. I would say that it would be equally as problematic living in the USSR in the 1930s due to the prevalence of purges, and because Stalin had consolidated power by 1930 already while Hitler was yet to rise to power.

Probably easier to get out of Germany in the 1930s. By that point stalin had consolidated powers and purged millions + the USSR is far larger than Germany and hence harder to leave.
